He needed to let go of the guilt he was feeling, but it was still stuck inside of him, and it also made a huge lump to form in his throat, it was really a hard pill to swallow.
He licked his lips over and over again, he was acting like a mad person. He didn't even know whether she was alive when he brought her to the hospital.
Even the doctors and nurses weren't helping him get any better, because they weren't saying anything to him while he stood outside.
They had been in the ER for far too long. He thought of bursting in there, to see what was going on for himself, since no one wanted to tell him anything.
But, he knew that would only make things worse, and also delay Hannah's treatment.
After waiting more than half an hour outside the ER, the doctor finally came out of the room.
"Is she okay now? Can I go and see her now? Tell me?" Zamiel kept bombarding them with too many questions, with his hands on the doctor's shoulder, shaking her vigorously.
"I'm sorry" Zamiel managed to take the hands of the doctor when he noticed that she was already scared of him.
"I really can't say if she is fine. But, she is alive. She is really trying her best to keep breathing. But, unfortunately her condition isn't stable yet.
We have to keep monitoring her, at most for the next 24 hours. If she doesn't wake up, she might go into a coma" The doctor broke the sad news to Zamiel, who at once staggered backward, looking so distorted.
He looked like he was going to faint any moment.
"You can go see her, but you will have to put on some certain clothes first, to avoid contamination," she added while trying her best to get a hold of his attention again.
"But, before I can let you go see her, I want to know what relationship you share with the patient.
I can't just let friends go see her in that kind of condition. I need somebody close to her, like maybe a family member or so??" The doctor talked and Zamiel raised his head to look at her.
What relationship was he going to tell her he shared with Hannah, that was going to make the doctor let him see her?
"I…I…I'm her fiance" he lied, as a surge of guilt flushed over him, but he was too desperate to see her.
"Really? How did this happen to her then…it seems like she had been abused brutally. Are you the monster behind such torture" the doctor had already become so suspicious of innocent Zamiel?
"What? No, I can't do that to her. I can never do that to any woman" Zamiel shook his head, peeping through the small round glass window on the door, if he could at least catch a glimpse of her.
"Then how did this happen to her??!!" The doctor shouted at him, thinking that the way he was shaking was out of guilt, not knowing it was pure fear for Hannah's life.
"I DON'T KNOW!!!.... I couldn't sleep, she wasn't picking up my calls, and I became so uneasy that I had to leave my house in the middle of the night.
In search of her, I even went as far as tracking her phone number down, and you are telling me that I did this!!" Zamiel barked at her, he had become frustrated.
Hannah's condition, coupled with the doctor's awkwardness, was irritating.
"We will just have to let the police decide that '' The doctor threatened, and stopped him from going anywhere close to the door.
"You are making a big mistake, I will get you fired, and make sure your license is revoked" He declared, and he wasn't going to go back on his word.
"Is that a threat?" She chuckled.
"I don't give threats. I make promises, of which I always fulfill'' Zamiel told her, and forced his way inside the ER, while he shut the door.
"The police are on their way, and you better not cause her any more harm!!!" The doctor shouted at him while trying to make him open the door.
He ignored everything she said, and walked up to Hannah.
There was nowhere to sit, so he knelt down beside her bed.
"Have you seen what they are doing to me because of you? I'm a prince and they are accusing me of abusing, and molesting you.
Why Hannah? Why didn't you listen to me? Why didn't you let me drop you off? Why?... It has barely been three good days since I came in contact with you again, and you are already troubling me. Is it fair?" Zamiel tried his best to talk to her calmly, but tears escaped from his eyes, as he wiped his tears.
"You gave me a sleepless night, I hope this will be the last one.
Because I can't take it, you teased me all day right? Please, open your eyes, talk to me, say something, say anything you want.
I promise, I won't shout at you or scare you again" he kept on pressurizing her, but she didn't say anything
She laid there, with her body motionless, and the rate of her heartbeat reducing.
"Officers, he is in there" he heard the doctor's voice from outside, and he wiped his eyes, shaking his head and rolling his eyes at the unnecessary drama she was creating.
Zamiel knew that she was just trying to protect Hannah, probably because she had seen many cases of abuse before, maybe she was a victim herself, but she was going about it the wrong way.
Zamiel brought out his phone and sent a text message to someone.
"Sir, we request you to come out humbly, or else…" the police officer spoke with a commanding voice.
Zamiel's POV
"I'm here '' I spoke to them, not letting the officer complete his statement, while I opened the door, not looking at the doctor for any reason.
"Let's go" I spoke again, and the officers were shocked at my corporation.
Maybe they were expecting me to resist or, I don't know, but I wasn't saying anything.
