“You’re not even willing to explain, which means you’ve given up struggling. Everything I’m saying is the truth, right? You vile woman, you look so pure on the surface, but behind the scenes, you’re incredibly promiscuous.”
“And you even have a daughter. I really worry whether Yuexue will turn out to be just like you. Your daughter won’t even grow up; she might not live past the age of four. She’ll soon die in the hospital, and it will all be thanks to you. If it weren’t for your mistakes, she could have grown up safely.”
Lu Yi became more and more excessive, even reaching the point of speaking without restraint. Shen Heyu couldn’t hold back anymore; she raised her hand to slap Lu Yi, but Yansi, hearing what he said, furiously grabbed Lu Yi by the collar and punched him.
The punch knocked Lu Yi to the ground. Lu Yi felt his head buzzing, the world spinning around him. He shook his head vigorously and managed to clear his vision.
He looked up at the furious Yansi, gritted his teeth, and tried to tremble his way up from the ground.
“You just hit me, didn’t you? Do you realize your daughter’s life is in my hands? How dare you lay a hand on me at a time ? Aren’t you afraid I’ll just let your daughter die in the hospital?”
Lu Yi had the antidote that Yuexue needed. Without the antidote, Yuexue wouldn’t live more than a month. Feeling empowered by this leverage, Lu Yi became even more reckless.
But Yansi didn’t yet know that Yuexue had been poisoned and only had a month to live. He advanced angrily, prepared to teach Lu Yi a lesson, but Shen Heyu, terrified, quickly grabbed Yansi’s hand.
“Please, no more beating. I’m begging you, for my sake, for Yuexue’s sake, please stop.”
Shen Heyu’s fearful interception stopped Yansi. He felt a fire burning inside him, every word that Lu Yi had spoken stepping on his landmines, and just when he thought he could teach Lu Yi a lesson, Shen Heyu stood in his way.
Yansi looked incredulously at Shen Heyu, furrowing his brow forcefully. “Shen Heyu, did you not hear what he just said? He’s actually threatening me using Yuexue’s safety. We may be separated, but Yuexue is also your daughter. How can you just watch your own daughter being used and hurt by others?”
Shen Heyu couldn’t respond to Yansi’s questions. She slowly lowered her head in front of him, her voice trembling, repeatedly pleading with Yansi.
“Please, I’m begging you, don’t hit him again. Continuing this fight isn’t good for anyone, especially for Yuexue. Yuexue really likes Lu Yi, she already sees him as her future father.”
Yansi took a deep breath, and in that moment, he felt as though his heart shattered like a piece of glass, breaking into pieces.
“Shen Heyu, to maintain your marriage, which is in name only, are you even willing to sacrifice your daughter? And when did Yuexue go to the hospital? I wasn’t aware of that.”
Yansi calmed down a bit; he slowly unclenched his fist. Seeing him becoming calmer, Shen Heyu finally exhaled in relief.
“Yuexue caught a cold and ran a fever a couple of days ago. She’s been in the hospital but it’s nothing serious, so I didn’t bother you. Besides, you’ve been very busy lately; this didn’t seem important enough to trouble you.”
Shen Heyu spoke without even daring to lift her head to look into Pei Yansi’s eyes.
Pei Yansi, a man who had struggled through the business world for so many years, could immediately see through someone’s lies, let alone Shen Heyu who had been his confidant for years.
It was easy to tell that Shen Heyu was lying, even though she kept her head down, refusing to make eye contact, Pei Yansi still saw through her.
“Did Yuexue really just catch a cold and have a fever that required hospitalization? Why would a simple cold and fever cause her to stay in the hospital for two days? Furthermore, the words Lu Yi said earlier didn’t sound like it was just a simple cold and fever. Are you lying to me?”
“Why would I lie to you about this? I just thought a little cold and fever wasn’t worth troubling you over. Besides, Yuexue is young, she hasn’t been resting well or sleeping properly lately, which means her immunity is low, and that’s why she had to stay in the hospital for two days. She will be discharged in the next two days.”
“Take me to the hospital now to see her. I need to confirm that it’s just a cold and fever. If I find out you’re lying, I will definitely not let you go, nor will I let Lu Yi off.”
Pei Yansi grabbed Shen Heyu’s hand to take her outside, while Lu Yi grabbed Shen Heyu’s other hand, furrowing his brows intensely. Today, he and Shen Heyu had come out to book a room for some intimate time.
But Pei Yansi was trying to take Shen Heyu away even before he had the chance to hold her, and Lu Yi would never just stand by and watch his rival take away the woman he had long coveted.
“If you want to go to the hospital to see Yuexue, then go by yourself. There’s no need to take Shen Heyu. She won’t go with you. Right, Shen Heyu?” Lu Yi hinted at Shen Heyu.
Shen Heyu bit her lip hard and pulled her hand away from Pei Yansi.
“I’ve told you several times already, Yuexue really is alright, and she needs rest because of her cold and fever. She might not even want to see you, so don’t disturb her. I won’t go with you. Please leave on your own.”
Lu Yi knew Shen Heyu was smart, knowing how to choose at times , and he smiled satisfactorily.
Lu Yi then raised his head, glaring menacingly at President Pei, “President Pei, you can leave now. We, as a couple, plan to do some intimate things, and surely you wouldn’t want to stick around for that, would you?”
President Pei failed to comprehend the implication of Lu Yi’s words. He just looked at Shen Heyu’s pale face. Not having seen her for a few days, he noticed she had lost a noticeable amount of weight, even her clothes appeared too large.
“Do you really want to stay? Do you know what waits for you here today if you choose to stay?”
His words pierced Shen Heyu’s heart like a needle. Shen Heyu lifted her head, tears in her eyes as she spoke to President Pei, “Of course I know. It’s precisely because I am fully aware that I chose to stay. Please, President Pei, you can leave now. I believe you wouldn’t indulge in the indecency of spying on another’s intimate affairs.”
“Fine, this is your choice.”
