Switch in Chapter 39

...Emile pov… I sat in the dimly lit cell, my hands bound tightly behind my back. The ropes cut into my skin, causing a dull ache to spread through my wrists. I could tell it was night time, the sunlight that penetrated the slits in the wall had drawn back and gradually before being replaced with darkness. I couldn't believe that I had stayed here for such a long time. If they wanted to do anything with me why have they wasted so much time. I had been in this place for over 4 days now and what would happen to me was uncertain. I sat on the chair and looked at the door, from time to time they came to look at me through the peephole and I could see the worry etched in their faces. They couldn't be worried that I will escape i thought. Does that mean that something bad has gone wrong and they can't act on me now I thought. As I adjusted in my seat. I was beginning to realize that I was really right that the kidnappers were not looking before ransome. They were hired! As I sat there, alone in the darkness, I couldn't help but think about my family. I missed my mom terribly, and couldn't bear the thought of never seeing her again. Despite our misunderstandings I knew that they must be worried sick, not knowing if I was alive or dead. The door to my cell suddenly creaked open, and a shadowy figure stepped inside. "You're awake," he said, his voice low and menacing. I glared up at him, my heart pounding in my chest. "What do you want?" I demanded, my voice filled with anger and defiance. The man stepped closer, a cruel smile spreading across his face and I could see them although half of his face was covered. I sat in my cell, my stomach growling with hunger. It had been days since I had last been given food, and I was starving. He walked up to me and bent low to be face to face with me. Inshot hard stare. Little angel are you scared? His exposed eyes gave off a taunting glint. The feeling of punching him silly suddenly came over me but I could only furrow my eyebrows and turn my head to the side. "No" I scoffed. I suddenly thought of something. "Why are you grinning?", He asked. I turned to face him and my grin spread across my face watching his confused gaze. "Damn, why are you grinning? " he howled"I could feel the tension, Mr. Kidnapper, " I said. What do you mean he asked. "I can feel the tension amongst you guys, something has gone wrong right? His eyebrows slanted upwards as he looked at me. There is nothing of such he scoffed at. What is giving you this idea he said as he tilted his head and went back to taunting me eyes. Oh I see I said still grinning. What's with the grin? Do you think you can escape or what? He asked, twirling a set of keys in his hand. There is nothing like tension, everything is going as planned, he added accompanied by laughter. It's just that how long do you plan on babysitting me? I said, looking at me beaming at him with a sinister grin. His face darkened and his eyebrows bar he'd up. He punched the chair I was sitting on, I flinched the point of impact was just half an inch from my face. "You are courting death" as made for the exit. I am hungry! Do you want me to die babysitters?! I shouted as he opened the door to step out. I could see him pause and flinch on my words before stepping out. I sat in my cell, feeling the weight of my captivity bearing down on me. My stomach growled with hunger, and I couldn't help but think about how much I missed my family and my freedom. Had I been too harsh in my words and they decided to starve me! Fear gripped me and I patiently waited as my stomach churned and growled. Just as I was at the crest of my hopes , the door to my cell creaked open, and a young man stepped inside. He was holding a tray of food, and the smell of it made my mouth water. He had a friendly smile on his face and he seemed different from the other captors. "Hello there, my name is Henry," he said with a warm smile, "And I'm here to feed you." I stared at him in surprise, not quite sure what to make of this new development. "Hello Henry," I said, my voice filled with skepticism. Henry noticed my reaction and knew he had to make a move to ease the tension. He cracked a joke and I couldn't help but laugh. It felt like a small ray of sunshine in the darkness of my captivity. He set the tray of food down in front of me, and I felt my stomach growl with hunger. "I know you must be confused and scared," he said, his voice low and soothing. "But I assure you, I'm here to make your stay a little more bearable." I looked at him with suspicion, not quite sure what to make of his words. "Why are you being so kind to me?" I asked, my voice filled with mistrust. Henry shrugged, his smile never leaving his face. "I don't agree with what they're doing to you. I believe in treating all people with kindness and respect, no matter the circumstances," he said, his voice filled with conviction. I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Henry. He was the first person who had shown me any kindness since my capture, and it meant a lot to me. We talked for a few minutes more, and he told me a few jokes to ease the tension and make me laugh. It was a small moment of normalcy in the midst of my captivity and it helped me to keep my spirits up. As I ate, the young man began to tell me more about his plan. He had connections on the outside who were willing to help us, and he had been gathering information about the layout of the prison and the routines of the guards. He had even managed to get hold of a map of the prison and a few tools that could help us escape. I listened to him intently, my mind racing with possibilities. For the first time since my capture, I felt like there was a glimmer of hope. But at the same time, I couldn't shake off the feeling of mistrust and caution. I didn't know this young man, and I couldn't be sure if he was truly on my side or if he had some other ulterior motives. I was left alone with my thoughts, trying to process everything that had just happened. I couldn't help but wonder if this was all just a trap, or if the young man was truly sincere in his offer to help me escape. "Here, I brought you something he said as he made for his pockets, a snack," he said, his voice low and cautious as he dropped the bag of potato chips on the tray. "I kind of smuggled it," he giggled. I glared up at him, my heart racing with suspicion. "Why are you doing this?" I demanded, my voice filled with anger and mistrust. The young man hesitated for a moment before responding. "I know you must be confused and scared," he said, his voice low and soothing. "But I assure you, I'm here to help you." I scoffed at his words. "Help me? How can you possibly help me? You're just another one of them," I said, my voice filled with venom. The young man sighed and looked at me with a sad expression. "I understand why you would think that," he said. "But I'm different. I don't agree with the methods of my fellow captors. I think what they're doing is wrong, and I want to help you escape." I stared at him in shock, unable to believe what I was hearing. "Escape? How is that even possible?" I asked, my voice filled with skepticism. The young man leaned in closer, his voice low and urgent. "I have a plan, but we have to be careful. We can't let them suspect anything, even a slight suspicion can ruin everything, those guys are hardened criminals. We have to be patient and wait for the right moment," he said, his eyes locked onto mine. "Do you have any idea why I was kidnapped?"I asked him. "No but I know they were hired," he said and that confirmed my suspicions. I felt a wave of hope wash over me as I listened to his words. This was a light and I had to grab the chance.
