I think that what Vera told me was a sign of what I should do. That very night, I decided to call my Mom. I used my old phone and dialed her number. Vera had a point, I have been running away from my problem and that wasn't a good thing to do. I need to step up and handle this once and for all. Besides, I also missed my Mom, if I wasn't afraid of what dad would say to me about how wrong it was to marry Wade instead of that old man, then I would have run to her the moment that my heart got broken but knowing Dad, he would just yell and point a finger at me. I wasn't up for that at that time. I wanted sympathy and he won't let me have that with Mom. I waited for her to pick up and as soon as she did, I felt the longing. I miss her so much. I felt like I haven't seen her in a long time.
"Camierre!" She said on the other line. "Oh my God! You child! What happened to you?"
"Mom," I said softly. "Just hearing her voice makes me so emotional,"
"How are you? Why did you just disappear?" She said. "We were so worried about you. Oh, God! Thank God you called! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine Mom," I said. "I'm sorry I left without telling you; I was just trying to think about a couple of things."
"Wade came here yesterday. He said that you and he had an argument a few days back and that is why you left but he also said that we shouldn't worry anymore because he knew where you were and that he would keep an eye on you." She said.
"He did that?" I said.
"Yes, why? He was so eager to see you. You shouldn't leave your husband like that, you know." She said. "Did you two met there already?"
"Yeah, Uhm, we did Mom," I said. "He was here last night. We talked already."
"Oh dear, whatever it is that you two fought about, you shouldn't run away like that. Wade looked for you all over the place and even us; we looked for you everywhere." She said. "We were all worried!"
"I'm sorry Mom, I know I should have called," I said.
"You knew but you didn't," She said.
"I know; that's why I said I'm sorry," I said. "I miss you so much, Mom,"
"I missed you too, Cam," She said. "Please come home already,"
"Yes Mom; I am coming home soon," I said as a tear fell down my cheeks. "I already know what I have to do. I'm sorry if it took me days to figure this out."
"Really? That's great! I'm glad you and Wade fixed things already. I would be very sad and disappointed if you didn't." She said. Wait! She has it all wrong. "You and Wade are just perfect for each other."
"No, Mom-" I said but she cut me off. Tears were now falling nonstop on my cheeks. I heard how happy she was thinking that Wade and I mend things up already. I wished things were as easy as that but in reality, it isn't. Life is hard and so should we.
"So, when are you guys coming home? You should come here directly and I'll prepare something for us." She said. "I am really really happy for the both of you, Dear. May your marriage last a lifetime."
"Mom, it's not like that-" I said but she cut me off again. I shut my eyes tightly. She really got the wrong idea!
"Of course, how silly of me," She said. "How can I intrude, right? I know you have a lot of catching up and making up to do with your husband so I'll let you be but please do visit us anytime soon, okay? I will wait for you and I hope I'll have a grandchild soon."
I sighed. She sounded so happy and I can't just pop the bubble on her. I would just have to let this one slide for now. "I'll be there soon, Mom," I said.
"And don't forget to bring Wade with you, okay? I'd be disappointed he won't come." She said. "I want to thank him for finding you and making us at ease. I'll prepare dinner for all of us. You can even invite Erin over if you want. I haven't seen her in a while too."
Well, it looks like I just have to talk to her in person so she can let me speak for myself. It seems like she has grown fond of my fake husband.
"How about Dad? Is he okay?" I said to change the topic. "Is he there with you?"
"Your Dad?" She said. "He's fine. He's still not home yet. He said he had a dinner meeting and would be home late. Don't worry; I'll tell him that you called and that you're coming home very soon. I'm sure he'll be very happy to hear it."
"Alright Mom," I said. "Anyway, I have to go. I'll see you soon. Bye!"
I said and ended the call. Wow, that didn't turn out the way I thought it would be. I lay down on the bed and thought of a lot of things. What would I tell my parents? Will I tell them that Wade played on me? Oh no, that would break my Mom's heart and I do not have the heart to do that. If I tell them what happened, Dad's past would submerge again. I don't want that to happen; that would hurt my Mom so much. I know that Vera said that the truth would set me free but I can't do that to my Mom if the truth would kill her every day. Dad had an affair before and she would be paranoid if she finds out about Riley's mom. Although I still don't know the whole story, I bet that what Dad did to that woman was ruthless for her to lose her mind.
What are my options here? If I don't tell them then I would have to stay with Wade and act as if we were still okay. That would be a huge punishment for me. I can't be with him anymore without hurting as his mere presence is inflicting pain on me. Seeing him would make me feel how a fool I was for that I trusted him without knowing him first. I can't look at him without remembering what he did to me. I can't stand being in the same room as him. I cannot do anything with him anymore. I can't do this! But what choice do I have? I have none!
