Chapter 51: Chapter 051 Sherman Manor
Roger asked curiously.
“It’s a cruel Transformation Ceremony. I’ve read about similar cases in the archives of the branch. Through the guidance of blood, those involved in the ceremony offer up their souls unknowingly.”
“The ceremony stirs up the ferocity of the nearby wild beasts, making them extremely aggressive. Those killed by them have parts of their souls absorbed, becoming a part of the spellcaster’s power.”
Henrik glanced at Roger, “According to your story, it should be that guy who provided the mysticism pages.”
“Although the most basic mysticism ceremonies are indeed accessible, they’re not something a few high school students can perform.”
“The most crucial step of the entire ceremony is already complete, all that’s left is the blood guidance, and those items placed around are just tedious deceptions.”
Henrik appeared somewhat disdainful.
Roger furrowed his brow. He trusted Henrik’s expertise, but he still felt like there were some things that didn’t add up.
Deep down, Roger had almost pinpointed Sherman, but he couldn’t tell Henrik about the killing in the woods, not to mention being followed.
And in this ceremony, Bob was a participant, even if Roger had prepared a potion that could repel the Bloodthirsty Beast for Bob beforehand, there was no need to involve his own son in such matters.
Roger was pondering how to steer Henrik’s investigation towards Sherman, when he heard Henrik continue to analyze.
“To reasonably absorb the Soul Shards of the deceased, the spellcaster must be a significant component in the ceremony, either he directly participated in a Blood Oath.”
“Or… he is a blood relative of the participants!”
Henrik declared emphatically.
“Excluding the one who died, and your girl, that leaves only three targets.”
Henrik’s gaze was resolute. In that moment, he seemed far more reliable than his usual carefree self.
“Betty… that black girl. Judging from the records, she seems to have some… relationship, unlikely a possibility.”
Henrik murmured a few words under his breath.
“Bob and that girl named Lucy, they are the most suspicious!”
“What should we do next to pinpoint the target?”
Henrik’s efficiency far surpassed his own.
“Pinpoint the target?”
“Why pinpoint the target?” Henrik asked in return.
“Kid, with the analysis getting to this point, this matter is basically resolved.”
“For the remaining two targets, just investigate them one by one.”
Henrik waved his hand, “Come on, follow me!”
Roger wanted to say he still had classes tomorrow, but judging by Henrik’s attitude, he was unlikely to listen.
Most importantly, he was very curious.
Having the rare opportunity to be involved with a real Demon Hunter, he naturally didn’t want to miss it.
“Let’s go check out Bob’s home.”
Henrik slapped his forehead.
“His father is Sherman, right? What’s his address again?”
“The Three Holy Spirits, their favorite recruits are the local wealthy and some well-off families.”
“Scorning the poor and favoring the rich, tsk tsk, the claws of capital have even reached into the Transcendent Domain.”
“If we’re lucky enough, maybe we can resolve this matter tonight.”
“Just the two of us, now?”
Henrik looked at Roger with an expression that read ‘you’re being foolish’.
“Wait for daylight and then stroll up to the door to pay a visit?”
“Believe me, lad, if you do that, you won’t discover anything.”
He patted Roger on the shoulder.
“If you want to become a qualified Demon Hunter in the future, hmm… then the first thing you should learn is…”
“Enough shamelessness.”
“Let all those so-called procedures go to hell!”
The woods were cool at night, and Henrik especially missed the undergarments he had left at the inn.
“Speaking of which, working without pay doesn’t feel too bad.”
Roger had no idea that the Demon Hunter who had just seemed so righteous was now lost in his own thoughts, planning where to enjoy himself after the mission was over.
Two figures carefully hid in the shadows.
“Follow closely behind me, be quiet, don’t move rashly, leave everything to me.”
Henrik raised his hand, and without any noticeable movement, several soft clicks followed, and the cameras hidden in secret corners were completely disabled.
The outer wall of the Sherman manor was high, a piece of architecture from an older era; now, it was rare to see a manor with walls so tall.
Without a running start, Henrik lightly jumped, his toes tapped the edge of the wall, and with a push of his hands, he nimbly flipped over the wall.
Roger, now no longer the rookie he once was, could still feel the power contained within Henrik’s body despite his effortless movements.
At least with his current physical condition, he couldn’t do it as easily and leisurely as Henrik.
Although it was clumsy, Roger also successfully scaled the wall, and as soon as he landed, he saw Henrik lightly raise his hand. Then, from the bushes not far away, two muffled groans were heard, and two large black dogs staggered out.
They then collapsed to the ground.
“Reaction, perception, strength…”
“He far surpasses ordinary people in many aspects.”
Roger originally thought Henrik’s skills lay in firearms use, but now it seemed that even if the guy had any weaknesses, they were still much stronger than his own.
Henrik leaned against the wall, swiftly moving towards a small building in the distance through the shadows.
His movements were quick and silent, and compared to him, Roger felt like an armoured bear.
The dark surroundings blurred, and Roger found himself especially missing the state he was in after taking the Night Cat Potion.
Henrik, who knew the manor well, unlocked the door and quietly slipped into the room.
“It seems we’ve come to the right place.”
With a slight twitch of his nostrils, Henrik whispered.
Then his expression subtly changed, “There’s a scent of blood!”
Without bothering to hide anymore, he took a swift stride up the stairs, and, with a start, Roger gripped the handle of his knife and followed.
Henrik was fast; he headed straight for a room at the end of the second-floor corridor, then kicked open the room door and rolled inside.
In the darkness, a rustling sound was heard. Near a bookcase by the wall, a shadow was rummaging through something.
A sliver of light from the curtain illuminated the figure, revealing a slender arm.
And Roger, pushing himself to the limit, reached the doorway.
Henrik, rolling on the ground, didn’t hesitate to fire his gun.
In the darkness, a spark burst forth; then, the shadow by the bookcase fell to the ground.
But Henrik wasn’t finished; he adjusted his posture as he rolled and pulled the trigger again!
