Chapter 44: Chapter 044: Gwent Card?
It was deep in the night, and a white fog rose around the graveyard, within which a figure appeared intermittently.
The calm voice sounded again, and it was only then that Roger realized the voice he heard wasn’t coming from beside him but seemed to be arising directly in his heart.
As the fog dispersed, that figure walked closer, and Roger could see the other’s appearance clearly.
It was a young girl with chestnut hair, fair skin, not that kind of exquisite beauty but one that revealed a bit of cleverness.
She wore a strapless gown; the hem spread on the ground and undulated with her movement, then directly passed through tombstones and mounds of earth!
Roger blinked, even gently tapping his head, until the girl floated up to him, less than half a meter away.
A cold wind hit his face, and Roger watched, wide-eyed, as the girl passed through his body and reformed behind him.
A chill raced to his mind, and he couldn’t help but shudder.
“Can you see me now?”
The girl’s voice came, then swirled around Roger’s left and right.
“Are you human or a ghost?”
As soon as he spoke, Roger felt he had asked a stupid question.
The girl muttered softly, and then her appearance changed dramatically!
Her originally fair and plump skin vanished, replaced by a decayed corpse full of grooves, her fingernails elongated, turned pitch black and razor-sharp, her tongue grew insanely to about half a meter, dripping with strange mucus from her mouth down to her abdomen!
“Is this what you meant?”
The twisted, desperate voice came as the girl opened her wide bloody mouth, circling around Roger as if looking for a place to bite!
Roger’s hairs stood on end, his body curled up, adopting a defensive stance.
“Your scared expression is so amusing!”
Her body danced like smoke, and as she drew closer again, the girl had reverted to her original appearance.
“Did you say I’m human or ghost?”
Perhaps reminded of something, Roger asked, “Have you always lived here?” He didn’t pursue the matter of being human or ghost anymore.
The girl nodded and casually pointed to a cabin in the distance, “Before you moved in, I’ve lived here for a long time already.”
“There weren’t so many trees before, our house was not far from here.”
“That was many years ago, how long exactly?”
She tilted her head and thought, “Never mind, it’s been many years.”
What kind of place have I chosen?
Roger suddenly remembered the description of the cabin in the woods—if he had known his neighbor was an ageless female ghost, he really might not have had the courage to choose this place.
Recalling everything that had happened here recently, Roger couldn’t help feeling uneasy; he wasn’t sure if it was because he buried a corpse tonight, triggering something.
Or it was the effect of using the Spirit Communication Water recently.
But obviously, the most pressing issue at hand was what he should do next?
Should he continue to bury the body or find another place?
The night, the forest, the graveyard, the female ghost—just thinking about it was thrilling.
“My name is Anna, what about you?”
The female ghost looked at Roger with a curious expression.
After hesitating for a moment, Roger still responded, “Roger.”
If this person in front of him could kill him with just a name, then he was resigned to it.
“So… are we neighbors now?”
“I can’t leave this place, and I haven’t met anyone who can see me. You moved here and have been hiding in that peculiar house.”
“I can’t approach that house, and you’ve been ignoring me until now. But strangely, today when I tried to talk to you, you actually sensed me.”
“That’s really good news.”
“Would you come to keep me company and chat when you’re free?”
Roger felt his scalp tingle but could only nod stiffly.
The girl’s body suddenly drifted up, then she began to dance swiftly around the graveyard. “I can only appear at night, so don’t get it wrong. If you come here, I will definitely notice you.”
“I’m sorry, I’m just too excited.”
The girl curtsied gracefully. “Mr. Roger, it’s my pleasure to meet you for the first time. I won’t disturb your work any longer.”
She smiled, gestured to the body on the ground, retreated backward, and gradually disappeared into the mist.
Touching his damp forehead, Roger felt cold sweat soaking through him. Although his heart was pounding fiercely, he still tried to appear calm as he bent down and pushed the body into the large pit.
Dirt flew about as he worked mechanically until he had filled in the pit, packed down the soil on top, and made some simple refinements. Only then did he take a breath of relief and carried the shovel back to the cabin.
As soon as he closed the door, Roger’s body instantly collapsed.
Facing murlocs, wolves, or even murderers intent on killing him, he could remain calm.
Roger felt a cramp in his legs, now thinking about it, he marveled at his own earlier bravery and composure.
He quickly opened the cabin’s information, and this time he indeed noticed something different.

Remembering those crazy card-playing days, Roger actually felt a bit eager.
“A game of Gwent, perhaps?”
“What’s the use of this thing?” He couldn’t quite understand at the moment, but perhaps as the Hunter’s Cabin was upgraded, he’d be able to unlock more new features.
He walked into the study and pulled out the Monster Manual.
Flipping to a new page, indeed, a new entry appeared.
The Ghost by the Graveside: People may call them ghosts, the byproduct of intense emotions at the moment of death. They lack a physical form and are often confined to a place or around an object.
Although they can’t execute physical attacks, they can influence the living through possession and mental illusions.
Before becoming a Demon Hunter, ordinary people lack the means to deal with spirits. Remember, keeping a clear mind and staying as far away as possible is always the best strategy against ghosts.
If you’re facing an Evil Spirit or a Monster Spirit, don’t hesitate, run away fast!

Weaknesses: Destroying the object the spirit resides in, or breaking the obsession in their hearts.
