Born In Ashes: The Enigma Chapter 36

"Weapon..." Azrael asked in a serious voice. "What kind of weapon do you think I should use?" When Silas and Ashara heard Azrael’s words, their eyes flashed as they exchanged glances. Azrael raised an eyebrow at their unexpected reaction, wondering what was going through their minds. "Do you remember I told you I would take you somewhere once you reached the mid level of the breathing method?" Ashara suddenly asked. Azrael nodded at her question. He had been wanting to ask about that as well. "Let’s put aside the matter of what kind of weapon you should learn first for the time being. We can talk about it after I take you to that place tomorrow." Azrael was very curious about where they were planning to take him. But when he asked them, Silas and Ashara only said he would find out tomorrow. "Tch! Keep acting mysterious," Azrael clicked his tongue and stood up to leave. Silas and Ashara watched him walk away, and once he disappeared from sight, Silas spoke in a low voice. "Are you sure it’s alright? That thing... you know it’s not normal, right?" Ashara sighed and replied in a helpless tone, "It’s something he condensed just after his birth. Though that thing seems very... dangerous, it’s still a part of him, and only he can use it." "I still think we should wait until he at least reaches planetary level before he tries to control that thing. When we brought him there last time, he wasn’t able to handle it," Silas said seriously. "He was just five years old at that time. Besides, even if he fails again this time, he can try again in the future," Ashara responded lightly. Silas simply shook his head and didn’t say anything further. Azrael returned to his room, and after closing the door, the first thing he did was take out the Despair level token of Eonrift from his inventory. As he thought about retrieving the token, a flash of light appeared on his palm, and a small, round token made of inky black wood materialized in his hand. The wooden token appeared ordinary, with no engravings or unique markings. However, its deep black color emitted a sinister aura that would make anyone feel uncomfortable. Azrael stared at it for a few seconds before placing it in a square-shaped metal box. Inside the box was also the pocket watch he had found in his pocket the day he arrived in this world. After placing the token beside the pocket watch, Azrael locked the box and stored it away in the compartment beneath his bed. With everything done, he slumped onto the soft bed and stared at the ceiling with a thoughtful expression. "I hope nothing goes wrong tomorrow," He muttered while rubbing his eyebrows, then sighed. From the way Ashara and Silas had acted earlier, he could tell that wherever they were planning to take him wasn’t a normal place. Moreover, Ashara had long ago told him she was taking him there to get something that belonged to him. "I am not the Azrael of this world." If the thing they intended to give him was something only the Azrael of this world could use, it could cause serious problems for him. "I don’t want anything unexpected at this point." When Azrael first came to this world, his opinion of Ashara and Silas was rather negative due to his experiences on Earth. Even after hearing about them from Kael, he had remained wary. Though Kael clearly lived a happy life, Azrael couldn’t trust them without seeing them for himself. But the day Ashara and Silas returned and he had his first conversation with them, his opinion began to change. From negative and wary, his view shifted to neutral. He still didn’t fully trust them as it was too soon to form a conclusion based solely on a first meeting—but at least, he no longer judged them based on his memories of Earth. To him, the people who had caused him pain were already dead. He had killed them with his own hands. There was no point in judging new people negatively just because they shared the same names and somewhat similar faces with the ones he hated. It had already been around ten months since he came to this world. In these ten months, he had seen firsthand just how much Ashara and Silas cared for Kael and him. Ashara rarely left the house. Aside from cultivating, she spent most of her time with him and Kael. Silas, though busy most of the time, rarely missed dinner with the family and always spent weekends with them. With their current power levels, Ashara and Silas no longer needed to eat, having long since surpassed the basic needs of normal humans. But even then, because of Kael and Azrael, they ate dinner together every day. If he or Kael ever needed something, all they had to do was tell Ashara or Silas. As long as it wasn’t harmful, they would do their best to provide it. In Azrael’s memories of Earth, he remembered how Kael, when they were young, used to dream of having good parents. But that wish had never come true— not until the end. Here, however, seeing Kael so happy and witnessing how different Silas and Ashara were from the scumbags in his memories, Azrael gradually came to accept them over the past ten months. Just like Kael, he no longer felt uncomfortable calling them Mom or Dad. Unlike before—when the words sounded forced— now they flowed from his mouth naturally. "I hope wherever they are planning to take me won’t change this peaceful life of ours," Azrael sighed and decided to take a nap until dinner. Opening the 40th primary energy vein had truly exhausted him, and his head was still a bit dizzy. Just a few seconds after closing his eyes, his breathing stabilized, and he fell into the land of dreams.
