Rita’s POV
Coincidentally, Evelyn and I alighted in front of the company, we walked into our office together only to find a bouquet on my own desk.
“Who dropped this?” I faced Evelyn.
“How would you expect me to know? We are just arriving” Evelyn responded.
“So who dropped these flowers on my desk?” I asked no one in particular. I was surprised because I barely associated with the other staffs in here, so who could it be.
“Maybe it was Adam, maybe he dropped it for me” Evelyn said.
“I found it on my desk, your desk is next. Adam wouldn’t make such a mistake” I shunned and she frowned a little.
“Last time I checked you do not have a boyfriend in this office”
“Evelyn, they are just flowers. It could come from anyone, a secret admirer maybe”
Just then, Adam walked into our office.
“Hey guys, when did you arrive? I have been expecting you” He said. “Hi babe” He hugged his girlfriend, pecking her all over, making her giggle dramatically.
“Okay guys, do you realize that I am not invisible?” I announced, they disengaged and chuckled.
“Rita, found these flowers on her table, did you drop them for me?” Evelyn asked Adam.
“Flowers. No, I didn’t leave any flowers” He answered.
“Oh then, I guess the bouquet is mine” I carried them and blushed secretly because I guessed the flowers were from Finn.
Finn is romantic and I think this is his small way of apologizing to me for suddenly being weird, maybe he wants us to get back together. I remember he also gave me some flowers at my parents place after disappointing me.
“I think I know who gave me this bouquet ” I smiled and sat down.
“Uhm who?” Evelyn inquired.
“I told you, a secret admirer, who else?”
“Hmmmn” Adam hummed like he knew who I was referring to.
“And come to think of it, your main boyfriend Zane never sent you parcels, packages, talk more of ordinary flowers” Evelyn teased but it startled me.
Gift! another love language it is, I never got gifts from Zane nor little funds for up keeping. I wasn’t lacking neither did I ever ever request anything at all from him because I am not a gold digger but little gifts that comes from the heart matters way more than the sentence ‘ I love you’
“Maybe he doesn’t have ..” I answered, rolling my eyes.
I didn’t feel bad that Evelyn literally just mocked my boyfriend after all, she was right, even though Zane was absent, he never ever waybilled parcels or gift items while Finn, whom I never even dated, showered me with more love, offered me a good job with increased salary, he took me out on a dinner date. Finn wasn’t a random guy to me neither was Zane a bad guy, he could at least be like Finn and other romantic guys.
“Maybe my boyfriend doesn’t have anything to offer” I repeated myself.
“I cannot believe you are saying this ” Adam stated.
“Ugh! It’s true, Zane never sent me gift items, maybe he is broke or he doesn’t have” I didn’t feel remorseful one bit.
Even Evelyn who brought up the topic of discussion only to pull my legs was very shocked that I admitted unrepentantly.
They stared at eachother like I was out of my senses.
“And announcement everyone, I am not traveling to Canada anymore” I said.
“Why not?” They asked simultaneously.
“Zane said he’s occupied, he has a business trip to the Netherlands or somewhere, wheresoever “ I answered perfunctorily.
“Maybe you could visit him once he is back” Evelyn suggested
“No, never. I will travel nowhere but wait here till he returns, even if it takes the return of Jesus Christ” I sighed.
“What’s going on here? What do you mean?” Adam folded his arms, inquisitively.
“I think something is wrong between her and her boyfriend” Evelyn presumed “Or did you guys break up already?” She confronted me.
“No” I blurted. “We are together and not together, that’s how our relationship has always been” I responded sheepishly.
“You and Zane might break up soon. We spew out nonsense, what we actually do not mean whenever we are quarreling. Talk to me Rita” Evelyn said empathically as she drew a seat forward and sat next to me.
I took a deep breath in and out.
“I am only over reacting, Zane and I didn’t quarrel” I told them.
“Then what exactly happened? Why are you making a fuss?” Adam asked.
“Nowadays, Zane is being un-understandable, I am tryna be patient with him, I want us to fix things despite all odds, despite his flaws. I know I am also not a perfect girlfriend but I am tryna be one” I kept on starting a new statement without completing the other, I didn’t know how to explain.
“You are truly overreacting like you’ve admitted, I don’t get your point; is it because you don’t get all you want from Zane?” Evelyn questioned.
“I don’t know, I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I don’t what’s wrong with us; actually, nothing is wrong with us. Today I’m beginning to get fed up of the relationship, another day I am obsessed with him, I don’t know” I said.
“Break up with Zane already, I think you should take a break” Adam suddenly uttered.
“Wtf Adam, that’s not a good advice,” Evelyn snapped and patted my back gently. “Your boyfriend must be a great guy, I’m sure there’s a reason for every action he is taken that’s making you feel fed up of the relationship”
“It’s not him, it’s me”
“Will you endure till you're sure of what your heart is saying?” She asked.
“I have no choice, I still love him somehow”
“Huh?!” She looked at me and shook her head. “I’m confused please”
I smiled in a weird way.
“You don’t know what’s wrong with you, you don’t know what you want” She gave a eye roll and returned to her seat.
I laughed out loud in a weird manner.
“You had better talk to a therapist or your Mrs Johnson wherever”
“Be fine okay? See you guys later” Adam exited.
Only Adam understood how I was feeling,
I huffed deeply and tried to look my best by putting on a smile and changing the topic.
“The flowers are beautiful” I sniffed it in “And they smell nice too” I gently placed them into a side glassy vase and resumed the day activities.
