Thea's Point of View
When she turned to face me, it was as if the Megan I am seeing is not the Megan I know. Her eyes were watery, and her skin was pale. I rushed over to her and hugged her. I realized right away that I had done or said something accidentally. She began to weep as soon as I held her. I’m terrified of what she’s doing; I’m not used to her acting this way. I didn’t even ask her as the door burst open and the doctor walked in.
She looked at the two of us, but Megan immediately wiped her eyes. I stood in front of the doctor, who was sitting in his swivel chair now. I took out the medicines in my bag and laid them on his desk. He put on his glasses to see what it was. His eyes widened when he saw it wasn’t the medicine he had given me first.
“Where did you get this from?” He took out his white gloves from his drawer and put them on. He removed the medicines from the plastic container and then opened them.
“My aunt Joana gives it to me to speed up the recovery of my memories. At first, I used to take them but soon my friend found out that it was not the normal medicine that doctors usually prescribe.” I explained to him while looking seriously at those drugs.
He took off his eyeglasses and stared at me. “Well, nothing is wrong with what your friend stated. It is used to care for the elderly. It causes a variety of adverse effects, including sleepiness, disorientation, dizziness, and, of course, memory problems. It won’t have much of an effect on you because you already suffer memory loss; the difficulty is that restoring your memories will be tough.”
“What if I don’t take my meds? What is going to happen?” I was now gripping his desk as I rushed to obtain his response. I want to have my memories back as soon as possible since I know I’ll have a hard time because of Aunt Joana’s unreasonable delay. Also, I need to move quickly or else the company will wind up with Mason.
“An unintended consequence of not drinking is that it evokes memories. Because your memory loss isn’t severe, I gave you that medication. It’s not permanent; medication simply doesn’t appear to activate your brain every time anything familiar is restored or a circumstance that produced a reason for you to recall things.”
Now I understand everything. Maybe what I just felt was a side effect of the medication Aunt Joana gave me. I’m not sure why I was so down when I found out I wasn’t pregnant.
It was as if a stone had been inserted into my chest. I’m sure I didn’t anticipate my stomach to have a life. However, I was simply aware of how it made me feel. Because I’m disappointed.
The doctor talks again as I grip my belly.
“We still need to know whether anything else occurred to you, so we’ll scan you. Please be patient. All we’ll do is set up a room for you.” He was going to walk away when Megan jumped up and stopped him.
“Me as well. I’d want to have a check-up.”
While Megan and I were in the car, it was as if we were not in ourselves. It also took us almost a couple of hours inside the hospital and we both seemed to float. The result of the test didn’t sink into our brains, but if there was anything else, Megan’s face couldn’t be painted.
---Flashback hours ago---
“Me as well. I’d want to have a check-up.”
We sat at the doctor’s office waiting for them to prepare a room for the two of us. My doctor stated that he would not be the one to examine Megan, so Megan left first and proceeded to the first room because she had been called. Soon after, my doctor arrived, asked me to change into a hospital dress, and then placed me in a bed for an MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging. That, too, was long. After I put my clothes back on, I went to the doctor to check the MRI findings since they would be discussed immediately and you will receive a copy in 1-2 days. I leaned up close to the doctor and had a peek around. While he was still staring at the sights on the display. I went over there and couldn’t figure out how to read it. As he talked, I stared at the monitors.
“Well, Mrs. Holden, based on the findings, there were no issues or adverse effects with the medication you’re taking.” The only issue is this." He pointed to a picture, which showed my belly, and there was a small circle there. I examined attentively, but I couldn’t figure out what it meant. “This is your abdomen’s insides. I can’t tell what it is since it’s so little, but see? The picture moves and becomes fuzzy, resembling a lump or anything trapped in your stomach. This is also the stage during which the fetus develops.”
I nodded in agreement, but I instantly turned to face him because of what he had just said. My eyes dilated as I couldn’t believe what the doctor next to me was saying. When I asked him to repeat what he said, he was still staring at the monitor intently.
“Could you just repeat what you said?”
“The stomach is still too tiny, but you are 70% pregnant, therefore I recommend you discontinue your medication.” The drug I’m giving you is very potent, and it might endanger the kid. If you wish to see the results, they will be available in 1-2 days. If you want to be certain, return here in a week so we can take a closer look.” He then exited the room, leaving me speechless. I was left alone to process. When I was ready, I stepped over to the door and opened it.
The entrance to the room where Megan had previously entered was likewise open. You can’t figure out her face because you don’t know if she’s sad, afraid, or wants to weep. When she saw I was standing next to her, she turned to face me. At the very least, I was inept at what I discovered. I turned to face her.
“I am pregnant.”
I was taken aback since we were speaking at the same moment, but instead of laughing, I held my mouth. Thinking about what she said. Did I assume she didn’t have a boyfriend? What caused her to become pregnant? I was about to question her when my phone rang again in my purse. Ray was at it again when I took a look, but this time his message was different.
“Megan, where the fuck are you?!?”
I instantly realized that Megan had previously used my phone. Then it dawned on me why she looked like this and how she reacted when she found out she was pregnant. Wait a minute...
“WHAT?!?!?” DON’T TELL ME IT’S RAYLEIGH'S?"
She swiftly seized my lips in her palm and covered them. I can’t believe it! When did they start meeting in secret?! What I am witnessing now appears to be much hazier than the term hazy!
