“Guys, are you okay?” I asked, worried about their fight. I wonder what caused them to fight.
I knocked on the door as they both stilled when they looked at me. They looked at me as if I were a ghost. I tilt my head in confusion and asked,
"What happened? Why are you looking at me like this? Are you guys okay? Why are you yelling?" I asked softly, perplexed by their pale reaction.
“W-We were just talking. Don’t worry about it.” Adrian stammered, turning his head away.
“Are you sure?” I asked, entering the room.
"Yeah. It’s N-Nothing. Tell me, what brings you here, Brother?" Danielle almost stuttered, they both glared at each other and turned to me.
I sighed and began to say, "I need your help. Danielle, you are going to help me cook and to adorn the rooftop and Adrian, you are going to buy me candles and gonna make sure that Evelyn doesn't come upstairs."
“Sure.” They both said at the same time. They nodded as Danielle forced a grin.
"Oh, Trying to impress Evelyn. I'll also take care that Evelyn doesn't come. Leave that Double-Sided Guy." Danielle said in a venomous tone, emphasizing on her nickname.
She never does it. Are these two truly okay?
"Did you guys get in a fight?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.
"No!" They both shouted. I shrugged off my shoulders and left with Danielle.
Adrian POV:-
I came back from work, stressed and the moment I let myself fall on the soft comfy mattress, Danielle stormed in. What did I do now?
"What do you want, Chair? I am tired."
I let out a deep breath. I heard the creaking sound of the door being closed. I looked at her, She gave me an enraged look. Why is she closing the door?
"Evelyn liked you before her marriage, didn't she?" She said as I lost my senses. My eyes widened in shock as I quickly sat up and looked at her as she continued,
"You rejected her and later felt bad about it and were attracted to her and without being aware of it, you fell for her." She spoke about all the things I have never shared with anyone. I narrowed my eyes on her.
"Do you know what you are talking about? Evelyn is nothing but my sister in law. Okay, I agree that she used to like me but there is nothing between us." I spoke in an exasperated tone, sitting up instantly.
"She doesn't love you but what about you? I know you liked her!" She shouted as I immediately stood up and covered her mouth with my hand.
"Shut up! Anyone can hear." I whispered furiously. She calmed down a little as I got away from her.
“Why didn’t you speak up at the wedding?” She asked sorrowfully.
“None of you would be in this situation if you had opened this mouth before.” She snarled, outraged at me.
“My mind was not functioning at that time. I.. I didn’t know how it happened…” I stammered, turning my head away, expressing my only regret.
“You are such a coward, Adrian. You could have been in Lawrence’s place if you confessed earlier.” She hissed.
Rolling her eyes off, I felt my heart clenched, hurting to hear this.
I sighed and spoke up, telling her everything, "She loves-" I was cut off by Danielle.
"Loved." She corrected me as my heart ached at this. I nodded and continued,
"She loved me a lot and at that time I didn't consider dating her even once so I rejected her. I, then, began to feel things about her that I wasn't supposed to do. And I did fall for her…” I paused, earning a glare from her.
“And I was going to beg for her forgiveness and was about to ask my father for her hand in marriage but that whole ordeal happened and she got married to Lawrence. This happened because of me. If I accepted her feelings and told everyone about us then, she... leave it…” I sighed deeply, turning my head away.
“But, Now, She is nothing but my sister in law and I don't want to fall low in my own eyes just by that lascivious feeling. I don't want to deprave myself."
For the first time in my life, I have told anyone about my feelings. I never thought that it would be Danielle. I stared blankly at the floor as Danielle opened the door and said.
"I understand that. But remember one thing, If you ever lost yourself in your desires just like Brother and ruin his life. I'll kill you." She hissed as wrath took over me. This was the extent I could hear.
“Are you out of your mind?! Why would I?” I yelled, losing my patience with her.
“I don’t trust you. Who knows when your emotions would stumble?!” She shouted at me and I lost my ability to think. I was already distressed and she enhanced my fury.
"WHY WOULD I RUIN THEIR LIVES?! HOW CAN YOU THINK THIS!?" I yelled at her.
How can she? I am not like my brother. I am not short-tempered or chivalrous like him. We are different. I will never do such a thing. I am not the one who makes actions hastily.
"I AM ALSO NOT GOING TO LET THIS HAPPEN!" She yelled back. I was about to open my mouth to retort back but brother came.
We both felt stiff when we heard his voice. I deeply hoped that he didn't hear what I had just said. He'll kill me if he finds out. We both gulped but thank God, he didn't get to know about a single thing.
Then, Danielle deliberately called me 'Double-Sided'. I grit my teeth in anger and left to buy the candles my brother asked me with unwanted grievous sensations brimming in my chest...
..I don't love her.. And I never will... I will never fall this low..
