Mercenary’s War Chapter 64

64: Chapter 63 Moscow 64: Chapter 63 Moscow Moscow, Sheremetyevo International Airport, After enduring an excruciating six days, Gao Yang finally arrived here. Although aside from frightening himself, Gao Yang had a smooth journey reaching Harbin City and successfully met with Motolov, processing a fake passport and obtaining a real visa for his assumed identity took time. Especially after Li Jinfang also arrived in Harbin City, Motolov needed to create two fake passports for Gao Yang, which required even more time. You get what you pay for, a fake passport priced at one hundred and fifty thousand wasn’t cheap, but thinking about the convenience it would bring in the future, Gao Yang also procured a fake passport for Li Jinfang. Of course, the money came out of Gao Yang’s pocket. Motolov indeed had the capability; in just four days, two passports were produced, aside from the photos, all other information was fraudulent. Then, Gao Yang and Li Jinfang successfully boarded the plane to Moscow. The reason for going to Moscow was that Gao Yang wanted to take this opportunity to visit Glolov’s family. Since he was already in Russia, it was only natural for Gao Yang to fulfill Glolov’s entrustment and deliver Glolov’s money to his wife and children. When Gao Yang finally walked out of Sheremetyevo International Airport without incident, he couldn’t help but take a long breath, opened his arms wide, and exclaimed loudly, “The air of freedom is so wonderful, no more need to live in fear. We’re completely safe now. Jinfang, don’t you feel anything?” Compared to Gao Yang’s excitement, Li Jinfang, who stood quietly behind Gao Yang, seemed far too calm. From the time they split up on the train, until their reunion in Harbin City, and up to now, Li Jinfang had always worn that serene expression, always appearing completely unflustered. Hearing Gao Yang’s question, Li Jinfang shook his head and said, “What’s there to be sentimental about? Didn’t you say we would definitely reach Russia? Now we’ve arrived, there’s no difference from what you said. Why should I feel anything?” Gao Yang let out a helpless sigh and said, “You guys are trained too well, never changing countenance even if Mount Tai were to crumble before you, I just can’t do that. Fine, Lao Liu, how do we proceed?” The person Gao Yang referred to as Lao Liu was one of Motolov’s subordinates, a bona fide Russian. The reason for being called Lao Liu was because his name was Liu Shenke. After spending a long time in Harbin City under Motolov, the Huaxia People started calling him Lao Liu. Lao Liu could speak fluent Chinese, and considering that Gao Yang and Li Jinfang couldn’t speak Russian, Motolov generously arranged for Lao Liu to escort Gao Yang and Li Jinfang to Moscow, and wouldn’t need to return until after he had seen them safely out of Russia, of course, the cost of the plane tickets and travel expenses were to be covered by Gao Yang. “It doesn’t matter where you go, it depends on where you want to go. It’s only nine in the morning now; we have the whole day ahead. If you want to tour Moscow, I suggest you first visit Red Square, take a look at the Kremlin. If you plan to rest, we can find a hotel right away. If you want to leave Russia directly, I need to check for available flights. Libya is definitely a no-go, you can only fly first to Tunisia or Egypt, then figure out your own way to Libya afterward.” Gao Yang had asked casually but didn’t expect Lao Liu to provide at least three answers, leaving the final decision up to Gao Yang. After thinking it over, Gao Yang took out a piece of paper and handed it to Lao Liu, saying, “Can you see if this address is far from Red Square?” The paper had Glolov’s family’s address written in English and Russian. After a glance, Lao Liu nodded, saying, “I know this place, it’s not too far.” Gao Yang said excitedly, “Great, then this is what we’ll do, I think people are at work during the day and my friend’s family might not be home right now. Since we’ve come all this way, let’s first visit Red Square and take in the sights, so it won’t be like we came to Moscow for nothing. After that, in the afternoon, we’ll go to this address, find my friend’s house, get things settled, and leave directly tomorrow. Jinfang, what do you think?” With a puzzled look, Li Jinfang said, “You decide is fine, why ask me?” Gao Yang said in surprise, “Aren’t we here together? Naturally, we should discuss any matters together.” Li Jinfang shook his head and said, “Without you, I would have been caught back home, not to mention coming to Russia, even these clothes I’m wearing are bought with your money. Until I’ve paid you back, I have no right to expect equality with you. Also, I’m used to following orders, so until I break free from the habit of being a soldier, just speak directly to me about anything you need, I’ll take your words as a command. There’s no helping it, it’s an occupational hazard.” Gao Yang shrugged and said, “I hadn’t thought that much, but since you brought up an occupational hazard, I’ll stop consulting you on things, let’s head to Red Square, advance!” With Lao Liu present, Gao Yang had nothing to worry about, simply following his lead. When it was time to pay, he just paid obediently. Before coming to Russia, he had exchanged the remaining less than fifty thousand RMB with Motolov for Rubles. After deducting the travel expenses for him and Li Jinfang, and the money reserved for Lao Liu’s return flight, Gao Yang still had a surplus of twenty thousand. Although not a lot, it was enough for him and Li Jinfang to enjoy two days in Moscow. It is said that one hasn’t really been to Moscow without visiting Red Square, so Gao Yang and Li Jinfang opened their eyes with a visit to Red Square and could at least say they’ve been to Moscow. After the three of them had a not-so-tasty lunch, it was already three in the afternoon. Feeling that it was about time, they took a taxi under Lao Liu’s guidance, heading straight for the address given by Glolov. As the taxi wound its way through the streets and entered a district, Gao Yang noticed that even in such a big city like Moscow, there were places that looked rundown, a stark contrast with the splendid colours of Red Square he had just seen; the area they were in now seemed to be comprised of only monotonous grey. The old Soviet buildings left behind looked very dilapidated, whether residential or commercial, all exhibited mottled walls. The only things that seemed to have some color were the graffitis on those broken walls. There were very few pedestrians on the street, and those that were seen hurried past. Everything here seemed out of place with the Moscow Gao Yang had just witnessed. The taxi stopped under a large, old building. After a few unintelligible exchanges with Lao Liu, the driver in the passenger seat turned around with a resigned look and said, “We haven’t reached our destination, but we must get out here. The taxi driver refuses to go any further, we have to walk. Thankfully, we’re not far from our destination now.”
