While making coffee, Kate heard the cling sound of the oven. She wiped her hands with a towel and strode there opening it.
Alvin stood by the door frame looking at her. he twitched his mouth watching as she hissed at how hot the pans are, burning her finger in the process but continued offloading the pans.
" Melody is joining us for breakfast. Make sure you prepare her favorite. We'll talk about your punishment for sleeping out" he said lazily as she stiffened. He couldn't tell which of the words stunned her but she dropped the pans. Discarding the apron around her neck and waist
" you should have said so earlier. I'm not cooking for your mistress. I guess you're not hungry" she sneered facing him.
His brow furrowed walking to her leaning to her five foot nine height begrudgingly
" You haven't heard what your punishment is Kate. I'll get back to work if I were you or your good for nothing job crumbles. Maybe your good-for-nothing brother will be fired as well. After all, I feed your entire family. Not that I'm complaining but you're beginning to piss me off. " He finished releasing his bowtie and undoing his cufflinks.
Kate glared at him like glared at him, picked the apron, and resumed cooking without uttering another word to him which kinda affected him. She was the talkative type. She says whatever bothers her even if it would offend him. He couldn't help but notice the change. He shrugged his shoulder walking to the door.
" Prepare some muffins too. Hurry up with the coffee. I don't have all day " he ordered. She ignored him looking at his ring finger which had their wedding ring on it.
Why does he wear it? He doesn't even love her. He might not be her first man but he was her husband. She just hopes he divorced her soon and she wanted it to be on his good side or else her family will suffer. Her younger brother has been recently employed all thanks to him.
Her mother smiles often. He was a blessing to them but not to her. If they were to part ways she wanted it to be on good terms.
" Are you sick? He suddenly asked startling her. Her eyes had black circles on them and she was pale.
" I'm talking to you goddamn it " he snapped
" I'm fine. Just the cold. It's nothing I can't handle. Alvin? She called as he raised his brows in anticipation
" Can I visit my mom? I haven't seen her since your return" there was pleading in her voice which had him smiling. It was how she coaxed him for favors but not today he wasn't falling for it.
" No. I have sent her the money. I'm sure she doesn't miss you. Focus on your duty as my wife and property. I bought you from your mother. She lost you the moment she agreed to our union. How many times will I tell you this? I come home two or three months a year and you're eager to go back to them? Do you think I married you to show off? His toned carries mockery with a hint of sarcasm
She almost forgot he'll be leaving in two months then she'll continue to wail in silence. She fears she will lose her sanity someday to his cruelty.
" I didn't sell myself to you. You wooed me, Alvin, you chased me around proclaiming your love to me. Why? Why did you deceive me? I loved you. I don't know if I can say it presently but I loved you. You lied to me and turned me into your dog: your puppet. now I can't visit my mom? My little brother? This is not fair" she blurted out sniffling with her hands on her waist
She had asked him the reason but he said nothing. She's stuck with him. How can she go against him? She knew no one.
" Behave yourself or the consequences will be dire. Isn't your family your priority? I'm taking care of them while you pay the price. Give and take Kate. I guess your mentality is outdated. Study more or your educated brother can teach you. " He mocked leaving.
His ridicule meant nothing to her. She was used to it but prohibiting her from seeing her mom? She couldn't do that. ' he'll leave soon ' she concluded.
Lisa and Annette were setting the table when Melody entered the living room with jean shorts and a short top with her coat hanging on her hands.
" Annette? She called walking majestically taking the view of the living room in awe
" Yes Miss Melody" she voiced as she took her dressing into view. Their boss loves blondes, she wondered why he married Kate. She preferred the sophisticated Melody to a clueless Kate.
" My luggage. Are you lost? She yelled bringing Annette back to her senses which had her rephrasing her words. She liked her outfits nothing more. Kate is definitely better in character.
" Where's my Alvin? " She asked as Annette struggled to lift the luggage. ' is she staying? ' she thought pulling it upstairs.
" Are you deaf Lisa? She roared
" Come again I didn't hear you," she said plainly as she grumbled
" Where's my sweet Alvin? She repeated but Lisa kept her mouth shut.
She was the second oldest person in Alvin's Mansion. She wasn't afraid of anyone.
" Uh' she grumbled climbing the stairs as Lisa sneered.
Kate retired to her room tiredly to shower and perhaps have some sleep if he'll let her.
Melody couldn't help but drool at the sumptuous meal on the table. She quickly picked a muffin stuffing it in her mouth savoring the taste.
" Who made this? I need the recipe" she asked looking at Alvin who was staring at the empty seat to his right.
A glint of hurt surfaced Melody's heart but she didn't show it.
" Lisa, send for Kate. She should be the one to serve Melody" he stated without batting an eye.
" No need I can serve myself" she stated but choked on her food when he gave her the hateful glare. She coughed violently drinking some water
Kate eventually arrived with sleepy eyes and disheveled hair.
" You sent for me. I'm not hungry" she said hoarsely. Not sparing Melody a glance
He smirked " who cares? Serve us. " He ordered as her eyes widened. She was awake now and glaring at Melody.
But she did it, serving them while sniffling which gladdened Melody who took joy in ordering her around. Lisa wanted to say something but Annette shook her head stopping her from meddling.
She served Alvin sniffling, he ignored her eating his breakfast.
" Get me a bottle of wine from the cellar" he ordered Lisa was about to get it but he stopped her " not you, Kate will do it" she looked at him but went to get it anyway.
Melody enjoyed the whole show acting all seductive. She sat on his lap kissing him which Alvin gladly reciprocated.
Kate returned and saw the scene, the bottle of scotch fell from her hands shattering to pieces. Alvin looked at her resuming the kiss devouring her mouth.
She started wheezing, she couldn't breathe. Lisa had to go to her aid. Pulling her inhaler out pumping it in her mouth continuously till she could breathe again.
" You need to rest Kate. Your asthma will get worse. You know what happened the last time it happened. It's not the first time he's bringing her home. You've to fight for your love. " She advised helping her up.
Lisa was right, it wasn't the first but she was on breaking point already. She couldn't take it anymore. She wasn't prepared to hear him Fuck her the whole night while she listens.
Sensing her presence, Alvin withdrew from the kiss. Caressing her thighs smirking expecting her to say something but she surprised him pouring a plate of hot soup on Melody which had her screaming her lungs out.
" PAK" was the next sound in the dining room. It silenced the Wailing Melody as well but for just a few seconds as she resumed screaming. Annette went to her aid ignoring the fact that Alvin just slapped Kate.
" You've no right to do that. You're just someone I picked from the gutters, someone I gave my name to. You're worthless compared to her " he spat noticing the imprints on her cheek which had him softening but masked it.
She held her cheeks refusing to cry but some droplets of tears escaped from her eyes as she stormed out of the house in anger.
Alvin was surprised he slapped her. He looked at his hands then left the dining room.
Lisa ran after a disintegrated Kate but she wasn't ready to listen. Having walked a mile away from the residential area, she hailed a taxi to the nearest bar when she received a call to meet a client in a hotel.
She grumbled deciding to sort herself out first. Sobbing can wait.' she thought entering a shopping mall to buy clothes.
