Pei Yansi’s fingers loosened one by one from Shen Heyu’s hand.
After breaking free from Pei Yansi’s hold, Shen Heyu immediately turned her head to look at Lu Yi and said indifferently, “Now we can leave.”
Lu Yi, with a frown, glared at Pei Yansi fiercely, then, angry, dropped the brick in his hand. He raised his hand, pointing at Pei Yansi’s nose to warn, “Pei Yansi, just because you’re the president of Pei Group, don’t think you can do whatever you want and act above the law. This is the last time I’m warning you. If you dare to entangle with my wife again, don’t blame me for not being polite to you.”
After laying down that threat, Lu Yi grabbed Shen Heyu’s wrist and pulled her straight into the car.
Once Shen Heyu was in the car, she was silent as if she were a lifeless doll, just blankly staring through the car window at the city scenery, unable to feel her own heartbeat.
The silent atmosphere in the car was somewhat frightening. Lu Yi furrowed his brows, “Don’t you have anything you want to say to me?”
“What do you want me to say to you?” Shen Heyu had nothing good to say to Lu Yi. The Lu Yi before her was just a complete stranger donning a familiar skin.
Shen Heyu closed her eyes in silence. Unable to bear Shen Heyu not paying attention to him, Lu Yi, in anger, grasped her wrist, forcing her to turn and face him.
“You haven’t clearly explained to me why you appeared at Pei Group tonight. You came here looking for Pei Yansi, don’t tell me it was to find an antidote for the deadly poison in Yuexue’s body?”
“Shen Heyu, I advise you not to waste your efforts or harbor any delusions. No matter what, Pei Yansi will not be able to find the antidote to that deadly poison. Only by agreeing to my demands can you save your daughter. And I have already given you a deadline.”
“Three days. If I don’t hear an answer that satisfies me after three days, I’d rather take the antidote back than give it to you—you can start preparing for your daughter’s funeral.”
Hearing his threat, Shen Heyu angrily shook off Lu Yi’s grip on her wrist. She glared back furiously, her gaze so piercing as if it could transform into a tangible sword and stab directly through his heart.
“We still have three days, right? Since you’ve given me time to consider, let’s wait for my answer after three days. Don’t bother me now. I’m very tired today, and I just want to rest.”
After giving Lu Yi a fierce glare, Shen Heyu turned her head and closed her eyes to rest. She did not speak a word to Lu Yi the entire way until the car stopped. Only then did she abruptly open her eyes, pushed open the car door, and swiftly walked out without giving Lu Yi a second look.
Lu Yi watched Shen Heyu’s retreating figure, just furrowing his brows tightly, and in the end, said nothing. As long as Shen Heyu didn’t continue to entangle with Pei Yansi, he could still tolerate a bit of her bad temper.
After Pei Yansi let go of Shen Heyu’s hand and watched her leave with Lu Yi, he felt overwhelmed by a tide of distress and actually fainted, fortunately caught in time by Zhao Jin.
When Pei Yansi opened his eyes again, he found Zhao Jin had been by his side vigilantly the entire time, looking at him with worried eyes. Pei Yansi frowned, trying to sit up but then felt as if his head was weighted down with lead, heavy and somewhat painful.
“Why am I in the hospital?”
Zhao Jin was a man, and unlike women, he wasn’t as meticulous when it came to taking care of others.
He poured a glass of water for Pei Yansi and said, “President, have you forgotten? After Mistress and Lu Yi left, you fainted. The doctor said you’ve been working too hard lately and fainted from heartbreak all at once. You’ll be fine as long as you get some rest.”
Pei Yansi glanced at the glass of water in his hand but simply shook his head.
He didn’t want to drink, and Zhao Jin, being a man, didn’t force him. He quietly placed the glass on the bedside table and couldn’t help but sigh heavily.
“Why are you sighing?” His sigh made Pei Yansi displeased, as Pei Yansi was fully aware that his sigh was certainly related to him.
“President, I just can’t understand why someone as outstanding as you would insist on getting Mistress back. Since Mistress’ heart has changed, and she wants to be with another man, why not just let her be free? It would be better for both of you. Maybe after some time, she will come to her senses and even thank you for letting go.”
Zhao Jin had never loved a woman as deeply as Pei Yansi did, and he couldn’t understand why someone as high and mighty as Pei Yansi would one day stoop so low to beg a woman not to leave him.
“You don’t understand.”
“I don’t understand how someone of your status, with any woman at your disposal, would fixate on this. Even if Mistress has left, aren’t there women like the Chen Family’s heiress who are desperate to be by your side?”
“In my heart, there is only Shen Heyu, and only she can be accepted. As for other women, they can no longer squeeze into my life. Don’t talk in the future, or I’ll dock your year-end bonus.” Pei Yansi threatened Zhao Jin bluntly.
