All I felt when I woke up the next morning was this incredible headache that made everything even more unbearable.
I sat up in bed, but that wasn't a good idea because it made my head pound even more. So today I decided to just stay in bed and not go to school. I probably had a black eye anyway, which could raise questions.
But I'll miss the history exam, which is why I'll get an F, but that doesn't matter anyway, because there was no time to study yesterday anyway.
But like every morning, the doorbell rang and actually I wasn't expecting Steven after yesterday. Was he really acting like yesterday never happened?
I stayed in bed and hoped he would leave. I didn't want to speak to him because I just have one question anyway, which he won't answer me anyway. Unfortunately, I heard my father move to open the door for Steven. Why does he have to keep opening the door lately? Is he bored?
Shortly thereafter, there was a knock on my room door and Steven's voice rang out, "Aurelia? We should talk!" But I didn't bother to answer. It would be best if he just walked away.
Then he tried again "Auri please! May I come in?" his voice sounded desperate. But again I didn't answer. Should I pretend I'm still asleep?
"I know you're in there and I'm going to come in now whether you like it or not!" he said more firmly this time, almost as if he had to convince himself.
When he entered shortly afterwards, I sat up quickly and turned the side of my injured face towards the wall. I didn't want him to see me like that. He would only worry. I couldn't use it now. And I'm not good at making excuses either.
"Please go back, I don't want to see you now!" I said in a decisive tone.
Why now? Just go back Steven, I begged him in my mind.
Steven, however, sat down next to me on the bed and I could feel his eyes on me, but I still tried to ignore him.
Just keep staring at the gray wall. He'll notice that I don't want to talk...
"I know you want me to answer your questions, but it's not as easy as you think it is," he began. "All you need to know is that I would never hurt you or hurt you." I got angry because Steven didn't seem to trust me. We've known each other for so many years now. I thought he would tell me everything, even though I was never honest with him myself.
"DO YOU KNOW HOW I FELT? DAMN I WAS DEATH SCARED. I could see the lust for murder in this man's eyes. And yet everything was so fucking confusing." I yelled at him now that I couldn't hold myself back. I had to vent my frustration now. "His eye color changed from green to pitch black in a second is that possible steven?"
"What?" Steven asked, clearly confused.
Without realizing it, I turned my head to him.
I only realized my mistake when it was already too late.
"Aurelia," Steven said, shocked, looking at my face. I quickly grabbed my hand in front of it, but he had already seen it. "What happened?" he asked, gasping for breath.
"Nothing," I answered uncertainly. "I fell in the bathroom. You know what a clumsy I am..." I could only hope that he would buy the excuse.
"You'd tell me if someone hurt you, wouldn't you?" he asked me. And inside I was seething again. Of course I would tell him. Just like he told me everything. Hello irony.
Is that even friendship between us if we are not honest with each other? Can something like that still work?
"Of course," I whispered, finally getting up to get ready.
In the bathroom, the first thing I looked at was my reflection in the mirror and I was shocked to find that the entire left side of my face was blue. The violet ran from above my left eye to my cheekbone.
I couldn't go to school like that today. Even makeup doesn't help anymore.
After a pleasant shower, I ran back to my room, but Steven wasn't here anymore. I ran to my window. But there was no sign of his jeep out on the street either.
I wanted my peace, but somehow I was disappointed that he wasn't here to hug me anymore. Because I could really use that.
So this friendship really seems to be over...
