Chapter 57
I couldn't react immediately but fortunately Trevas suddenly appeared next to me and pulled me away.
Trevas' left hand was wrapped around my shoulder and my face was pressed against his chest but I could still see how Hailey struggled to stand up and tried to attack again. Trevas stretched out his right hand in Hailey's direction and before Hailey could stand up straight Trevas released black magic from her hand and Hailey immediately sprang up and writhed in pain.
"Are you ok?" Trevas asked before holding me in both arms. I nodded before turning to Hailey who was now surrounded by royal guards and prevented from wandering again.
“No! Let my daughter go ”shouted prime minister Haviour before running towards his son but he was immediately blocked by the royal guards.
“Do you want them to release your son who tried to kill the representative of another kingdom? Tell me prime minister, do you want another war between Bauxacel and Beifang? ” said the king so that the majority of the people immediately turned their eyes to the prime minister and looked at him badly.
A war between the two kingdoms has caused so much damage that many are not happy with prime minister Haviour.
She knelt down in front of the king while Hailey continued to scream, who had been writhing in pain because of Trevas' black magic that had hit her.
"That's not what I meant Your majesty, as a father, I just want to protect my only daughter"
“So you would rather choose the welfare of your son than the alliance between Bauxacel and Beifang? Am I right Prime minister? ” Trevas said seriously. He looked very serious and looked intently at the prime minister and his son.
“No, your highness. Hailey doesn't mean what she's doing"
“You b*tch! The courage to just hide behind his highness prince trevas and let him protect you! ” Hailey cried even as she writhed in pain and was forcibly calmed by the royal guards.
I suddenly smiled. “What were you saying prime minister Haviour? Miss Hailey accidentally? Based on what she just said, that’s not the case ”
I saw that prime minister Haviour's fist was clenched and he could not answer immediately.
“Do you think she will rise because she is a princess of the first rank? Ha, don’t act all mighty now, remember that you are the son of the general who led the rebels who revolted against this kingdom ”
Everyone fell silent because of what Hailey said and even I suddenly clenched my fist.
"Enough!" breaking the king into silence. "Bring her to the palace chamber and put her under arrest"
"No, please your majesty" Hailey's father begged.
"And you, You're now demoted as a minister of the 3rd rank" the king announced to everyone's surprise.
There are four ranks in being a minister. The highest is the prime minister who is the president of all ministers and the lowest is the minister of the 3rd rank. The distance between those two ranks is so far apart, which is why everyone was so shocked when the king suddenly demoted prime minister Haviour to the 3rd rank.
"But"
"You dare question my decision?" the king asked earnestly so Hailey's father was silent.
The Haviour Family has great power and they have many connections but it is a great sin not to obey the king so minister Haviour did nothing but bow down and join the royal guards who were carrying his son.
"You are a disgrace to our family," he said to his daughter Hailey who was still trying to get out of the grip of the royal guards.
The celebration became quieter when the father and son disappeared but the tension did not go away because Hailey reminded everyone about the betrayal of the Knoxx family. A lot of people turn in my direction so I can't eat properly.
"I'll just breathe" I said to Trevas and Lina.
Trevas held my arm as I stood up. "Its dangerous here"
"Its ok, I can do it myself"
“Let me go with you-”
"No, I want to be alone" I said so Trevas sighed. "I'll just wait"
He looked at me worriedly before slowly releasing me. "Alright"
I walked to one of the doors to the garden connected to the palace hall. I leaned against the door as soon as I got out and relaxed.
Trevas probably thought I was being ignored by people's stares so I wanted to be alone but I just excused that.
I plan to start clearing Knoxx’s name by looking at the records of the investigation conducted before papa was hanged. When I look at the records I can probably see a clue or evidence that just frames everything up.
I knew that Trevas and Lina would be worried when I told them my plan because it was too risky so I had no other choice but to keep my plans secret from them.
I went to a corner and took off the long evening dress I was wearing and hid it behind an armor stand.
I was wearing black fitted combat clothes that b-blended into the darkness of the surroundings so I didn’t get too much attention by the two royal guards standing in the garden a few steps away from me.
When I could see the clothes on the back of the armor stand, I teleported to a place here in the palace that I was very familiar with.
I hid behind a pole when royal guards passed by and waited for them to leave before carefully entering inside a large building. This is the building for the department of investigation and here are all the records and important documents about the investigations conducted throughout the history of Bauxacel. This is also where the records of the investigation they did on papa are kept.
A meeting room opened up to me as soon as I entered the building. I didn't know where to find the records so I peeked through every door I passed a few times before I found the library -like room with so many papers and records.
Fortunately, there was a celebration going on in the palace hall, so I met very few palace guards and servants who I could easily hide because of my ability to teleport.
I looked around first and made sure no one else was in the room before I walked over to a shelf containing all the records of the investigations conducted last year.
I gasped. It's been a year.
I went through each book on the shelf containing the records one by one. The year and the name of the person involved in the investigation are written on the spine of the book and I am very thankful that the books are alphabetical so I could easily see the name ‘Alen Knoxx’
I quickly picked it up and was about to open it when suddenly the door opened and I heard two voices.
I hid in a dark corner and peeked in the direction of the door where Hailey’s dad and another man I didn’t know were currently arguing.
“What a great daughter you have Prime minister- oh, should I say minister of the 3rd rank?” said the man I don't know but I think I saw him at the party earlier.
"She's still young, she doesn't know what she's doing" Hailey's father replied to her before they walked together to where I was hiding so I hid myself even more on the side of the shelf.
“Young? They are almost the same age as my daughter Mara and yet look at her, She’s engaged to his highness Luke and he is of great benefit to Master ”
So he’s 1st minister Laxxon, Lady Mara’s father.
Wait, Master? Who is the master he is referring to? I frowned and tightened my grip on the book I was holding especially when the two came closer to where I was hiding. I could not teleport out because enchantment fenced this room as protection and security for the important documents that are here.
"Shut your mouth minister Laxxon, you forgot that Master is still angry with you because your men slapped you to kill Alissa Knoxx"
I could almost let go of the book I was holding because of what I heard. Their master wants me dead? Why?
“Oh really? I bet if you are the- ”Minister Laxxon interrupted and stopped walking, so Minister Haviour, who followed him, also stopped.
“Why did you stop? We have to hurry because no one knows we are here ”
"The records" began by Minister Laxxon so I was suddenly nervous, "The records about the case of Alen Knoxx, It's gone"
"What?"
"Shit, Master won't be glad to hear this…"
Minister Haviour pushed Minister Laxxon away from him and tried to rummage through the records on the shelf, probably looking for the records I have now.
I took advantage of the fact that they were busy searching to try to escape but I was stopped and returned to my hiding place when Minister Haviour spoke again.
"Close the door, I have a strong feeling that the one who took the records is still here"
"Shit, why did you just now think of destroying those records when a year has passed since Alen was hanged" Minister Laxxon said confused and annoyed to his companion.
"If you just did your job of killing Alissa well, I hope we don't have to do it anymore"
I went back to where I was hiding and looked around, I was looking for another way out because Minister Laxxon was waiting at the door while Minister Haviour was walking around the room trying to find me. I was suddenly nervous when I saw that there was no window or other door in the room other than the door guarded by Minister Laxxon.
"Should I look outside?" Minister Laxxon asked but Minister Haviour did not say a word that he was only a few steps away from me.
My chest throbbed faster and I prepared the sharp ice in my hand that I would attack him once he saw me. I can't get caught now, now that I've seen the records.
I would squeeze myself harder on the side of the shelf that I was hiding so close to Minister Haviour and he would only see me one step further.
