Ariana didn't realize that was the connection between her office and his office. She took a step back in shock. It was like a horrible reminder that she was working with Carl, who was actually Calhoun Lawson in reality.
"Oh my God!" She exclaimed out loud.
For a moment when she was chatting with Zion and Sarah, she had forgotten that her boss was actually going to be the man she had given her virginity to. The same man that drove her insides crazy.
The phone on her desk started ringing and she jumped out of her trance. She hadn't even realized there was a phone there until now. The land line was the same color as the oak desk in front of her. She hurried to it and picked up the call.
"Hello..." She said hesitantly. Was she supposed to introduce herself?
"I know I am irresistible but I really need those files baby." His voice came through the phone and her throat went dry.
She hung up immediately and went to the pile Sarah had given her that morning. How did the time move so fast?
She went to the third one in the bunch and found the name 'Walter' written boldly on it. She took it out and grabbed a person to start summarizing it. But as she sat in the table to go through the file, she found a small paper attached neatly to the inner corner. She took out the paper and read the content.
"The summary is at the back page, enjoy your day..." Ariana was shocked. Sarah had already done the job for her. She quickly turned to the back page and took out a two page summary of the file.
Without thinking twice, she took the summary and went back to the door. She knocked and Calhoun pulled it open almost immediately. She handed out the pages to him and he closed the door once again.
Ariana heaved a sigh of relief and told herself to thank Sarah for saving her ass. She would have to prove to Calhoun that she wasn't a waste to his company. She was a good assistant and she would earn her salary. She returned to her desk and started working on the rest of the files. There were quite a number of them, but she was determined to do her work and impress Calhoun.
Ariana was buried deep into the papers that she didn't hear the adjoining door open. Calhoun stepped into her office to check how she was doing and invite her out for lunch, since it was lunch time but he was surprised to see her so immersed into her work. When he employed her, he knew she was a dedicated and intelligent girl but he had only the intention of making her fall in love with him, now she was the one making him fall in love all over again.
"Aren't you hungry?" He asked her.
"Huh?" She squeaked dropping her pencil at the sound of his voice. "You are here... Sir?" She added.
Calhoun smirked. "I love the sound of that in your mouth but, I'd prefer you keep calling me Carl."
Ariana held her chair for support as she started feeling hot all over despite the air condition in the office. How could one man have this much effect on her. "Huh, okay." She replied.
Calhoun adjusted the buttons of his shirt and placed his hands behind him. "It's lunch time, let's go eat something."
Ariana would have loved to go. In fact, her brain was already screaming yes but she couldn't.
"Carl, I can't. I am sorry..." She said dropping her eyes to the files she had spread all over the table.
Calhoun frowned at that reply. He wasn't someone who took no for an answer. It was either a 'yes' or nothing.
"Why?" He growled.
Ariana raised her eyes to him and smiled softly. "You said you wanted me, right?" She asked.
Calhoun raised his brown, wondering where she was going with the question but said nothing. He waited for her to speak.
"You have to do this my way. I don't want people thinking I came here to seduce you... Or something." Her cheeks got flushed again and she couldn't look into his eyes anymore. When news had broke out back in highschool that the school's golden boy was now her boyfriend, she had received a lot of backlashes from people. And she didn't want it to repeat itself. She wasn't ready for all that trauma anymore, especially since she didn't know Calhoun well enough.
"You don't want people thinking you came here to seduce me?" Calhoun repeated her words as he moved closer to the desk separating them. "But Ariana, I am already seduced."
Ariana nodded her head weakly. If he came any closer, she didn't know what her heart would do. She was far away and it was racing. What would happen if he came closer?
"I don't care what people say. I am Calhoun Lawson, people can't hurt me. Please let me get you something to eat. You are starting to look pale," he insisted.
Ariana's grip on the chair was starting to get too strong. she couldn't gibe in to him like this. She had to show him that she wasn't after trouble for herself. She just wanted a simple life and that was all.
"I will eat but not outside these walls... Please," she told him. If he couldn't just let her be then they had to find a compromise.
Calhoun flashed her his devilish grin and took out his phone. This was the first time he was changing his decision in his entire life. Not even his grandfather could change his mind like this but Ariana had managed to do it. He was falling too deep for this beautiful woman in front of him and he knew it. The feeling was too enjoyable to deny.
He ordered for their lunch via his phone and pulled a chair for himself.
Ariana didn't understand what had just happened. She raised her brows and watched him cautiously. What was he up to now?
"Sit down, the food will be here soon."
"You are not going for your lunch anymore?" She asked in a small voice.
Calhoun placed his hands on her desk and smiled. "I am having it right here, with you."
