Dumbledore, with a calm face and gentle breathing, looked up, watching the rushing black smoke land and transform into Hogwarts’ Professor of Potions dressed in a black robe.
"I thought you would leave a few alive." Snape spoke in a low voice, the area filled with the pungent smell of smoke and scorched air, making him frown and cover his nose.
"Riddle was so urgent, sending these people to die to stall me, the thing he’s looking for?" Dumbledore’s gaze fell on Snape’s empty hands.
He was clearly well aware of what occurred at Hogwarts before.
"The thing should be lost, Ronnie Ehrlich might have taken it before dying... or it could be with Little Grindelwald." Snape’s eyes constantly focused on the dozen Death Eater corpses.
The bodies’ charred and twisted forms made them unrecognizable in life. Although Snape was prepared mentally, he was deeply shocked by the scene.
This was a terrifying and ruthless picture, the fragility of life and the destructive impact of magic making him, the sole witness, once again feel Dumbledore’s strength.
"If the thing wasn’t lost, Riddle wouldn’t have been in such haste." Dumbledore nodded with an unchanged expression, then asked Snape again.
"Do you know what he’s searching for?" Snape had a strong intuition that Voldemort’s item might be with Ian, yet he didn’t dare mention it to Dumbledore.
This was no longer the Dumbledore he knew, until he figured out what happened with Dumbledore, he had lost trust in him.
"I have some guesses, back when he hadn’t gone mad, he returned to ask me a favor, perhaps during that return when I refused him, he took the chance to hide something very important at Hogwarts." Dumbledore stared at Snape.
