CHAPTER 45

"Yh me too. And it baffles me allot. The killer has been killing kids and teenagers lately. Why is this middle aged man his target now?" Elena asked as she buried her face on her palms.
"Ok, except for Phillips" she said finally, raising up her face.
"Remember Phillips was killed because he saw the Killer's face?" Laura chipped in.
"I think my dad told me a little about one Jeffrey Logan. He said that Logan guy had a fight with the Mayor at the council meeting two days ago" Alex said.
"Hmm, this is making sense now. He had a fight with the mayor and now he's the target?" Elena asked as she stood up and walked round the room.
"Guys, are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Laura asked looking back and forth at Elena and Alex.
"I don't know if my haunch is right about the mayor. But if it is, we need to save Logan, maybe he might know something about these deaths" Elena said.
"But all these sounds crazy. I don't know why I'm having a bad feeling about the mayor. If he is actually the killer or somehow related to it, why would he kill his subjects he is supposed to protect?" Alex asked as he stared at Elena.
"That's the question that seems rhetorical right now. It's the more reason we should save Logan. Maybe he might know something" Elena said.
"But we don't know anything about him" Alex chipped in as Laura smiled.
"Let's go to the basement" she said standing up as she walked towards the basement while Alex and Elena followed her.
They got there as Laura sat on the armchair there. She picked her phone and saw the missed calls Elena gave her.
"Oh damn" she said and glanced back at Elena who was standing back at her.
"Told you" Elena said as she breathed down.
Laura started operating on the system as she searched for, Jeffrey Logan on the screen.
"Guys you've gotta see this" Laura said as they gathered and stared at the screen.
"Age 45, married to Molly Logan. Have three kids but all are staying in Spain with their mom, interesting" Laura said nodding her head.
"This all makes sense. Jeffrey is the next target because his kids and wife are not in town. Great" Alex said raising his hands up in the air.
"Member of the council since 2002. Works in Mystic Hollow Central Bank as the manager. Hmm" Laura said staring at the screen.
"So.. Is that his location right now?" Elena asked staring at the screen.
"I don't know yet, but we are gonna find out real soon" she said as she started operating on the keyboard again.
"Here, dial this number on the screen" She told Elena who seemed lost.
"Why? I don't know who have the number" Elena protested making Laura frustrated.
"See, that's the only way we can know his location. You dial that number, once he picks, I'll be able to track his cell phone" Laura explained as Elena nodded.
She dialed the number as it rung for the first and second time without being responded to.
"He's not taking the call" Elena complained.
"Well, try it again" Laura insisted as he did.
"He's taken it!" She mouthed to Laura who nodded and started operating on the system.
#Hello?" A voice was heard from over the phone but Elena kept mute.
#Hello, can't you talk?" The voice said again.
"I got it" Laura mouthed to Elena who nodded and ended the call.
"Where's his location?" Elena asked.
"He's at the central bank now" Laura stated as Elena's cell phone starts to ring.
"Laura, he's calling back" she said staring at the phone screen.
"Well, don't answer it. Switch off your phone" Alex said taking the phone from her hand as he switched it off.
"How many days do we have left for the homicide to occur?" Alex asked.
" happening tomorrow" Elena said.
"How do we know where it is gonna happen? We've known our target and the day it would occur" Alex added.
"I'll be keeping track of him wherever he goes, with his cell phone till tomorrow. But for now we need to survey the bank. We don't know how it's like in the inside" Laura said.
"I've never been to Mystic Hollow Central Bank before " Elena stated.
"Me too" Alex added.
"Neither have I" Laura said.
"What are we gonna do now?" Laura asked as Elena remembered Sarah telling her someone would get hurt.
She doesn't want anyone to get hurt, so she'll have to take the risks and be the one to get hurt.
Or so she thought.
"I'll go" She said as Laura and Alex averted their gazes towards her.
"Ok, that's cool" Laura said.
"I'm coming with you" Alex said
"No, you can't come. You don't want us to look suspicious do you?' Elena asked him as he nodded.
"Yh, you're right" he said sitting back.
"Here take this" Laura said giving her an earphone which she inserted around her ear and used her hair to cover it.
"Good luck" Laura said making Elena give a feeble laugh.
"Not as if I'm going to a suicide mission or something. I'm just going to check how the place is" Elena protested.
"Yh, but you know it's a bank. It's not like the mall or the hospital" Alex said with a shrug.
"Yh, right. I'd be careful" Elena said with a nod as she breathed down.
"This is it" Laura pinned a mini camera on her black top.
"Let's do this" Elena said placing her palm on the air.
"All for one" she said as Alex and Laura placed their's on hers.
"And one for all" they echoed as she smiled and nodded.
She walked out of the basement and went straight to the living room.
She saw Alex's half glass of lemonade as she took it and gulped down.
"Ewww" she said squeezing her face as she dropped it back on the stool and walked towards the door.
She got outside the building and hailed the first cab she saw. Entering in, he drove her straight to Mystic Hollow Central Bank.
She paid the cabby and alighted. Walking towards the gigantic Bank, she swallowed hard staring at the building.
She Walked towards the lobby and met two security men that scanned her body checking for weapons but they saw none.
"Drop your cell phone here" one of the security men told her as she dropped it inside.
"And the camera too" he said as Elena opened her eyes.
She cleared her throat and unpin the camera before dropping it inside.
"Oh oh, she just got busted" Laura who was chewing cheese balls said as she swallowed the one in her mouth.
"What's the camera for?" They asked her.
"For security purpose, Mystic Hollow ain't save remember?" She said smiling at them.
"The bank is always secured" one of them said making her nod.
"You may go" they said as she breathed down and walked down the lobby. She was so glad they didn't see the earpod else she would have been busted.
She got to the desk officer who seemed engrossed with the system. He looked over 34.
"Hello sir?" She said knocking on the counter as the desk officer raised his face to meet her gaze.
"Hola Sénorita, en que puédo ayudarlo?" He said smiling at her as she swallowed hard.
"I'm sorry sir. I'd prefer English" She said smiling.
"Lo siénto, no hablo inglès." The desk officer said waving his hands.
She got frustrated as she placed her left hand on the ear that she inserted the earphone.
"Guys, I think we have a problem" Elena said walking to the security men to take back her phone.
"What is it?" Laura asked.
"The desk officer here doesn't speak English and I don't even know the language he is speaking to me" Elena stated.
