Kelvin came home a bit early because he had a lot of questions to ask Diego. He was shocked to see that he wasn't home yet. He took that as an opportunity to shower and prepare dinner. His father joined him in the kitchen looking at him like he could sense something was wrong. "Did anything happen at work today?" He asked.
"Uh?" Kelvin pretended not to hear what his father said.
"Why isn't Diego with you?" Owen changed the question. "Shouldn't you guys be home together?"
"He had other matters to attend to." Kelvin concentrated on the spinach he was cutting.
His father was about to ask another question when the door opened revealing Diego with a smile on his face. Unknown to Diego his uncle and cousin were watching him, he danced, turned, and threw his hands up in victory. Kelvin had to stop what he was doing to look at the drama his cousin was acting. His uncle on the other hand just stood still, watching him with folded arms.
"This better be good," Owen said. Diego turned around. He was making funny dance steps and he froze when he saw his uncle and Kelvin staring at him. He quickly composed himself.
"Hi, uncle." He walked slowly towards them.
"Want to know why you are this excited tonight."
Kelvin folded his arms staring at him. "Yeah me too," he said.
Diego played with the back of his hair shyly. "Uncle, it's nothing important," answered Diego with a sheepish smile.
"Are you shy?" asked his uncle.
Diego laughed nervously before taking a step away from there. "I am going to go to my room and shower..." he turns to look at KElvin who went back to his cooking. "...I am starving as well." He rubbed his stomach.
"Ok. Kelvin is a really good cook, I am sure you will love his food."
Diego nodded as he ran up the stairs to his room.
"I have never seen him this happy." kelvin's father said as Kelvin gaze up at the stairs. He gave a short sigh. "Did anything happen at work that I should know about?"
"He found himself a model and I think that's why he is happy."
"Is the model his girlfriend?"
Kelvin was trying so hard to concentrate on his cooking but the way his father keeps asking him these questions made him more curious than he already was. He dropped the knife on the table, startling his father. In order not to seem or sound rude, Kelvin put a smile on his face and said, "I will go upstairs and ask him." He removed the apron and went into Diego's room.
Diego was about to put on his singlet when Kelvin opened the door.
"Geez Kev! I know this is your house but you need to learn how to knock. I could have been naked."
"Well, you are not. I will cut right to the chase, how do you know Nora?"
"What's about this girl that you and ..." he swallowed back his words.
"Me and...?"
Diego sat on his bed. "Your friend had a similar reaction when he saw Nora today as they knew and you had the same reaction today too. If there's anyone that needs to ask any question, it should be me."
Kelvin held out his hand in the air gesturing for him to stop and he asked, "Which friend?"
"The one you went to meet at the cafe."
"Michael?" Kelvin asked to be sure.
Diego nodded. "At a point, I thought they were dating but when I saw how pissed off Nora was, I couldn't tell if my predictions were right or wrong."
"How did you guys get to meet?"
:She was in a difficult situation when I saw her. A man was trying to harass her saying some words that..."
"Words like?"
Diego paused. "Can you tell me why you are so interested in this girl? Is she someone you like?"
Kelvin shook his head. "I had intentions of helping her too." Diego looked at him in shock.
"What?" he asked.
Kelvin nodded. "I was so surprised when I saw that you did it first."
"Does that mean you knew about the shit she is in?" Kelvin nodded. "What else do I need to know?"
"She was dating Michael but Michael broke up with her."
"Because of the scandal." Diego cuts in and Kelvin nodded in affirmation. "She doesn't look like that kind of person who would be involved in such activities."
"That's because she is not that kind of person."
"How do you know all this?" Diego asked.
"I was there when the whole thing happened and she thinks I am the one responsible."
"The reason why you decided to work here..."
"is because of her. After seeing what she was going through, I just knew I had to do something."
"Does Michael knows?"
"That I work?" Diego nodded. Kelvin shook his head. "Not yet and I don't intend on telling him either."
"Wouldn't this cause a breach in your friendship...I heard how close you guys are from uncle. He also told me he takes Michael as his son. I think you should tell him before he finds out himself."
"There is no need. Our friendship has already been breached." The moment he did that to her.
'I think he still likes her."
"what? It's not possible. Michael doesn't go back to his vomit. It's either he wants her back so he could lay with her or break her heart again but if it's about love? Michael ain't that kind of person."
"I heard he broke up with Kayla."
"He must have had his way with her already and if peradventure he is coming back to Nora, then it can only mean one thing."
"What?"
"He is going to try his possible best to have his way with her. She is the only girl who turned him down and the only girl he has never had sex with so believe me, he will want to add her to his list of people he fuc**d."
"I can't let him do that to her. She has been through a lot."
"Neither will I."
"Thanks for opening up to me, now I know what it is I need to do."
"Let's go down for dinner." They went down to have their dinner.
Kelvin's mind was clouded with thoughts as to if he is willing to stake his friendship to protect Nora. Is she worth fighting for?
