Lola’s pov,
Lola woke up the next morning feeling happy and rosy. She stretched her body and yawned loudly before getting up from the bed. Noah’s place was already empty because he started training early. She would go take a look later because she actually enjoyed seeing him work with kids. She never thought she would say this but maybe getting pregnant wasn’t so bad.
She looked at the clock and saw she had some time left to take a walk before she had to go to a Luna meeting. One of her duties as a Luna was visiting all the couples that got mated this year. It was honestly so boring because they all treated her super respectfully and basically all said the same things. She wished there were more She-Wolves like Fenna in the pack that dared to speak their minds, but they had a long way to go before that would happen.
She put on a warm coat and went outside, it was cold, but the sky was clear. Lola actually loved walking when the air was so cold it felt like it cleared her lungs with every breath. She was walking on the edge of the forest when she heard voices and stopped to listen. She recognized Laela her voice.
“What did you want to tell me Finn?” Laela asked.
A dark voice responded, “I just want to confess that you are the most beautiful She-Wolf I know and that I can’t stop thinking about you. My mind is only with you. In fact, I am sure that you will be my mate when we turn 21.”
Lola smiled thinking she accidentally stumbled upon a conversation of new love, but the tone of the conversation quickly changed.
Laela’s voice sounded nervous when she said, “I am flattered Finn, but I don’t feel the same way.”
Finn’s voice quickly changed from sweet to aggressive, “It doesn’t matter what you think Laela, don’t you get it by now? Men take what they want doesn’t matter if you are the Alpha’s sister because you are just a woman. I want you and I will make sure you will be mine whether you like it or not. I can just find you at the mate hunt next year and rape you. With my scent all over you, nobody will want you so you will have no other choice than accepting.”
Laela shouted, “let go of me Finn!”
Lola heard enough and was now fuming with rage; she stormed towards the voices and found a tall guy with blond hair and a beard holding Laela against a tree.
“Let go of her right now or I will personally cut off your dick,” Lola growled.
The guy turned around and slowly let Laela escape his grasp when he saw who she was, but his eyes didn’t show any sign of respect. Laela ran toward her, and Lola wrapped her arms around her. She could feel Laela’s heart racing.
“Have you not followed the new course on how to treat a woman properly?” Lola snarled.
Finn just chuckled and walked away, “I have but we all know that course is only there because Alpha Grey wants to please you. Things will go back to normal when he gets bored of you.”
Lola’s blood started boiling and she wanted to go after him and hit him to mush but Laela held her arm and looked at her beggingly, “Please just stay with me. He isn’t worth it.”
Lola gritted her teeth and stroked Laela her hair trying to calm her down. She then brought her to Fenna and told her to take care of her until she got back. She needed to talk to Noah and tell him what just happened. She had been too blinded by her feelings and small victories to notice that no one took her seriously. It was time to show the whole pack that she meant business!
She found Noah eating some lunch on his own at the lake. He immediately stood up and looked worried when he noticed the angry look on her face.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Lola told him how she found Laela being harassed in the forest and Noah’s face turned red from anger.
“Who was it? I will rip him to pieces!”
Lola took his arm and said, “It doesn’t matter who it was Noah. Don’t you understand? They all think you are changing things just because you want to please me. None of them take it seriously. We have to do something big. We have to cancel the mate hunt forever.”
Noah looked at her shocked, “That is way too drastic Lola, it’s an ancient sacred tradition. If we do that, we will have an uprising on our hands. The whole pack will be divided. That is exactly what we don’t want.”
“You don’t know that! We are talking about your little sister here and dozen other innocent young women. Do you really want her to be raped or claimed by some asshole like Dan that will treat her like shit? Break her until there is nothing left?” Lola shouted.
Noah balled his fists and looked deeply conflicted, “Of course, I don’t want that! But how do you want to convince all the packs that it is better to change such an old and sacred tradition?”
“We just have to find something to tell them that will motivate them all to believe it is for the greater good. That we will all benefit from it,” she took Noah’s hands and looked deep into his eyes, “We can figure something out Noah. I know we can. Together.”
Noah had a hint of a smile on his face when he answered, “Okay let’s work on it together. We should bring the news at the moon festival in a few weeks when all the packs are together.”
Lola turned around and started running.
Noah shouted, “Where are you going?”
“I have a killer speech to write!” Lola shouted back.
