Third POV.
“What?” they all exclaimed as they looked at her in disbelief.
“Grandma, are you serious?” Leila asked curiously.
“Yes, I am. Do you think I can be joking because of such a serious thing? I know everything that has been going on and have seen how you guys treat others after knowing your true identities,” the moon goddess said with a displeasing look and disappointment evident in her eyes.
“Why? Why should we trust him? Also, we have always treated others or as I should say, people whom we don’t know the same way we treated him hence I can’t understand why you tend to be disappointed in us for how we treated him or is there something we should know of?” Elana asked as she tried to read the moon goddess's emotions upon hearing her question.
“Kid, I can't believe you are trying to read my emotions. Don’t you dare forget your place,” the moon goddess said coldly, making them flinch.
Leila looked at her and wondered why she reacted in such a way and it was just reading the emotions and not the mind.
Chuckling, Elana said, “Guess Josiah is more important to you than we thought. I won’t be surprised anymore if you care more about him than you care about us.”
Hearing this, the moon goddess knew that she had made a mistake by reacting the way she did. She wanted to speak but Elana shook her head to her as if she knew that she would try defending herself or make them feel guilty for not trusting her enough.
“I am sorry but I can’t tell you why you should all trust him,” the moon goddess said after taking a deep sigh.
“Guess you really made your decision, huh? For Josiah, you can even use a tone you’ve never used on us. Yet you think that we will just do as you say? We have gifts but you ain't the one who granted them to us. If we won't leave this place to avoid the battle then we can. I am sure that your entire creation would be wiped out,” Leila said coldly after seeing her grandmother's attitude towards them because of a man.
“You are wrong. If you all leave then you will be doing my creations a favor. They aren't after you to destroy your creation but to claim you since you have darkness in you. After all, your biological grandfather is the god of darkness. Unlike you who have a potion of darkness in you, he is filled with darkness,” she said with a smirk.
“You never cared about us even a single bit. The nanny was right. You are so cruel even to your family for your selfishness. You sent Mom here leaving her with no choice cause she reminded you of the past and now, you care more about a man than us just because we are related to that man?” Elana said in disbelief and hurt evident in her eyes.
“You all got me wrong. I care about you more than I care about my creation or anyone else here. And you should all detour from talking to me in such a manner. What do you think people will say if one barges in here and hears you talking to me in such a manner?” the moon goddess asks, disappointment evident in her tone.
Leila and Elana rolled their eyes as they thought that all their grandmother thought was herself and everything that concerned them.
Looking at them, the moon goddess could see through them and wondered what she had said wrong to get such a reaction from them. After all, they were her family, carrying her blood in them hence she cared a lot about them and it hurt her to see their indifference towards her.
“I don't think there is anything else to ask you or talk about with you,” Leila said as she laid back. “ I want to have some rest.”
“I know that you are angry at me for what I said but it's just the truth. Even if you ask your grandfather, or mother or get in touch with your father, they will still tell you the same thing I did,” the moon goddess said calmly.
“What are you hiding from us? Why should we trust a stranger when all we have been taught is never to trust strangers? Or, is he your son? Did you and Grandpa decide to get a kid?” Elana asked.
Immediately she said that she felt a hot sensation on her right cheek making her hold it. She knew what had happened and she turned her head to look at the culprit.
Noticing the cheek turn red and the mark, the moon goddess felt guilty. Seeing Elana’s eyes filled with tears, she felt even worse. Not knowing what to do to make up for what she had done, she moved closer to Elana but Elana took a step backwards.
“Impressive. I thought that Josiah had already come between us when you spoke to us coldly. I never expected that you could even slap Elana for him. Are you the grandma we know? The one who promised to always protect us after mom left us?” Leila said as tears attempted to escape.
“No, that’s not the case. Elana I am really sorry. I wasn’t supposed to hit you even though I was mad at what you said,” the moon goddess said.
“Do you think that your apology means anything now Grandma? Is it a crime to want to know why we should trust Josiah? For him, you can go to such an extent. I am even having doubts whether we are really your grandchildren or just tools for you,” Elana said coldly.
The moon goddess was heartbroken by their behavior and words but she knew that nothing she said would help at all.
“The reason I slapped you is because of your words. How can I get another child? I love your mother so much. Even though I never loved her father, she is my flesh and blood and I love her so much. I love you guys too. Josiah isn't part of our family. I know you are all anxious about everything but it will be fine,” the moon goddess.
“Your father is somewhere around.”
