"I’ll pick you up after work."
Lu Jinghan’s soft voice permeated Han Xi’s eardrums, sending a tingling sensation coursing through her body as if she were electrified.
Han Xi nodded subconsciously but didn’t dare to meet his gaze.
Back at the office, Lu Jinghan was in an unexpectedly good mood. Feng Yi came in holding a file and immediately noticed someone’s lips marked with a bite.
Feng Yi placed the document on the desk, pulled out a chair, sat down with legs crossed, and lit a cigarette. White smoke wafted from his lips: "Yo, did you ’execute’ Doctor Han on the spot?!"
Lu Jinghan’s fingers gently brushed the lips that still carried Han Xi’s scent, as if reminiscing the long kiss they just shared.
Feng Yi slightly parted his chiseled lips and exhaled smoke, looking at Lu Jinghan and shaking his head: "Doctor Han isn’t like the women Old Master Lu used to push around you. You’re serious about her, right?"
Holding a pack of cigarettes, Lu Jinghan’s distinct, slender fingers tapped rhythmically. His voice was exceptionally earnest: "The position of Mrs. Lu belongs to her and no one else."
"Oh, by the way, how’s the investigation I asked you to do?"
"It’s tough to investigate. If the car accident three years ago really involved Lu Qing An, I believe the evidence should’ve been mostly destroyed by that old fox."
Lu Jinghan got up, put a cigarette in his mouth, slightly tilted his head to light it, took a deep drag, and exhaled the smoke. He walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, pressing the cigarette-bearing fingers against the bright glass. His deep eyes gazed into the distance: "Investigate slowly. If he did it, there will be traceable clues."
Feng Yi nodded, putting out the cigarette in the ashtray: "Remember to check the documents on the desk, I’m leaving first."
In the evening, Lu Jinghan pulled his car into the hospital’s underground parking and then pulled out his phone to send a message to Han Xi: [Shall I wait for you in the parking lot or go upstairs to meet you?]
Within seconds, Han Xi replied: [Wait for me in the parking lot, I’ll be off work soon.]
Lu Jinghan stared at the message with a smile for a while, then took a cigarette from the car’s storage compartment, lit it, and took a deep drag before resting his left hand on the lowered car window, his eyes intently fixed on the direction of the elevator.
After a dozen minutes, Han Xi emerged from the elevator. She had only taken a couple of steps when a man in a suit stopped her: "Doctor Han, do you remember me?"
Han Xi lifted her head and carefully studied the man in front of her. It seemed he was one of her former patients, but she wasn’t quite sure: "Are you... my patient?"
The man’s deep eyes smiled: "It seems Doctor Han remembers me."
Han Xi nodded: "What can I do for you?"
The man opened a nearby car and retrieved a large bouquet of roses from the passenger seat, speaking earnestly: "Doctor Han, I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?"
Han Xi stood there awkwardly, frowning: "Sir, you..."
Before Han Xi could finish rejecting him, her body was suddenly pulled into a warm embrace. When she looked up, she found Lu Jinghan’s deep and exquisite eyes gazing into hers.
"Doctor Han, how can you be flirting with others when you already have a boyfriend, hmm?" His voice was questioning but brimmed with undeniable intimacy.
"I’m not," Han Xi defended herself.
Lu Jinghan lowered his eyes to look at the woman in his arms, lifting a hand to tweak her nose: "You better not be, or you’ll see how I deal with you."
