Chapter 89: Chapter 089 Crystal Lake Drowning Incident
“I’ve been thinking about something for a long time, but I never knew how to bring it up.”

Roger couldn’t help but sit up straight.
The attitude of the red-haired girl in front of him made him overthink.
“I promised someone that I wouldn’t talk about it to others, but I have some doubts in my heart.”

Roger always felt that Amanda had become very strange after returning from Swamp Town, but if Amanda didn’t say anything, there’s only so much he could help.
Girl, you just missed a perfect opportunity. If you had confessed, ah… how could I have had the heart to reject you?
Amanda nodded thoughtfully, her eyes gradually becoming firm; she seemed to have made her decision.
“You really are my best friend!”
Roger laughed awkwardly, escorting Amanda out of the room.
“Are you done talking?”
Adeline came over with a tray, “I even prepared some desserts for you…”
Seeing the smile on Adeline’s face, Roger inexplicably felt a bit guilty. Eating their food, staying at their place, now did he really want to sleep with her too…?

Adeline pulled out a few banknotes and placed them in Roger’s hands.

Early the next morning, Henrik sent a package to Roger with some basic information about the mission.
Roger took a seat in a secluded corner on the school bus and started flipping through the documents.
“The Crystal Lake Drowning Incident.”
Seeing this name, Roger couldn’t help but curl his lip, “Should I buy a mask to fit the occasion?”
Crystal Lake was located to the east of Swamp Town, a vast stretch of lakes that were serene and clear as crystal, hence the name.
The lake area was large and divided into several sections, and the recent drowning incidents had all occurred nearby.
The first victim was a high school student named Judd, who tragically drowned while playing with his girlfriend on Crystal Lake.
According to his girlfriend’s recollection afterward, something seemed to grab Judd’s hands and feet as he fell into the water; he struggled desperately and almost even dragged his girlfriend into the water with him who came to rescue him.
It felt like something underneath was constantly pulling at him.
Judd had been a member of the school’s swim team and, while not outstanding, certainly not an accident due to poor swimming skills.
The second victim was named Travis, and he was a student from another high school in Swamp Town.
Due to particular historical reasons, the town’s children did not attend the same high school; the Black ethnicity residents left by Faku attended one high school, and the others, primarily White, attended another.
This was not due to local government racial discrimination but because of historical issues, the local Black residents had many customs dating from tribal times.
To preserve customs without causing unnecessary trouble, the local government specially funded the construction of two schools.
Normally, there would be occasional exchanges between the two high schools.
The high school that Roger and his group were heading to was the predominantly White one.
Travis, the deceased, was Black.
The third victim was named Allen, and there seemed to be nothing special about him from the documents; he drowned while camping with a group of friends by the lake.
According to the police records, they found some strong liquor and smoked marijuana on the small boat from which Allen fell.
Therefore, the police initially ruled it an accident.
Roger was engrossed in reading when he suddenly heard a cautious voice.
The girl’s face flashed with unease; she always felt that Roger’s name was somewhat too… embarrassing.
Roger closed the documents in his hands as if nothing happened and looked up at the girl standing in the aisle.
“What are you doing here?”
The girl’s face showed a hint of discomfort as she was eyed by Roger, “That question should be for you to answer.”
“I used to be a member of the school band, just took a break for a while, and now I’ve picked it up again.”
“As for you, you only transferred a few days ago, when did you join the team?”
Roger laughed but did not answer her question.
“Is there something you need from me?”
“About that day, thank you!” Kelly said.
“I was once involved with Nick for a while. Back then, I was naive and took many indecent photos, so he used that to blackmail me.”
“If it weren’t for you, I probably would never be able to get rid of him.”
Kelly’s eyes were sincere, contrasting greatly with her earlier attempts to seduce Roger.
Roger’s face revealed understanding; he finally realized where the excitement on Kelly’s face during the photo shoot originated.
“It was a small matter,” Roger waved his hand dismissively, “If there’s nothing else, I’d like to be alone for a while.”
Girl, I’m busy with a mission right now.
Rejected by Roger, Kelly wasn’t angry; she leaned forward, bending at the waist.
“Once we get to Swamp Town, maybe we can have an honest chat.”
She gave Roger a knowing wink.
“It would be the purest form of interaction!”
