Chapter 6: Meet my ex-husband
My life is back to normal, Min still has to go to school but the outdoor activities I don't want her to participate in because it's not good for her body. During Min's time at school, I also went to work, and sometimes during breaks, I could see her through the camera of the classroom. This child has always been quiet and doesn't like outdoor activities or jogging, which is different from other children her age should worry me.
After work, I quickly arranged to leave and was called by Lina my superior.
“Hey, where are you going?” - Lina was loud, though she didn't say my name at all, I knew that she called me because Lina was the only one in the company who treated me no head and tail like that.
I put on my backpack, my hands still organizing documents not caring for her, and I was very annoyed by my superficial attitude: “I'm going home.”
“Who let you go, have you finished the work I've given you?” - Lina flung her chin.
I sighed, the company is so large, and there are so many employees, so why to bother bullying me alone, I brought the thick document in front of Lina and put it on her desk:
“Here, I've done everything you've given me.”
“When you're done, keep doing the work for tomorrow, you look at how many people are left here to work, you rely on what you want to go home on time!” - Lina shouted, all the staff in the room immediately turned their eyes towards us, they even laughed as if they were watching a farce.
My hands are clenched, this is not the once or twice Lina has made it difficult for me. She always relied on her position higher than I should have bullied me. I said with a loud voice:
“Relying on me as a human being, as a citizen with liberty, as a mother, and having to go home to care for my family. Is that enough?”
Without waiting for Lina's response, I immediately left the company, if I had to leave work tomorrow, I would happily leave, anyway, there's no need to force myself in such a superior company.
I went to Min's school, it's been a long time since, after school, there are only Min and Miss Nana left in the classroom.
“I'm here to pick up Min.” - I was reluctant to bow down, I was the only parent to pick up my child late every day, and Nana didn't manage to work because she had to watch Min until I arrived, fortunately, she didn't have a husband.
“Flora, you're here, let me call Min… Min! Here comes your mother.”
The child heard his mother come, threw the toy aside, and ran quickly to the door, the sweet and childish voice shouting:
"Mom, you're too late, my friends are all home!"
"I'm sorry, I'll come earlier next time." - I held my daughter and greeted Nana.
Day in, day out, nothing special, but I think this is good. In the morning Min goes to school, and I go to work; In the evening I get out of work and come back to pick her up, we roam on the way back home sometimes I'll buy some snacks for her even though Min never asked.
Thought that, because I was rude to Lina yesterday, she would report my bad behavior to my superiors so that I could be taken off my pay or fired. But things didn't go according to my mind, Lina saw me coming and glared at me fiercely, she arrogantly carried a bunch of documents on my desk while I hadn't sat down...
“Yesterday, you left early while everyone was still working, so today you have to do twice the normal work, if you don't finish today, work the weekend overtime.” - Lina arrogantly
I sighed, nevertheless I could do nothing but accept these injustices: “I know.”
Seeing me compromise so quickly, Lina happily smiled as if she won over me.
The office only had the sound of typing, then suddenly everything was in a commotion because the amount of work was so much that I couldn't notice what was going on until the whispering grew louder and louder, causing me to lose my mind concentration.
"What's the matter?" I muttered silently.
“Miss Flora, nice to meet you.” - The beautiful blonde woman named Gemma Taylor looked at me smiling amiably and said hello.
I looked at her in amazement, why is she here?
“Miss Tay-… me… why are you here?” - I stammered and asked.
Taylor kept a smile on his face, and she said:
“I am here on behalf of the DIZ Group to discuss the contract, I happen to know Miss Flora works here as well, so I came over to say hello.”
At this time, I remember that my company was actually working on a big project, the biggest ever, but I didn't expect that project to be in cooperation with the DIZ Group. Realizing that I was rude, I stood up to say hello properly:
"I didn't know you were here."
Lina came out quickly, she reached out and wanted to shake hands with Taylor:
"Miss Taylor, don't notice, Flora is a new employee of the company who still doesn't know much about politeness, so she was rude to you just now. I apologize on behalf of Flora.”
But Taylor ignored Lina's words, Lina's arm was still in the air, and she hesitated to pull it back. Taylor still looked at me and went on to say, her voice was so soft and easy that the listener was sympathetic:
“Miss Flora, can I come to see my boss after work?”
“Boss…?” - I realized who the ‘Boss’ was in her words, and I immediately declined this offer.
“Sorry, I don't have time to meet anyone, send my apologies to your superiors.”
Taylor nodded softly, she did not show any attitude to my refusal as if she had anticipated I would refuse. But Lina was very dissatisfied with my attitude. Before Taylor left, she smiled friendly and said to me:
“Miss Flora, I hope you can reconsider and I think you'll reconsider, the specific address has already been texted to you. My boss is looking forward to your arrival. Now, if you'll excuse me, please leave first. Wishing everyone a productive day.”
After Taylor left, I was scolded by Lina with a loud voice:
“Flora, don't you know some rules? Do you know who Gemma Taylor is? You've been rude to her, what consequences you have to bear!”
“I…” - I was confused about what to say because it was true that I was rude to Taylor just now because I didn't know that she represented DIZ Group here to review the project.
People in the office started to criticize me as if I was harming the company while there was no loss. Although I don't care I am very restless and confused, if Lina says so, do I have to pay for the company? If the DIZ Group representative suddenly does not want to cooperate with my company just because I am not in a good attitude, what should I do?
After work, I went to Min's school.
Nana saw me running out to say hello:
“Are you here to pick up Min? Her father had come to pick her up before, didn't he say anything to you?”
I heard it and was surprised to ask:
“Who?” What father?”
“It's Enzo, Min's father has come to get Min.” - Nana repeated again.
The bag in my hand fell down, I panicked and grabbed Nana,
“Are you mistaken, my daughter… I didn't ask anyone to pick up Min, her father… it's impossible, did you look wrong?”
“Are you all right, Flora?” - Nana, who timidly stops, dodges my touching.
During the panic, suddenly the phone rang, I quickly picked up the phone. The other end of the wire says:
[Flora, when do you get here, I'm starting to get impatient!] - A masculine voice, serious but very familiar to me, is Enzo's voice.
“Enzo? Where's my daughter? Where'd you take her?” - I shouted.
Enzo laughed quietly and went on:
[She's also my daughter, you're thinking I'm gonna hurt her. Stop talking, come here.]
At this point, I remembered that Taylor had given me a specific address before and that I had to go to see her boss.
I took a taxi and quickly reached the rendezvous point, fearing and worried about Min, afraid that Enzo would harm her. The rendezvous point is a large restaurant, the interior is very luxuriously designed, and entering this place will feel what is called 'super expensive’.
But the scene in front of me was so beautiful that it was impossible to move me, I panicked looking around the store, but I didn't see a customer coming there. A waitress went to the palace to say hello and said:
"Good evening, ladies, please come over, Sir Enzo Robert is here."
I followed him and saw Enzo sitting watching the view outside the window. The increased anger made me unable to hold back and run quickly to Enzo's table.
‘Rumbling!’ I hit my hand on the table and said loudly:
“Where's my daughter? Where's Min? Give her back to me.”
Looking at Enzo's face he probably didn't expect me to be so loud, he shook his chin to the opposite side to imply I sat down:
“Sit down and talk, don't be a laughing stock.”
I reluctantly sat across from him, I still asked the question again but he seemed to be ignoring it, which made me mad. I was so worried about Min that I sat on the fire while Enzo could relax and order.
Actually, I didn't expect to see Enzo again one day, but the earth was already round, and if both of them were still alive, they would definitely meet again one day, but I didn't expect to see my ex-husband so quickly. Now that we're both in a top five-star restaurant in the city, outsiders will feel like we're a couple of lovers, but we're not.
