Rose eagerly awaited the arrival of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Tommaso, who was traveling all the way from Italy to visit her in Canada. As the day arrived, Rose's excitement filled her heart, hoping for a pleasant and memorable time together.
It's been a long time since she felt any motherly affection in her life. Yes, Anna was there for her, but she considered her a friend more than a mother.
