Demon Hunter and His Cabin Chapter 83

Chapter 85: Chapter 85 Part-Time Jobs “What have you been up to lately?” “I don’t know what’s going on recently, but there have been a string of strange events. Meet me at the entrance of the park in Baytown tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock,” Henrik said in a rush. “I still have a battle going on here, we’ll talk tomorrow!” After that, he hung up the phone. Roger didn’t think much of it; after two consecutive battles in one night, he too was feeling tired. Just as he was about to rest, he suddenly noticed that the model of the cabin in his consciousness was emitting a faint glow. “Beast Attack has been completed.” This was the prompt he had received just a moment ago, but Roger had been so focused on the upgraded cabin that he hadn’t noticed it. He opened it up to check and saw that the task’s reward was a Beast Cutting Blade, but no matter how he looked at it, he couldn’t find where to claim this weapon. After studying it carefully, Roger figured out what was going on. He took out the dagger Henrik had given him and ran his hand over the blade, which emitted a brief glow. It seemed that the dagger had undergone some changes. Sharp Dagger: A high-quality weapon that has been repeatedly tempered, with mysterious powers infused within it. Beast Cutting: This dagger increases damage to beasts during attacks and enhances sharpness when dissecting corpses, preserving the most Alchemy Materials possible. “That’s quite a practical feature,” Roger had been worried about future weapon issues, but now it seemed the Hunter’s Cabin came with comprehensive functions. Although it couldn’t conjure weapons out of thin air, it could infuse them with special energies. This allowed a weapon to undergo a qualitative change! “When should I upgrade my Steel Sword?” Thinking of the wide variety of weapons with their different powers in the game, Roger was itching to give it a try. Besides, the billboard reminded him that Anna’s character card had been updated. Roger casually opened it, and Anna’s figure on the card had become much clearer. However, the mist behind her had grown thicker. Apart from the vaguely discernible graveyard, it seemed possible to see other buildings as well. Roger found it odd; his friendship level with Anna had unexpectedly risen from Indifferent to Amicable, crossing several levels without him knowing. “Women, these creatures, are not only unpredictable in life, but even in death, they make no sense.” “Could it be just because I’ve talked to her a few times?” Roger thought silently. “It seems I should work on making my presence felt when I can.” He made up his mind that in the future, when visiting the cabin at night, he must not just focus on practicing Alchemy. He should at least spend half an hour chatting with Anna. For now, his relationship with his neighbor Anna seemed okay, and Anna herself appeared quite mysterious. Perhaps there would be unexpected rewards once the friendship level increased. Anne’s attitude towards him hadn’t changed at all since the beginning; without the character card, Roger would not have known that their relationship had reached the level of Amicable. No longer thinking about other matters, Roger lay on the bed and soon fell into a dozy sleep. The next day dawned with clear skies. The Murloc Festival activities in Baytown were almost at an end, with the long vacation coming to a close and the tourists gradually leaving the town. After breakfast, Roger specifically looked up some oboe practice videos online, got a rough idea, and seeing that the time was about right, he grabbed his instrument case and headed for the park entrance. But he waited until 10:30, a full hour, without seeing Henrik’s figure. He called several times during that period, but nobody answered. Just as Roger was getting impatient, Henrik’s car finally arrived late. Henrik yawned endlessly. “It’s already 11 o’clock,” “It’s almost noon, are you going to treat me to lunch?” Henrik posed like a dead fish. He looked utterly exhausted. “What were you doing last night?” Roger couldn’t help but complain as he casually opened the passenger door. “Don’t even mention it, last night three female ghosts tangled with me all night long.” Henrik rubbed his lower back. “Empty every bullet in the gun.” As he spoke, a strange smile spread across his lips. That kind of smile had often appeared on Thomas’s face since he returned from Swamp Town. Not to mention anything else, but with that libertine spirit, he looked very much the part of a Demon Hunter. “Where are we going?” “If it’s a long drive, do you want to rest while I drive?” Upon hearing what Roger said, Henrik instantly perked up, “No need for that.” And then he started the car. “You did a good job with the last assignment, avoiding a big problem just in time.” Henrik drove to a nearby restaurant. He pulled out an envelope and handed it to Roger. “This is what you’ve earned.” “There’s something else…” “I need to ask for your opinion.” Roger didn’t even check how much money was in the envelope; he simply pocketed it. Henrik’s face turned solemn. “Interested in becoming a real Demon Hunter?” Roger cracked a smile, “Aren’t I already one?” A guess began to form in his mind. “Hey, Roger, I’m not joking with you.” “I don’t know what’s going on lately, but accidents have been happening frequently in Bordeaux City and the surrounding towns—the area is too large for me to handle alone.” Henrik took a sip of coffee. “So are you interested in becoming a part-time Demon Hunter?” “Part-time?” Roger looked confused. “To be honest, it’s against the rules to do this, but with the current emergency situation, regular Demon Hunters require systematic training, and we are now facing some issues, with manpower also tight within the guild.” “Under these circumstances, I had to try and find some additional help, and there are no suitable Demon Hunter families around here.” “I’ve worked with you on two occasions and have a lot of faith in you, so I thought about recommending you to temporarily join us and become a provisional Demon Hunter.” “I’ll assign you some relatively simple and non-dangerous tasks, and you’ll get a certain salary after the task is completed.” “Of course, during this period, you can also enjoy some of the benefits and assistance from within the Hunters Guild.” “Isn’t that just temporary work?” Roger understood Henrik’s meaning. He could access the Hunters Guild’s information network, while also avoiding too much interaction that might lead to his secrets being discovered. The problem that troubled Roger yesterday now seemed to be effortlessly resolved. “What do I need to do?” Although he was already favorably considering the offer, Roger did not immediately agree, instead cautiously asking. “It’s really simple. You can basically see yourself as a mercenary; we pay, you do the job.” “Of course, in the process, you have to keep your poise. We’re Demon Hunters, not thugs.” “Our job is to solve problems, not create disasters.” After a moment’s contemplation, Roger slowly nodded his head. “Alright, I’ll join!”
