Chapter 12
I was standing near the parking lot after having lunch with my friends. Suddenly an enchanting scent hit my nostrils. It was a fusion of jasmine, rose, and honey. The smell of my mate. My wolf was excited as well. I followed the scent towards a tree. She was sitting there reading a book. She was munching a chocolate bar and smiling while reading the book. I felt both excited and angry. Excited about getting her as my mate and angry for me being an asshole. She will never forget the things that I did to her.
" Idiot. She will never forgive you .” my wolf told me.
I was eagerly looking at her. She was so gorgeous. She was an angel blessed by the moon goddess. She had the most beautiful brown eyes that I have ever seen. I thought the same thing when I first saw her at the mall that day. Her eyes twinkled whenever she smiled. She had little stars in her eyes and long lashes that made me excited. She looked so perfect.
She was alone. She had lost her friends because of me. I took membership in the library so that I could get too close to her. But she tried to avoid me in every way she can. She considered me as a regular guy.
I also found out that she lived in a poor house. I secretly followed her one day. I made fun of her condition.
Following her was my regular activity after that. I want to make sure she is safe from all predator's eyes. I was a possessive bodyguard she is not aware of.
I wanted to correct the mistake I had done to her. I tried talking with her friends but they blamed me for ruining their friendship. They added that Maria won't reconsider them as their friends anymore. She lost their trust for almost one year. It is almost the end of the first. The finals are approaching which means I made her life gloomy for almost one year.
I leaned towards the library wall while brushing all my thoughts aside. She was nowhere to be seen. I was slowly starting to become impatient.
My wolf was howling inside me.
“mate. She is here”
Her faint scent fading away. Then I saw a figure running away. She wanted to run away from me. She hated me.
I went back home in a dull mood. I went straight to my room. I took my phone and looked for her picture that I took that day. She looked awful. She was crying when I took that shot. Her knees were bleeding and she looked helpless. That when I lost it. I threw my phone away angrily.
“ Fuck “ I hit my hand harder on the wall till my knuckles bleed.
Maria POV
I had no choice but to run. I wanted to disappear from his sight. He was like a predator who wanted to maul me to death. I don't know what was his motive yet. He was following me. I woke up one day to the noise from outside. I saw a person looking through my window. I screamed my lungs out. My parents rushed towards my room and comforted me.
I woke up the next day feeling tired. I wasn't able to sleep last night because of the nightmare. My nightmares were mostly about him destroying my life. I went to the class early and occupied my usual seat. I was scribbling in my diary preoccupied with my thoughts when someone sat beside me. I looked up to catch an intense stare from Mike who was sitting very close to me. I tried to move away but he grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him. I saw a hint of sparkle in his eyes. They told me a thousand stories.
“What are you writing ? “ he tried to peek into my diary.
“It’s none of your business Mike and why are you sitting near me. It is not your usual seat.”
“I know but I traded places with that geek guy Sam. This is gonna be my permanent seat from now on". He replied.
That guy Sam was a bookworm who was 24 hours into studies. He never minded who was sitting near him. So he wouldn't mind who traded seats with him. I used to sit with Ria and Rose but since they ditched me I don’t have a choice but to sit with Sam.
I don't know what Mike was planning now but I had a feeling it is not a pleasant one.
“Mike please leave me alone. I don't want to sit near you. If you don’t leave me then I will find a new place myself “ I told him.
“And who is gonna lend you a seat. Everyone had formed their own group. See you have no other choice but to sit near me" he smiled.
I looked back and found an unoccupied bench at the extreme back. I grabbed my bag and walked towards it. Mike followed me and sat beside me. I placed my bag between us to keep a distance between us.
Yeah, he was right to let him sit near me. All I have to do is mind my own business. Maybe next year I will be free from this.
I caught him staring at me many times. Whenever I caught him he either give me a wink or a smile. Her eyes were burning with desire. I suddenly remembered that kiss. My cheeks flushed and I tried my best to hide it. I had butterflies in my stomach.
The lunch bell woke me from that damn thoughts.
"Mike, would you please excuse me. I need to go “
I rushed to the canteen without looking back. I bumped into many people on my way. I heard footsteps behind me. He was following me. I went to stand behind a queue. Then the footsteps stopped just behind me. I felt a warm breath behind my neck. He breathed.
“You need to slow down. I saw you falling I few times. You don't want to get hurt, do you ?” He told me.
I wasn't thinking of giving him a reply. So I looked here and there without giving any attention to him. I took my lunch and gave the lunch lady a warm smile. I started walking towards my usual place. He followed me and sat near me. I was even more surprised about his behavior. What is his next plan for poisoning my food?
I started eating without minding him.
“This spot is really calm and quiet Maria. Maybe we can have our lunch every day under this big tree. “ he said." I was starting to hate my old boring place . “ he added.
“Did you break up with your friends or are you planning anything new. Is this a game or a dare? Whatever it is your stupid plan will never work on me.”
With that, I stood up and started to walk away from him. I dumped my food on the dustbin and headed to my class. I lost my appetite.
