Jessica Rubbed Her Bulged Stomach Softly. She Was Feeling Slight Discomfort These Days. She Sighed As She Caressed The Stomach.
While She Typed Furiously On The Laptop Before Her, She Suddenly Felt A Sharp Pain In Her Lower Region.
"Ah." She Gasped Aloud. She Felt The Water Burst And Soak Her Clothes. Luckily, She Was Wearing A Dark-colored Dress So It Wasn't Going To Be Very Obvious.
She Quickly Called For Angie To Come. Angie Wasted No Time In Arriving At The Scene. She Saw Jessica's Condition.
"Breathe Baby." She Encouraged Her. Jessica Felt The Sharp Pain Increase And She Yelped.
Angie Tried To Calm Her Down. She Quickly Dialed Gary's Number, Who Had Been In Florida For Two Weeks.
"Hello? It's Angie."
"Oh. Hey, What's Up? How Is Jessica Doing?"
"Uh, She's In Labor Right Now." Angie Said Hurriedly.
She Could Hear Rustling From The Other End. It Was Obvious Gary Was Hurrying As Well. "I'm On My Way."
Angie Ended The Call. She Took Jessica To The Parking Lot. They Moved Very Slowly, And By The Time They Were Reaching, Gary Was Also Arriving In His Car. He Parked Right At The Entrance While Angie Helped Jessica Into The Car.
"Breath Baby, Just Take Deep Breaths." Angie Encouraged Her. "Take A Deep Breath In Alright..."
Jessica Was Gasping. She Took Very Deep Breaths And Exhaled Softly.
"Angie..." Jessica Wailed. "Call Mom."
Angie Fumbled With The Phone. When She Finally Stabilized It, They Arrived At The Hospital. Gary Ran In To Call For A Stretcher. He Ran Out Almost Immediately With Nurses Hot On His Tail. He Carried Jessica And Placed Her Carefully On The Stretcher. The Nurses Wheeled Her Inside The Theatre Immediately. Gary Waited In The Hallway. His Heart Was Racing In His Chest. Despite Knowing He Was Not The Father Of The Kids, He Was Still Worried For Their Safety. He Loved Jessica That Much.
Angie Finally Reached Jessica's Mom. She Informed Her Of Jessica's Travails. The Woman Was Ready To Arrive Immediately. Angie Went In To Meet Gary Who Was Also Pacing. Together, They Waited For Jessica To Return From The Theatre, Praying For Her To Be Fine.
About An Hour Later, The Nurses Came Out With The Children. Angie Sprang Up From Her Seat And Charged Toward The Nurses.
"Jessica's? Twins? Oh!" She Celebrated. She Followed The Nurses As They Went, Staring Into The Clothes.
"Ma'am, We Would Just Clean Them Up And Return Them To You. Your Friend Will Be Out Soon!" The Nurse Said On A Light Note. She Totally Understood Angie's Plight.
Angie Nodded And Returned To Where Gary Stood With A Wide Smile. A Few Minutes Later, Jessica Was Wheeled Out Of The Theater Room Into A Regular Ward. Angie And Gary Followed The Nurses As They Wheeled Her In. Once They Made Sure She Was Fine, They Left Her With Angie And Gary.
"Baby, You Did It! You Did It!" Angie Whispered. There Were Tears In Her Eyes. Jessica Was Weak But She Was Full Of Joy. She Looked Around, Gary's Smiling Face Wasn't Far Behind.
"You Came." She Muttered.
Gary Smiled Even Wider. "Of Course, I Would Come. Do You Think It Would Take Only Angie To Bring A Shouting Match To The Hospital?"
The Two Women Laughed At Gary's Comment. Just Then, The Nurses Returned With The Babies. The Boy Was Wrapped In A Blue Cloth, While The Girl Was Wrapped In A Pink Cloth.
"Give Me The Girl!" Angie Squealed Happily.
"Angie! Don't Scream Around Them, Their Ears Are Still Sensitive." Jessica Scolded. "Give Me My Son."
The Nurse Put The Child In Her Arms As Well. She Looked At Her Boy's Face. Her Eyes Were Welled With Tears.
"He's So Pretty!" She Whispered. "Let Me See Her." She Turned To Angie. Angie Placed The Other Child Beside Her As Well.
Jessica Gasped. "Oh My Gosh, My Babies Are Beautiful!" She Sobbed Lightly. Somehow She Wished Their Father Was There And Not Two Other People.
Her Mother Entered The Ward. Straight To Jessica's Bed. She Touched The Girl's Cheek. Jessica, Who Was Already Feeling A Bit Sleepy, Woke Up To The Familiar Touch. When Her Gaze Became Focused, She Widened Her Eyes.
"Mom!"
"My Baby! You Did So Well, I'm Super Proud Of You. I'm Sorry I Didn't Come Earlier. I Didn't Think You Would Be Birthing Today Or Even This Week At All."
"I Don't Care, I'm Just Happy You're Here."
The Woman Peeked Into The Cribs Where The Children Slept Peacefully. Her Hand Automatically Moved Towards Her Heart.
"Jessy, These Babies Are So Pretty! I Remember When You Were This Tiny." She Giggled. Passing Her Hand Through The Little Opening, She Caressed Their Cheeks One After The Other.
"How Long Will You Be Staying Here?"
"Uh.. The Doctors Said My Babies And I Are Doing Well Already, And If We Maintain It, We Could Go Home Tomorrow."
Her Mother Smiled. "That's Just Beautiful."
There Was Silence. Jessica Was Drowned In Thought While Her Mother Watched Her Helplessly.
"You Did A Great Job, Jessica. I'm Sorry I Wasn't Able To Come And Hold Your Hand Through The Journey. Especially Since It's Your First, And Their Father Is… Absent."
"Mom." Jessica Groaned Lightly. "How Is Dad Doing? His Health And Everything?"
"He Is Doing Fine. The Twins Are Also Doing Fine. They Were All Excited And Edgy When I Said You Were In Labor."
Jessica Giggled. "I Bet They Were. Kristen Must Have Made A Face First, Before Finally Asking How It Worked, Yeah?"
The Woman Laughed. "You Know Your Little Sister So Well. They All Miss You At Home."
"I Miss Them Too. And I Will Return Soon."
"What About Angie? I Was Hoping To Meet Her When I Came?"
"Oh, She Went To Get Food For Me. The Doctors Said I Had To Eat A Lot If I Wanted To Successfully Feed Them, 'cause they're two."
"Yes. I'm here to assist you with that." Her mother grabbed her hand, caressing it softly. "Can't believe I'm a grandma now."
Jessica laughed. "Oh, mom. I'm still recovering, stop making me laugh so much! You literally gushed all over them and you're just remembering you're a grandma now?" She laughed even more.
"Oh, don't make fun of me. Do you see how cute they are? It reminds me of your siblings. When I had them, they were this cute. Only they didn't stay so close to each other."
The mother and daughter duo continued gossiping about the twins and laughing about it.
