Samantha's POV
I screamed as another arrow whizzed past my ear, Damien quickly grabbed my hand, "run!!!"
"What's going on? Why are they shooting at us and who are they?"
"Just do as I say and nothing will happen to you" that wasn't a satisfying answer but this wasn't the time to insist on an answer, so I nodded and started running alongside him with my hand tightly clasped in his, "this way!" He shouted, leading me to a very narrowed and steepled road, "there's a cave up ahead" he was now walking behind me on the narrowed road, his presence somehow calmed my racing heart, he has a way of making someone feel safe even in the midst of danger, "hurry up" he said with urgency and I quickened my steps, I could already see the cave and I made a dash towards it but I slipped and twisted my ankle, I screamed in pain and would have fallen but he caught me just as I was about to reach the ground, "are you okay" his concerned gaze stared at me and I nodded and started to walk towards the cave, pain shot up my legs, damn, I have managed to sustain a sprain, Damien put his arms around my waist to assist me, he suddenly grew completely still as if listening to something, his eyes roamed around, "what...?" He quickly places a finger on my lips, "shhhh..." The finger on my lip was callous, against my soft lips, what was he listening to? I wasn't hearing anything, just as I opened my mouth to talk, I heard it, a slight creak, and in a motion too fast to explain in words, Damien twisted, reversing our position so that I am now standing at where he was standing just as an arrow appeared and hit his arm, I gasped and gazed around if I could see anyone, "run to the cave, I'll meet you there" I shook my head, fear clouding my heart, he meant to go and face whoever it was alone, I can't leave him alone, what if...I shook my head, not willing to even contemplate the what if, "just go, I'll be fine, I'll meet you there" he gave me a slight push, and tears brimmed in my eyes as I began limping towards the cave.
He came shortly and I gasped at the blood oozing from his arm, there were bruises on his fingers too and some scratches on his face like claws, did he fight with an animal? "you're bleeding, let me see"
"It's not time for that, we have to leave here" he removed the arrow on his skin with a grunt and led the way. We came out from the cave but it was a dead-end to me, my eyes widened as I gazed around, this was that same waterfall from the other day, "jump in" he urged and I drew back, no way was I getting into this large body of water, it was beautiful to admire from up there but not so beautiful to get into, I felt chilled just by the thoughts, despite the cold, I was sweating profusely, "what are you waiting for, dive in, we don't have time" I looked at the large body of water and shook my head, "I.. don't know how to swim"
"Don't worry, I'm here, just follow my lead" before I could refute further, he grabbed me and dived right in, I screamed as the chilled water hit my body and my hand was forcefully wrenched from his, for a moment, my breath ceased, I gasped and wa streamed into my mouth, I tried to scream but only succeeded in gulping down more water, "so, this was how I'm going to die, mom, dad, I'm coming" just when I thought I was ready to go to the other world, a hand grabbed me and in a jiffy, we were out of the water, I heaved, throwing out water and coughing at the same time, I slowly took in where we are, it was the exact spot we were standing before to view the waterfall, "how did we get up here?"
"Forget about all that, are you okay?"
"Should I be okay? In a day I was shot at, sprained my ankle, and was thrown into such large water and you asked me if I'm okay" I stood up and pain shot up my legs, I screamed and fell right back to the ground, favoring my sprained ankle, "let me have a look" he bent down and rotated my foot in a circular motion, "this could hurt a bit" he warned just as he gave my ankle a pull, I screamed, gasping for air at the pain, but after a while, it subsided, "how do you feel now?"
"Who were those people shooting at us and why"
"Why did you come looking for me?"
"I...I...wanted to say sorry" his face creases in a frown, "sorry?"
"Yeah, for whatever happened the other day, I know that you don't want to go into a relationship with me, I'm sorry if I was pushing it" I stared at him, he was observing me with a blank expression and I continued, wanting to say what I have in mind before I'll lose my courage, "I can accept just being a friend though, that is if you want that much from me" he swallowed before snapping "fine" I frowned, what was wrong with him? Was that all he could say? Anyways, I wasn't okay with the "just being friends" but if that's what he wants then I'm good, just so I don't lose him. I forced a smile, "can my friend, now take me home?" He growled as he helped me up from the ground, I walked with him to the road, where we'll flag down a taxi.
Damien's POV
I gritted my teeth as we reached her house, all through the ride, she was just gushing about how happy she was to have a new friend, damn, I don't want to be just a friend to her, I want to be so much more and it irked me to be referred to as her friend. "Thank you, my dear friend, for bringing me home"
"Will you just stop?" He stared at me innocently, "what? Stop what? I was just being thankful and there you are shouting at me"
"I wasn't shouting"
"Then what were you doing?"
"I..."
Whatever I had to say was cut short by her scream, I quickly swivel to the direction of her gaze, ready to take on whatever it was, and heaved a sigh when I saw Ariana, "you have to stop popping up like that you know, I Haven't gotten used to it" Samantha warned, "what's he doing here? Why is he always with you?" She asked as a way of reply, eyeing me wearily, "he's my Friend you know" I rolled my eyes, there she goes again, calling me a friend, "he can't be a friend to you" she snapped and I frowned at her, this new Ariana is always unpredictable, she walked closer to me and stared at me, ", I know your identity and your mission but I won't let you carry out your plans"
"What do you mean?"
"Stop with the act and whatever you're thinking to do with my sister, I won't allow a werewolf, whose friend killed my mother to be with my sister, neither will I allow the killer to go free"
"What are you talking about Ariana" Samantha cuts in before I could think of a reply, what the hell, Eric had gotten into her head real deep and she wasn't ready to listen to anyone, she turned to Sam, "yes Sam, you heard me, this man standing before you is a werewolf" Sam laughed hysterically and dabbed the corner of her eyes, "are you for real? Werewolves are just stories, they don't exist"
"Oh they do Ariana, and he is one, why don't you ask him" Sam turned to me, I gritted my teeth, "am I lying? Deny it if you dare" Ariana said, grabbing my arms as if to push out the answer from me, Sam ran to her and held her hand on my arms, "careful Ariana, he's injured"
"I bet there's no more injury there because he's already healed" I let her hold my arms out to Sam and sure enough, there was no more injury, Sam went pale and her eyes rounded with shock, she stared at me, "you were injured and it was a deep wound, why was it healed in an hour, there's no even scar left, is what she's saying true? Are you a werewolf? Werewolves do not exist, right? So tell me, who the hell are you?" She screamed and I swallowed, leaving my expression blank, I gave her a reply, "you want to know who I am? Alright then, I'm a werewolf".
"What? Is that possible? To think that I've been in love with a werewolf" my heart did a summersault at her words, "what did you just say?" I needed to hear it again, "did you just say, love?"
"Hmmm, I...I mean, you're my friend, right? I love you like a friend, but I was being kept in the dark about your identity"
"You don't expect me going around and telling everyone that I'm a werewolf, do you think that's rational?"
"I wasn't aware that I am just a random person to you" I gritted my teeth, why wasn't she understanding me, she's taking it the wrong way, but before I could open my mouth to retaliate, Ariana vented out, "Sam, a werewolf killed mother, right in front of me, I was right there and couldn't do anything, I would have been killed too if not for a hunter who saved my life, and I have found out who is responsible for that, it's his friend"
"What!!!"
I and Sam screamed at the same time, "you don't know what you're talking about, Dylan didn't kill your mother"
"Of cause, you'll defend him, mark my words, I will avenge her death" with that, she stormed out, I turned to Samantha, "you don't believe that, do you?"
"Werewolves, you're a werewolf, and so is Dylan, why didn't I see it? There's always a strange aura surrounding the two of you" she gasped like she just remembered something shocking, "that night, in the news of people being killed, it was the both of you that killed them" I made no reply because what she was saying was the truth, she pounded in my chest, "you're both murderers, those people were murdered brutally, tell me, how can I now believe you that Dylan didn't kill my mother"
"You have to trust me, you..." She laughed sarcastically, "trust you? Did you just mention trust"
"You said I am your friend, don't you trust your friend?"
Her expression was thoughtful, "I thought I could trust you but right now, I don't know"
"It's still me Sam, I didn't change"
"Oh you did, you changed from human to werewolf" her expression became excited, "can I see the wolf"
"What!!?" I just do not understand her, one moment she was angry and the next she wanted to see my wolf?
"Yeah! You either show it to me right now or you forget about our friendship"
"Are you sure?"
"Of cause"
"Alright" I walked closer to her and let out my wolf.
