It's been 2 weeks since I submitted my piece and got my dream promotion. Everything I've wanted finally coming into place....well not everything. A week ago I finally decided to take Sarah's offer and I hung out with her and some of her other white friends on Friday, at this nice bar it was kinda full but the interior was good.
That Friday was eventful I dunno if it was me being the only black person in the group or the strange not so subtle looks that Dean kept giving me thinking I didn't notice. Boy, please.
And yes you read right, Dean! That's the same thing I thought when I saw him and thought "Ain'tyou like our boss or something? Does doing this make up for the guilt of fucking your secretary or make you feel like less of a jerk so you can sleep at night?" I looked at him and still try to pretend he was not staring at me.
I tell you some of these white people be all up in black people's business sometimes.
Sarah is nice even though she came with other friends she didn't just leave me hanging we talked, and got to know each other a little that day she was fun. I also shared a few conversations with James turns out he's also kinda nice too. He has a 2-year-old daughter named Lizzy, showed me her picture she's a complete Angel.
After that Friday Sarah and I started texting back and forth I also found out her house wasn't that far from mine. And I just hope it wasn't a phase she'd make a good friend... Lord knows I could use a few of that.
And yes Faye has not called me back like she said she would.
She'd probably call when she needs something and like the nice forgiving dumbass you are you'll answer my subconscious retorted. I do have a mind of my own.
Stopping the elevator on the 3rd floor to come say Hi to Sarah and also get coffee, I was too late to get my usual coffee on my way this morning I'd just have to settle for third-floor coffee. I walked in and made my way to the coffee machine luckily Sarah's desk was around there she saw me before I saw her and made her way towards me
"Hey, you... lemme guess you're here for the coffee?" She asked with a smile on her face
"Well yeah, and to say hi to you too the coffee is just extra" I giggled softly
We walked together towards her desk and the machine talking about our weekends, work and my new office also the new episodes of cheating Dean and his secretary... that name is all Sarah's doing.
While we were sipping coffee and talking James made his way in greeted us and joined the conversation. We talked for a couple more minutes before I agreed to make my way back and we all agreed to have lunch together later.
"Keep your phone close we have a lot of things to talk about," Sarah said walking up to me
"Sure girl" I replied before the elevator closed
Today was going to be a long day for me I had a lot of work shit that I need to sort out, one of the upsides of my new position and work it comes with less workload and a fat paycheck. Odd combination but who am I to complain, I loved it.
My phone buzzed I picked it up smiling to see the message Sarah sent but it was from Jax, and my smile widened.
Yeah, we had been talking back and forth too all I know about him is that he's a club owner and has other businesses also and he doesn't talk much last part I figured all on my own.
Turns out he was also single, my facts were wrong it's not my fault tho the last time I stalked him extremely well, he had a picture of him and his girlfriend on Facebook, not my fault I thought they were still together, you can say I've been lagging in the social media stalking department.
I'm sure you're jumping at the news huh, single Jax and single Imani. damn you subconscious!
I mean yeah the idea did come to me but look at his ex and look at me nothing alike what if he had a type then it's not a big black girl?
We kept texting back and forth mostly talking about me though and his best friend Michael who is like a brother to him. From the way he talks about his friend, he adores him a lot. My phone started ringing... I smiled, I was expecting this. Every day since We started texting after some time he always switches to a phone call I asked him once why he likes calls and he said and I quote
"I don't" huh
"Oh, but you call me"
"Yeah you, it's soothing" my faint little heart exploded inside. I was smiling for the entirety of that day and the next.
"I want to see you"
"What?" I asked shockingly I mean I knew he finally moved to New York permanently I just thought we would never have to see each other or for it to be so soon
"I. Want. To. See-" I cut him off
"No, no I heard you, I'm just surprised that all"
"Why?" Damn you and your man of few words shit
"I dunno I guess I never expected it"
"Well we're friends right and friends meet up"
He is not wrong there
"Yeah I know" sounding all collected but I was freaking the fuck out!
"Good I'll pick you up at 8, don't forget to send your address"
"Wait it's today?!!"
"Yes Imaani, today." Ughhhh don't say my name I always turned into a pool of goo when he says my name.... there's something about the way he says it that sounds soo sensual and intoxicating
Oh my God! Now I'm fully freaking out I've not gone shopping in ages I don't even know where or what to wear
"Can I at least know where we're going?"
He chuckled "Wear a gown love"
Did this man not hear what I asked
"Did you hear me?"
"I did Imaani and I answered the way I could now If you'd excuse me I have a date to prepare for"
A Date!!!
"Uh yeah sure...take care" I was too shocked by everything to even ask about the date thing he said
"You too"
Fuck! Immediately after he ended the call, I sent Sarah a quick SOS I hope she doesn't think I'm disturbing her she's the only girlfriend I have.
"I got your text about what happened I came here as soon as I could, you good?"
Oh my God..girllll
I could not help but smile widely
"What why are you smiling....and crying wait are those tears?"
Yes I was a bit teary
"Yeah I didn't think you'd come"
"Why won't I? We're friends. Wait we are friends right?" She asked taking the extra seat in the office
"Yeah yeah we're friends" I answered chuckling softly and cleaning my eyes and told her about how I thought she won't come and almost cancelled the text
"Well I'm glad you did, so what's the emergency"
"Oh yeah I kinda have a date tonight and I have nothing to wear"
"Wait! hold up, what do you mean kinda?"
"Is that all you picked up?"
"Not really but I gotta know tho"
So I told her about Jax. The crush I had on him and how he just moved to the big apple and wants to go on a 'date' or friend meet-up or whatever.
"Oh wow that's... that's a lot but luckily for you, you've got me on your side lets go. Are you driving or should I?"
Wait what
"What? Where are we going?"
"You just said you have a date and no clothes where the hell would we be going to?"
"We're going shopping?"
"No skydiving, of course, dummy we need to get you ready for that fine specimen of a man tonight"
"But we've not closed yet"
"You don't know the perks of your new promotion huh?"
There are extra perks!
"I do. I mean I know the necessary one" I replied lowly
"Let me guess fat paycheck and resuming at 9"
"Well yeah, who doesn't want that?"
She placed her hand on her forehead and shook her head "Just get your car keys and let's go please"
"I took an uber my car's at the auto shop," I said gathering my things and following her out the door
"Okay we'll take mine"
We made our way to the store not before getting some food first then finally went to go get my dress for tonight's 'date'
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a nervous wreck. Just thinking about being in the same place as Jax for some hours.
Lord help me.
