Demon Hunter and His Cabin Chapter 46

Chapter 46: Chapter 046: The Demon Hunter Still Needs to Go to School? The next day, Adeline knocked on Roger’s door bright and early. “Dear, today is your first day of school,” she said, handing Roger a new set of clothes. “Dress sharp, the girls at Baytown High are sure to be charmed by you.” With those words, she patted Roger on the shoulder and gave him an encouraging look. Roger feigned excitement on the surface, but deep down, he wasn’t at all enthusiastic about going to school; he would rather spend the time strengthening his physique. Yet, seeing the hopeful look in Adeline’s eyes, he could only helplessly nod his head. After all, it wasn’t quite right to always stay at home alone while living there. Going to school would be a good opportunity to systematically understand the country’s culture and history, and to acquire some useful knowledge along the way. Adeline had taken the day off on purpose, and after breakfast, she drove Roger directly to Baytown High. As for Little Jack, she had dumped him with her sister once again. Sometimes Roger even wondered if Little Jack was really Adeline’s biological child. Baytown High was the only high school in town and had a long history, said to date back almost a hundred years. The school was near the coast, where the fishing industry was thriving. At the time, some of the town’s merchants were fairly well-off, so they pooled funds to establish the high school. Though it was called a high school, it also included the town’s middle school division, as the town’s population was limited. To concentrate educational resources, it made sense to combine grades six through twelve. Grades six to eight for the middle school division. Grades nine to twelve for the high school division. In Armenia, the specific education system was quite different from what Roger had encountered before. The difference wasn’t particularly significant for elementary and middle school. But once one reached high school, it gradually became distinct. Relative to others, this high school began letting students choose their favorite courses, participate in activities and competitions starting from tenth grade, in preparation for selecting a college later on. When applying to colleges, both the usual performance and the final exam results were equally important. Of course, there was also the graduation dance, the most traditional event of all schools in the Armenia Federation, at the end of high school. All of this was information Roger had learned recently. However, he was completely uninterested in all of the above information. Having come into contact with mysterious matters and Transcendent powers, the mundane school life held no appeal for him whatsoever. He wished he could spend 24 hours a day in his cottage, frantically boosting his strength. As for going to school to put on airs, pretending to be a top student or an all-around athlete, Roger expressed complete… “Of course, the main reason I promised Aunt Adeline was to acquire knowledge and to investigate some matters on the side,” Roger kept reminding himself. “I’m here just to learn.” In front of the school, Roger noticed Baytown’s town emblem for the first time. “It comes from an ancient worship that dates back nearly a hundred years,” Adeline explained with a smile. “Back then, the residents of Baytown often went to sea, so it was natural for them to seek the ocean’s protection. You’ll understand the transmission of this unique culture as soon as you have a chance to look through the town’s history.” “Maybe it’s just a coincidence,” Roger didn’t speak up and followed Adeline into the school. As for Amanda, she had parted ways with them as soon as they got out of the car. Groups of students entered the school, laughing and smiling, their young faces brimming with joyous grins, seemingly unaffected by the recent attack incidents. “This is also a kind of simple happiness.” Seeing Roger’s new face, many students stopped in their tracks, and he could even hear some bold girls discussing his looks and physique. When they caught his gaze, some even shot him a clear whistle while chewing gum. “Really a bunch of youngsters.” Although he looked the same as them, Roger didn’t consider himself one of these young people. With a peripheral glance, he noticed a figure hurrying away, who bore some resemblance to Bob whom he had seen not long before, but that person seemed much thinner than Bob. Under Adeline’s guidance, Roger arrived at the principal’s office, where a simple inquiry and a basic examination of his test papers gave the school a preliminary understanding of his educational level. “Apart from math, literature, history, geography…” The principal was a middle-aged woman with pale skin and a pair of gold-rimmed glasses on her nose, looking somewhat harsh. “Excuse my frankness.” “His grades in other subjects are a complete mess.” “I should even suggest he starts over from the ninth grade.” The principal glanced at Adeline. “Stay after school for remedial classes every day.” Remedial classes after school? Roger simply couldn’t accept this, no matter what, and he looked at Adeline with a plea for help, since they had an agreement beforehand. Adeline gave him a comforting look, then asked Roger to wait in the hallway, seemingly intending to have a private word with the principal. Roger leaned against a wall corner alone, his eyes idly scanning the surroundings. It was almost time for class, but there were still many students in the hallway, gathering in groups of threes and fives. Some discussed popular movies and games, while others talked about entertainment gossip. At that moment, a voice suddenly reached his ears. “Hey, you’re Roger, right?” Roger turned around to see a boy with brown short hair and a red nose, his hands in his pockets, approaching slowly. The boy’s appearance was decent enough, but the acne scars on his face spoiled his otherwise refined features. Moreover, with his slouching shoulders, his demeanor seemed somewhat sleazy. Roger nodded, “Uh… if you haven’t mistaken me for someone else, then yes, that’s me.” The boy pulled out his right hand from his pocket. Seeing the sweaty palm, Roger hesitated for a moment and decided against shaking it. “What do you need me for?” Roger asked as if it was nothing. “I’m in second grade. I heard from Amanda that you’d be in my grade,” Thomas rubbed his hands together. “I’ve heard about you.” He lowered his voice slightly, “Being able to face a wolf on your own, that’s really impressive. Can you tell me about it?” “To be honest, since I was little, I’ve been extremely interested in wild animals. A real wild wolf—I find the thought thrilling.” Was this what meeting a fan felt like? Roger was taken aback, but just as he was about to answer, Amanda’s voice came from a distance. “Roger, what are you doing here… Thomas?” Seeing the boy next to Roger, Amanda’s expression changed instantly, “What are you doing here?” Thomas smiled awkwardly, “I just became friends with Roger, we were just discussing…” “Stay away from him!” Amanda looked unfriendly, and to be honest, it was rare for Roger to see such an expression on Amanda’s face. Thomas raised his hands and glanced at Roger, “We’ll chat another time.”
