Mercenary’s War Chapter 66

66: Chapter 65: The Terrifying Woman 66: Chapter 65: The Terrifying Woman The rotund woman, with her astonishing combat prowess and presence, knocked everyone to the ground, freeing the beleaguered girl. The first thing the girl did upon regaining her freedom was to rush to the unlucky guy being hoisted on the shoulders of two sturdy men, wind up her hand, and smack him squarely across the face, delivering several resounding slaps before kicking out and sending the poor chap flying. It looked just as if two bar bouncers had propped up the sorry fellow for the girl to thrash mercilessly. The woman continued to vent her rage, and the burly mother wasn’t idle either. With one hand, she wielded her rolling pin, knocking down any strongman that dared to resist. No one could withstand even one blow from her; she was indeed imposing and unrivaled in her dominance. After laying out every able-bodied creature present, the mighty mother placed one hand on her hip and, still brandishing the rolling pin with the other, cursed out loud for quite a while. Finally, she grabbed the still-outraged girl, and hand in hand, the mother-daughter duo strutted toward the building where Gao Yang and the others were, leaving behind only a heap of pitiful, battered souls squirming on the ground. Gao Yang gaped at this whirlwind of a mother and daughter duo, mentally bowing down to their might, and as the formidable pair passed by Gao Yang and his two companions, the domineering mom glanced sideways at them and snorted heavily through her nose. Gao Yang quickly ducked his head in the face of the Skinheads’ intimidating stares, realizing soon after that Lao Liu and Li Jinfang were doing the same. None of them dared to meet the fierce mother’s gaze. Only when they heard the mother and daughter stomping upstairs did Gao Yang wipe the cold sweat from his forehead and say, “Wow, that was intense, really scary. Truly worthy of the fighting nation.” Li Jinfang nodded frantically in agreement, while Lao Liu chuckled bitterly, “As a Russian, I feel an immense pressure. Although such women are rare, what if I run into one? You need to understand that a woman can be very different before and after marriage. My God, I’m only thirty-one, and I already have a psychological shadow. That’s it—I have to find a gentle Huaxia girl. I must, absolutely must.” Gao Yang sympathized deeply with Lao Liu. Patting him on the shoulder in agreement, he spoke in a serious tone, “Let’s hurry up and find the people we’re looking for. But why do I have this ominous premonition?” Both Li Jinfang and Lao Liu’s faces suddenly went pale, “What do you mean by that?” Gao Yang looked around to make sure no one was there, though he didn’t know why he did that. “Let me tell you, the people we’re looking for are also a mother and daughter. Even though I know the chances are slim, I still have this feeling that they are the same ones we just saw, just a hunch.” Lao Liu said blankly, “What do you want with them? It’s not revenge, is it?” Gao Yang quickly shook his head, “No, of course not. I’m just here to deliver money on someone’s behalf, it has nothing to do with seeking revenge.” Relieved, Lao Liu laughed, “Deliver money? What’s there to be afraid of? As long as it isn’t about delivering your life, it’s fine.” Li Jinfang, unimpressed, said, “Look at how scared you guys are. The people we’re looking for being that mother and daughter? There’s no such coincidence in this world.” Gao Yang nodded, “I also think it’s unlikely. I was just speaking off the cuff. The girl I’m looking for studies music—she’s a pianist. She couldn’t possibly be that fierce. Let’s just get our business done and get out of here quickly. This is not a place to linger.” Gao Yang and Li Jinfang were about to leave, but they saw Lao Liu standing still, looking worried, “Did I mention to you guys that the girl plays piano in a bar? Also, the address written on this note is the third floor, and if you had noticed earlier, the mother was throwing flower pots from the third floor too.” Gao Yang and Li Jinfang immediately stopped in their tracks, Gao Yang furrowed his brow and said, “No way, could it really be such a coincidence? Li Jinfang laughed heartily and said, “What’s there to think about? We’re here to deliver money, not to pick a fight. What are you two scared of? Let’s go, even if there’s trouble, I’ve got your backs, rest assured.” Gao Yang also felt his concerns were groundless, but thinking about how formidable that mother had been earlier, he still felt somewhat uneasy. Nevertheless, they needed to find the place and check to see if their guess was right or wrong. Following the address on the note, Gao Yang and the others knocked on a door, and as they knocked, Lao Liu, following Gao Yang’s instructions, called out in Russian in an extremely gentle voice, “Is anyone there? We’ve come to deliver something, uh, we’re friends of Yuri Grolevsky Ivanov, he sent us.” After Lao Liu finished speaking, Gao Yang suddenly felt something was wrong, then he remembered all at once, Grolev knew to give his alias and not his real name, Gao Yang quickly pulled Lao Liu aside and said, “I forgot something, you said it was Grolev who sent us…” Before Gao Yang could finish, he heard a click from inside the house, a sound he was very familiar with, extremely familiar with, in fact. If he hadn’t misheard, that should have been the sound of a gun’s breech snapping shut. Connecting the sound with a hunting rifle, Gao Yang inwardly cursed, yanked Lao Liu aside, and both men dashed to one side. Right after a loud bang, a large hole appeared in the wooden door. Before Gao Yang had time to feel scared, another bang followed, and the large hole in the door doubled. Gao Yang never expected that a momentary lapse could have almost cost Lao Liu his head. In a panic, he quickly shouted in English, “Don’t shoot, we’re friends of Grolev.” Fortunately, Lao Liu was quick to react as well. He immediately repeated Gao Yang’s words in Russian. After that, there were no more shots from inside the house, a woman shouted a few times in a loud voice, then soon called out in English, “Come in slowly, no funny business.” Lao Liu, with a bitter face, said, “She’s telling us to go inside, what do we do?” Gao Yang nodded and said, “I understood her, let me talk to her.” The door with a large hole opened, and Gao Yang coughed lightly, then, raising his hands, he slowly walked to the doorway. At first glance, his heart sank. His premonition had been correct; the fierce mother and daughter from earlier were staring him down from inside the room. Looking at the smoking barrel of the overweight mother’s hunting rifle, Gao Yang struggled to put on a smile and said, “Hello, I’m a friend of Grolev, I’ve been entrusted by him to deliver money to you. I am truly his friend, please don’t misunderstand.” Although he knew he was well-intentioned and unlikely to be beaten, Gao Yang was still nervous, for no other reason than the deep impression that mother and daughter had left on him earlier. However, after Gao Yang finished speaking, he was surprised to see the mother become furious. “That damned bastard, is he still alive?”
