Chapter 162 With A Bang
She thought to herself that she must trust the doctor's medical skills this time around.
If she disregarded the doctor's prescription and iced it herself, she wouldn't make a full recovery overnight.
Suddenly Nick's phone started vibrating, so he got up and went out of the room to answer the call.
"This injury in your face, did Mr. Cage do it?" Tracy was extremely curious about this girl.
It was because Mr. Cage repeatedly asked her to help with Veronica's treatment, first with asthma and now with redness and swelling on her face.
"It's not his fault," Veronica said intently.
Tracy understood that it was someone else who called for him and was only sent by Nick.
Something else must have happened.
Then there was no more need to ask this question.
"You are the first girl brought here by Mr. Cage, do you know that?" asked Tracy.
Veronica didn't feel anything for his special treatment of her.
She would rather give her feelings to someone else other than the cold and indifferent Nick Cage.
Tracy just didn't know who she was. If she did, she wouldn't be so surprised anymore.
Perhaps her heart should also feel like she was a lucky person for being treated specially by Nick. After all, with his high status, he would always spoil whichever woman he liked. If he actually liked her, then there was nothing in this world that she could not have.
Money, power, and status. Nick already mentioned to her this deal before he found out that Veronica was Chloe Bowen's daughter.
Still, she firmly rejected him.
She knew that such a deal was like a trap – full of temptation, yet once you fall into it, you won't be able to get up again from its dangers.
Veronica wondered. If Tracy was Nick's personal doctor, did Tracy know a lot about what happened to the Cage family?
But she didn't dare to ask her, because Nick could come back at any minute. She didn't want to get caught prying into his personal life.
And how could she make sure that if she asked Tracy about this, she wouldn't tell Nick that she asked her?
After applying for medicine, the two of them left the hospital.
She still took Nick's car on her way back home.
The car parked outside Veronica's house, dropping her off.
"Thank you for taking me back," said Veronica as she was making her way out of the car.
She heard Nick said, "I promise that this won't happen next time."
Veronica looked at him strangely. She felt her soul seemingly being sucked away whenever she stared at his deep eyes.
She lowered her eyes, said nothing, and turned away.
The Roll Royce was still parked outside her home as she stood at her doorstep. Nick was sitting inside with the door wide open, his black eyes staring at the slender figure in the distance, thinking about something no one could ever know.
Veronica entered her home and found that Isabella and Peter haven't come back yet.
She shut the door behind her.
As she changed her shoes, she saw the bracelet given by Toby Cage thrown at the porch.
She held it in her palm and her hands were shaking.
Veronica realized that Toby never did betray her after all. He only did it because he was worried that she would be hurt by his father. He just kept her away from him so that she stayed safe.
Back then Veronica couldn't figure out why Toby was so kind and caring to her, yet still set his foot in other boats.
She already believed that Toby was scum, so she didn't expect him to do so much for her behind her back.
What was his feeling when he let go of her? Wasn't it strange?
No wonder Toby's behavior was always so weird around her whenever she returned home.
At one point, she thought Toby wanted to get back together with her.
She remembered the conversation she had with Toby at dinner that day.
"When I think of you, Veronica, I feel particularly uncomfortable and annoyed," he said back then. He must have lied about that.
Putting the bracelet around her wrist, she felt regretful. "Why didn't he tell me? How could I be so timid?" she asked herself.
Just as she was looking at the bracelet, there was a knock at the door.
Veronica thought it was Isabella and Selena, but he seemed to have come back a little early today.
She calmed down and turned to open the door.
However, she froze when she opened the door and saw the black figure standing outside. Out of instinct, she slammed the door shut as fast as she could.
With a bang.
Veronica was so scared that she couldn't breathe. She also felt her heart thumping out of her chest. What's Nick doing here? Why hadn't he gone home?
