ADAM POV
"Hey son." Eunice called as she saw Adam walk out of his room angrily.
"Please grandma not right now." He tried to walk past her but she stopped him by holding his hand.
"What Is wrong? Tell me son." She looked at him with her eyes pleading for her grandson to open up to her. "You never hide things from me, so what is wrong?"
"It is nothing grandma, I just want to be left alone." He insisted but she didn't budge.
"I won't leave you not when you are upset. Is it Catherine? Did you have a fight with her?" She inquired trying to understand why her grandson is so upset.
"Alright, fine I will tell you. But will you let me have a sit at least?"
"Okay. Come to my room, I don't want your mother to see you in this state she won't be happy. She is already finally starting to loosen up and be happy after countless efforts of trying. I don't want it to go to waste." She held his hand and took him to her room before closing the door behind them.
"Now sit here, I will get you a glass of water." Without waiting for his response she poured him a glass of water from the jug on the bedside table. "Here, take this. No, no," she motioned with her finger for him to stop. "No argument, just take this and drink it. It will make you feel better."
Without arguing, Adam collected the glass of water from his grandmother and drank it in a rush.
With every passing minute his inside was boiling with anger, at the moment, Adam wished he was home at least he would be able to let it all out on his punching bag.
"Now breathe in and tell me slowly what happened." She took her seat beside Adam on her bed as she looked at him waiting for his response.
Eunice saw the way his muscles were flexing in anger and she knew whatever got him this way really affected him a lot.
"Tell me grandma, why are women so difficult?" He asks, with a sad expression on his face. "One minute you think you understand them and the next, they do something so different you start wondering where it is coming from." He said in one breath.
"Hey son please slow down so you don't choke on your words or worse bite your tongue."
"I won't grandma, I just need you to answer me first." He insisted.
"Sighing," she took his hand in his. "You see, women aren't as complicated as men paint them to be.."
"No grandma, that is not true."
"Listen son and don't interrupt me please." She warned, looking angrily at him.
Nodding his head, Adam motioned for his grandmother to go on.
"I know at times women might be stubborn and unyielding but we aren't as stubborn as you paint us to be. All we need is a little understanding and you will be able to figure us out." She assured him with a smile on her face.
"Why do I find it hard to believe grandma?" He frowned at her.
"Tell me son, when was the last time you tried understanding your women?"
"Women?" He raised his brow questioningly at her.
All he was thinking about and has been thinking about is Catherine and no one else. So why is his grandmother using the word women? He doesn't seem to understand.
"Yes you heard me, women. Your playboy life isn't as undisclosed from the public as you think. So I know you have a lot of women and have been with so many." She rolled her eyes at him for being so shameless. "But that is not the point I am driving at."
"Okay please tell me." He said almost smiling at his grandmother for bringing up his past conquest.
"So tell me son, when was the last time you tried to understand one of them, or were they just playing things to you?"
"Yes, because I never cared about them. No one matters except Catherine." He said without thinking. He just blurted it out and at that moment he knew it was the truth. "So can you stop bringing up the past and let us focus on the present, my present." He muttered softly as his mind drifted back to Catherine. A smile played on his lips.
Eunice smiled as she saw the smile on Adam's face. Finally her grandson is starting to remember his relationship with the one woman that matters to him, it made her very happy.
"Grandma, can you tell me why you brought the past into this?" He wanted to know where his grandmother was actually heading to. He didn't plan to give up so easily.
"Okay son. Listen to me, if you look at it closely you will see they are related. You never for once try to understand them you only assume. And I am sure it is what resulted from your misunderstanding with Catherine."
"No grandma you are wrong there, I don't agree." He stood up from the bed abruptly. "She is the one who always assumes, and never tries to understand anything. You know what grandma, I agree with you to some extent but I think you are wrong this time around."
"How?" She inquired softly not trying to aggravate him any further than he is.
"You said we men don't understand women but that is not true. We do understand them at least to our ability. But the problem here is, women are the ones who don't understand us and they end up assuming wrongly."
"Really, is that what you think?" She chuckled. "My boy listen to me, I am your grandmother and I know what is best for you. My many years of experience isn't for nothing or do you doubt that?"
"Of course not, you are wise grandma and I don't doubt that."
"Then listen to me. Whatever the problem is, try to understand her and know where she is coming from. When you do, you will see that the problem isn't as big as you think."
"Alright grandma I will do that." He promised before bending towards her. He gently placed a soft kiss on her cheek. "I have to go now."
Walking down the passageway, her words kept ringing in his head as he tried to understand Catherine and see the angle she is coming from in order to understand why she acted the way she did.
Then he remembered his first visit at her place when Catherine father made it clear to him that they believed in sex after marriage then everything clicked.
Catherine must have felt uncomfortable sharing the same bed with him considering the family she comes from.
"But does this mean she is a virgin?" He asks himself.
Adam finds this hard to believe though because of the way she behaved with him on the couch in her sitting room. Irrespective of whether she is a virgin or not, he hoped to clear the confusion or misconception she has about him.
