He finally excused himself, saying he was late for work and left despite the fact that his mum obviously didn't look too good about it.
"He's still working there?" The principal asked, concern written all over his face.
"You know him, he's as stubborn as is father" she said and smiled softly. She told us how grateful she was that we visited and said a few words to the principal then to Aisha and we marched out of the kingdom.
As we walked out of the place, I had a million thoughts running through my brain.
'why aren't they here yet?' I wondered about Lara and Tomison. And as we got out of the main building to the last gate I saw them standing and having what seemed like a heated conversation with the security guard. Apparently, the Principal saw them too and asked the driver to stop. He got down from the bus and went over to them. He said a few words to the security man and to my friends and finally I watched as they all got on the bus. Aisha was seating visible spot in front of me and I could see her shock at the sight of Tomison and Lara together. Thankfully, Tomison said hello to me and went on to take a vacant seat beside Aisha, a junior girl was seating beside me so Lara couldn't sit with me. She sat at on the only vacant seat, beside the principal.
"What happened?" I asked immediately I saw the two of them outside the gate waiting for me.
"The stupid gate man decided not to let us in" Lara said, looking frustrated.
"Why? Didn't you say you were...."
"I know what I said, you don't need to remind me" Tomison said sharply.
"Hey, are you pissed or something?" I asked.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you. It's just that Aisha girl; she's getting on my last nerve"
"That reminds me, you guys seemed to talk a lot during the bus ride what was she saying?" Lara asked.
"She wanted to know why I was with you"
"What did you tell her?" I asked.
"I just told her we met each other at the gate and she started acting saying all sort of things about you" she said to Lara.
"As expected" Lara did a funny thing with her mouth and shrugged.
"Did she say anything about me?" I asked.
"Nope, she just thought I was foolish for seating with her instead of you. She feels you'll start getting suspicious."
"Oh, okay. You guys won't believe who I saw at the Ekene's"
Lara hailed a Tricycle and as it gradually came to a halt they asked, "Who?"
We told the Tricycle guy our destination.
"The KONGA guy"
"What's his name again? Uh...."
"Obinna" I said, putting Lara out of her misery.
"Wow, so he went to deliver something to them?" Tomison asked, but it was obvious that she was still pissed.
"I wish" I said. "He's Jackson's brother"
They both looked shocked.
"But, you said he works as a delivery boy at an online store" Lara said, " Are you sure he was the one you saw?"
"That means he's Leo" Tomison said to no one in particular. "Yeah, he has to be Leo."
"What are you talking about?" I asked in confusion.
"When Jax and I used to date, I would visit their house and he would tell me without knowing that he hated his half brother so much. He didn't exactly like to talk about Leo, but he just couldn't help himself most of the time... yeah he also said he liked calling him Leo because he knew his brother hated the name
"That explains the fake smile the woman kept giving. I thought it was because she was sad" I said.
"What are you saying?"Lara asked.
"Nothing, it's just the way Jackson's mum kept smiling at Obinna, it was sparkling fake."
"Uh....She's Obi....Leo's biological mum so why would she smile that way?" Tomison asked.
I was confused, I thought for once that Jax was the son of the woman, and Obinna was the half son from another mother. I told her.
"You're so wrong. Jax's mum was the second wife. She died after birthing him." Tomison explained.
"Then why did she look so fake?"
"I'm sure it was just you, and your instincts." Tomison said.
'What if she's right' I thought.
I got home that day jumping into a conclusion. I was going to stop being the Nosy Girl that always read meanings into everything. Mum and Tomison were right. I didn't have to involve myself. What was the point?
Rotimi was around by the time I got home and thankfully he hadn't made a mess of the kitchen except from an unwashed cup of garri which I gladly rinsed and kept back into its rightful position.
"So how was school today?" he asked absently.
"Rotimi, you really don't have to act like you care."
"and you say this because?"
"Because you've never asked that question before in your entire life"
"Wow, so it's a crime for me to ask my kid sister how her day was? Especially because I heard someone I saw only a few days back from her school died?"
"First of all, you're only older than me by 2 years—"
"And you can't buy that in the supermarket. Secondly?"
"Secondly I can't believe you're just hearing about Jax's death. Like he died on Monday!"
"yeah I heard about his death, I'm just decided to talk about It today. Anyway, forget about that. How's Tomison?" he asked, smirking.
"She's fine, and why are you smirking?"
"She said I should not let you know but that's just childish stuff. I think you'll know anyway. Its not like you're not going to be there or something"
"What are you talking about? I'm lost"
"She sort of told me about the party on Saturday. And I offered to go with her as her date"
