Chapter 71: Chapter 071 Bewitching
“We need to be fast, I’m not a professional Spirit Medium, I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold on for much longer.”
Henrik walked briskly towards the car.
“That Hannam is not a true Transcendent. He can’t use Voodoo Skill through his own power. To perform the ritual, he needs to use his own blood as a catalyst, which establishes a mysterious connection between him and the voodoo doll.”
“And that’s exactly why I can find him.”
“I must concentrate fully to maintain this connection; the driving is up to you!”
The swamp was pitch-black with no streetlights, and the roads were complicated. It was nearly impossible to speed through them in the darkness.
After a brief hesitation, Roger quietly took out a small bottle and, while Henrik wasn’t looking, tossed it back.
A few seconds later, Roger slowly opened his eyes, which flickered with an imperceptible stream of light. His pitch-black pupils contracted, looking quite eerie.
He buckled up, started the car, pressed the gas pedal to the floor, and the car quickly accelerated!
“Are you trying to get us killed?!”
Henrik, scared stiff, felt his hair stand on end. His emotions fluctuated so wildly that he nearly severed the mysterious connection in his mind.
The howling night wind poured in through the car window, causing Henrik to shiver. As the scenery zoomed by and the numbers on the speedometer climbed, he felt dizzy.
“I’m not going to be the first Demon Hunter to die in a car crash, am I?”
“And driving without a license!”
“Why did I believe his nonsense!”
Driving fast during the day was one thing, but at night, with extremely low visibility, the encroaching darkness felt like a wall squeezing in, causing even Henrik to feel uneasy.
His physical condition was indeed far superior to an ordinary person, and his reaction speed was almost at the limit, but even so, a collision would still result in death!
“Navigate for me, which way now!”
Roger’s calm voice came from the driver’s seat.
Henrik sat tense against the seat, silently vowing that if he survived this ordeal, he would never let Roger drive again.
Fifteen minutes later, the car gently pulled over to the side of the road. In the distance amongst the trees, an abandoned farm emerged faintly.
Henrik scrambled out of the car as if escaping, and not until his feet touched the ground did his heart finally settle.
“I’m actually alive? Thank heavens!”
“We’re not far from Bedlam.”
“This guy was really prepared.”
Roger said in a deep voice.
“It’s dead silent around here. If Hannam is still here, the sound of the car engine definitely wouldn’t escape his ears. We need to be cautious from here on out.”
Henrik took out his pistol and cautiously walked toward the distant farm.
That was where the ritual had last led him.
“How are you feeling?” Having taken the Night Cat Potion, Roger could clearly see the sweat-soaked back of Henrik not far away.
Henrik took a deep breath.
“Nothing serious, my mental strength is insufficient to initiate the ritual we went through. I took some Potions to unlock potential, but it’s only temporary,”
He lifted the gun in his hand, “Once we find Hannam, all I have to do is pull the trigger, and it will all be over.”
“Are you sure?” Roger was concerned. As he hesitated, he saw Henrik’s figure flash, darting closer to the farm at high speed.
At the same time, a figure in the dark room inside the farm, who was packing up, suddenly stopped.
He was startled, “Did these two guys ride a rocket or what?”
Although the distance from his location to the Bedlam wasn’t too far, the road was complex, and it being night, driving there in 40 minutes was considered fast.
But how much time had passed?
Since Henrik began the ritual, an indistinct sensation had tugged at Hannam’s nerves. He realized it instantly and started packing his belongings, everything was still manageable then.
But who would have thought, before even half the time had passed, they had already found him.
A cold laugh came through the darkness.
“Do you really think I’m scared of you?”
“If I can’t escape, then I’ll feed my precious ones with your two souls!”
No sooner had he spoken than a pitch-black ghostly figure appeared by his side.
It was a slender woman with long hair spilling over her shoulders, obscuring her face. Her nightgown was smeared with blood, hands hanging past her knees, her fingertips glowing with a green light.
Even more horrifying was that her abdomen was prominently swollen, and from within it, one could faintly hear the cries of a child.
“Quiet down, my precious ones, you must be hungry, right? Don’t worry, you’ll soon have a full meal!”
After speaking, he opened the door and his figure gradually disappeared into the darkness.
Roger gripped the dagger in his hand, the blade smeared with a potion given to him by Henrik.
The two exchanged glances, but before they could open the door, a loud noise came through. The wooden door had been ripped open from inside, like the gaping mouth of a beast in the darkness!
It was clear that Hannam not only knew they had arrived here but even knew their exact location.
“Be careful, let’s go in!”
Of course, there was no way to wait like sitting ducks as they had at the manor. Hannam could escape at any moment, and now the enemy lay hidden in the shadows while Roger and his companion were exposed and at a disadvantage.
The darkness couldn’t block Roger’s vision. He peeked out, then with his legs powering him forward, dashed swiftly into the room, and at the same time, Henrik also leaped in after him.
Henrik muttered a curse. From the outside, nothing seemed amiss, but now inside the room, they discovered the entire farmhouse was sealed off; the exterior light couldn’t penetrate through.
Roger took out the Night Cat Potion. Although it was a bit complicated to explain, Henrik had been good to him, and he didn’t want his companion to come to harm.
But just then, a jet-black ghostly figure suddenly appeared midair. Her bloodstained nightgown fluttered, and her claws, glowing green, rose high, violently piercing towards Henrik!
Roger’s face turned pale, with no time for hesitation, he lunged forward with a quick step and directed a rapid stab with his dagger!
But at that moment, the pocket watch he kept close to his body started trembling wildly, and a flash of spiritual light crossed his mind, “Duck!”
Roger shouted loudly.
Hannam controlled an evil spirit, incapable of physical attack just yet; his previous move was merely to lure Roger, the real purpose was…
Henrik swiftly turned around, his hands clamping down on Roger’s wrist like iron tongs.
Cold sweat instantly streamed down his forehead.
If it weren’t for Henrik’s timely reaction and his own restraint, the dagger would probably have pierced through Henrik’s back just now.
“Is this the work of an Evil Spirit?”
“Truly an expert in manipulating people’s hearts.”
Roger said, somewhat shaken.
