THE LYCAN'S DUEL Chapter 23

SELENE I have been writing letters to Lucius for several days now. Now that he was in my care, I was praying and hoping that nothing bad would happen to him. I hope and pray that he is well. Every day when I prayed, all I ever got was the bird flying back without the letter. I assumed he must have seen my messages and might not be able to respond, but then I recalled his friend's rage. I was aware that his friend's employment must be the cause of any issues. I wish I could have done anything to stop his roommate's hatred for him, but I was powerless. Throughout my entire life, I have been afraid, but since Lucius entered my life, things have changed. I was certain that I would always have him, no matter what, but these days I was beginning to have doubts about whether I would ever own him. I believed that getting engaged to my partner and having a fiancé would help me relax, but it didn't. I know it's not going to happen, yet I feel the desire to see him. He replied that he didn't want me to worry about him when I wrote to him about his being sent into the chilly room the last time. Knowing that he still loves me despite our distance from one another makes me feel sentimental. I was sure that our love would help him to live. He informed me that his friend had taken care of him after rescuing him from the freezing chamber. I had no idea what she was up to, so I was perplexed. I was expecting that she would reject him, as she had promised, but I didn't anticipate that her mate would drag him into her pack by force. Sitting on my bed, fear engraved on my face, I was wide awake in my thoughts. I prayed that he would make it through, wherever he was. I knew he was powerful and that it was a marvel that he had survived the frigid room. I was confident that he was resilient enough to face any challenge his partner threw at him. I believed in our love and knew that it would triumph over those who wished for our demise. I was still deep in concentration when I heard my room's door open so forcefully. When I turned to face the individual, it was none other than Sandra, my closest friend. "Are you still here, Selene?" Sandra's voice startled me out of my reverie. I looked at her bewildered, unsure of how to respond or speak. I looked at her, bewilderment evident in my gaze. She angrily clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes. "What in the world is happening?" She sighed hard and shook her head in disgust when I inquired. I looked around, a frightened expression on my face, not understanding who she had directed the horrible face toward. Whatever had turned her into this person would undoubtedly do more to me. I was aware that the information I was going to receive would astound me greatly. "I warned you not to put your trust in Lucius because he is nothing more than a liar," she was saying, but with rage in my eyes, I quickly grabbed her mouth with my hand. "Hun, how do you say something like that?" "Lucius differs from other men outside," I remarked, at which point she rolled her eyes and took my hands away from her lips. "Haven't you heard the rumors that your fiancé has fallen in love with his mate and that they intend to mark and mate soon?" She inquired, and I suddenly felt like I had fog in my head. After everything she had done to him, I was certain he would never fall in love with his mate. I have confidence in him to never be unfaithful to me. "Stop talking like that; it's just rumors about them." He would never want to accept her in the slightest. Someone who has harmed him is unlovable to him. "He is faithful and will always be; he can't fall in love with her because she is nothing but a real devil," I hurriedly responded, finding it difficult to comprehend what she had just said. "He won't ever allow something like this to happen." Though I'm not ready to acknowledge it, I realized that whatever she was saying might be true because his mate didn't reject him, and their mate link might have made that possible. I'm not ready to acknowledge that my fiancé may have developed feelings for him. My thoughts were scattered, and all I could think about was the two of them. As I continued to think about it, an image of them holding hands appeared in my mind. I was aware that I might lose it if I continued to think about it. "I find it unbelievable that you would say this. Do you not realize what he will turn into if he mates with her? Naturally, he will be the alpha, so why would he want to miss out on that fantastic chance because of you? I was aware that you would embrace him without hesitation if you were in his position. We're talking about power here. Do you believe that love can triumph over greed in this situation? Sandra paused dramatically and put her hand on her waist, saying, "That can happen because he is long gone." Because all of my emotions were directed into my auras, the atmosphere in the room isn't very noteworthy. It was difficult for me since I knew that what he had just stated was true. He might see something like that and decide against it. I was aware that I would welcome her if it were me. I was aware that there was little that anyone could do to stop greed. I needed to find out if Sandra was telling the truth, but I felt she was correct, and I was prepared to take action. Since he wouldn't want to be in the middle of the two of us, I knew he would be honest with me about this. Sandra looked at me and then said, "I would advise you to move on with your life." Her smile was sad. "I need to confirm if this is true from him, and then I'll know what to do next," I replied, rolling her eyes. "You don't need to worry about that." Sandra remarked, "I pray something bad won't happen to you after hearing it from him yourself." I glared at her, causing her to avoid her eyes. I was aware that mom only wanted the best for me, but she was unable to rule my life as if it were her own. I grabbed a blank piece of paper and the ink. "Lucius, are all the rumors true?" I wrote to him. How can you treat me like this if it's true? You've made me a lot of promises, but you have since broken them. You have my undying loyalty, but what do you do? You have betrayed me. How could you ever love someone you've loathed your entire life—someone who physically removed you from me? You fell in love with the person who threw you into the frigid room; you fell in love with someone who doesn't care about you. I was aware of this as the reason you hadn't responded to my correspondence. It would be best if you responded to this before I joined the pack and became your friend's murder victim. My cheeks were streaming with tears as I penned the letter. Because all the rumors I've been hearing from Freya's pack are accurate, I knew he had fallen in love with her. When I queried him about the last rumor I had heard, which concerned him being tortured in the cold chamber, he told me the truth. I knew this must also be the case now—that he doesn't want me to know it. I was aware that he wished for me to remain unaware of it. He had overlooked all of this. I knew that everyone would want to express their worry about me, and I would be the joke of the group. I was certain that I would lead the group. I won't have complete freedom of movement in the pack for some time. I was aware that my mobility would be restricted, and I'm not cool with that. I knew that this was previously known to every member of the pack. I was aware that I couldn't evade this. I used the bird to send him a note, and I carefully waited for his response while sitting on the bed. My last statement gave me the impression that he would respond shortly. I approached the bird as soon as I saw it fly in through the window. My legs started to weaken as I read the letter after removing it from its leg. I broke down in tears that I had been holding inside since morning. My head is throbbing so hard right now. My fiance, with whom I had assumed we would grow old together, has now left me for his mate. Initially, it was my mate who rejected me.
