Chapter 152 Thank You
Veronica restrained her panic and looked towards Lisa who was beside her. Lisa also looked at her, making Veronica's heart beat faster.
Once Lisa colludes with Rachel, Veronica will be screwed.
Lisa suddenly remembered what she saw in the dressing room and thought that Rachel may have other evidence. She thought carefully about what she will reply.
Veronica was so nervous, her hands began to sweat.
"Lisa, Mr. Cage is here, speak up." Rachel said, excitedly waiting for the show.
Veronica lowered her head and crossed her fingers. She closed her eyes knowing that things won't end well.
"It wasn't true." Lisa suddenly replied, siding Veronica.
Veronica opened her eyes and could not believe what she had heard. She stared at Lisa, surprised.
Lisa asked her angrily, "What are you looking at? Am I that beautiful to be stared at like that?"
Veronica smiled and expressed her gratitude with a subtle expression. She never thought that Lisa would help her in such a critical situation.
Rachel was surprised, "Lisa, what are you talking about? You told me he was looking for her!"
"Yes, I'm sorry, Miss Hamilton. I was mistaken. I was so tired so I got confused about which artist was Veronica." Lisa said in an apologetic tone.
"You!" Rachel's face turned red in anger. "You said you took a picture!"
Lisa explained herself, "I deleted it the moment I found out that it wasn't her."
Rachel clenched her teeth and glared at Lisa, "Mr. Cage, that woman is lying. She said it herself that she saw Toby and Veronica hugging."
Veronica talked back with a straight face, "Miss Hamilton, why would you accuse someone without having any evidence. Lisa said it herself that she was mistaken. Talking without proof will make people think that you are only telling nonsense."
Rachel never thought that Lisa would turn her back from her own words. She told her that she saw everything with her very own eyes. Lisa even told her that she took a picture.
"Lisa, how dare you embarrass me like this. Aren't you afraid of losing your job?" Rachel threatened her.
Lisa's face changed. "I already told you I was mistaken. I'm not perfect, Miss Hamilton."
Rachel saw that her threat was useless. She faced Nick and saw the cold glance he gave Veronica before he turned away.
"Nick!" Rachel called and tried to catch up with Nick.
Veronica's taut nerves loosened, "Thank you, Lisa."
Lisa was also quite frightened. She collapsed to her seat and replied, "After what I have done for you? I think you owe me one."
"Yes, I will never forget your kindness. But, why did you help me out? " Veronica asked Lisa in bewilderment. She used to ignore Veronica and usually do things in favor of Rachel.
"Then you can thank me with a cup of coffee. Well, Didn't you know that I have fired six assistants before you? Yet you're still here because I think you are diligent, discerning and a self-motivated person. However, I do regret hiring you now because I might be jobless by tomorrow because of you."
Veronica said hurriedly, "Don't worry, I will make sure that you'll never lose your job!"
Lisa looked at her firmly in the eyes and finally asked the question that's been running in her mind, "Why are you having an affair with Master Cage? And why don't you want his brother Nick to know?"
"I'm not having an affair with Toby," Veronica replied with a straight face.
"Oh? Well, that was not how it looked like when I saw you two hugging. Come on, what's your connection?" Lisa asked curiously.
"Well, as we all know, Toby and Nick are brothers. Like his elder brother, Master Cage will not let his brother end up with an ordinary person like me. I'm not deserving." Veronica said with a dismayed face.
