The priest who was named Robert came forward with his loose robs hanging around him. He motioned us to come forward and we did the same. Ours was a quite simple ceremony and there were no long prayer services like humans. He raised his hands upward saying things in our ancient language something like blessing these couples with health, happiness and children. There were no cases of infertility so far among us but it wasn't above the elders to blame the same on my head as well. My inability to have a wife was a pain in the ass for them in general.
"Who is going to come and bless this union?'' asked the priest. " I will", came a familiar voice I grimaced hearing that. It was none other than Greta. It was one thing to attend the wedding, but to bless the union I thought she wouldn't do it. The love and adoration of the people were only humbling me beyond imagination. It was tough being in her position her granddaughter should be in her place instead I was marrying the woman accused of murdering could this be any more dramatic. Fuck it I seriously wish she would just remain inside the packhouse making me feel less guilty of the whole thing.
But this wasn't something I was doing out of love, more like desperation. I sighed when she came forward and she was handed a sword. She took it with conviction. I cringed at the visual. My mate looked as if she would fall. She must be afraid for her life. But Greta won't do that. Will she? Damn it I was confused now I almost held my hands up to call off the entire ceremony since I didn't want to end up with two dead brides.
She calmly held out her hands. I took a deep breath and put my hand in hers. She slowly opened my palms and cut my palm. There was a slight burning sensation. But I would heal within seconds so this has to be quick. She withdrew her hands and held our hands again and this time for my mate she looked at me alarmed by the gesture. I nodded my head towards Greta's hand. She shakingly put her hands on them. Greta's face was expressionless and carefully kept that way it seems. If she ever considers us barbarians this ought to change that.
She slowly turned her shivering hands and brought the sword to cut It. She trembled at the sight of the mighty sword. Greta had a carefully schooled expression. I wished that she pulled this through because she could flip anytime soon. But thankfully she didn't prolong the event but quickly cut her palm gently because she must know of her human nature. My mate exhales a long-overdue breath; her bravado wasn't there anymore. I want to give Greta a slow clap for giving her a small taste of her own medicine. If only her fear of life would put her off from going on a killing spree.
I looked at her hand-wound and immediately heard a lip smack and a licking sound. It was Julio who was winking at me. My mate was only looking at her palms where blood was dripping. I immediately put a protective hand around her. She was surprised but she let it go. She might have thought it a part of the ceremony. "Alpha now please put your hand forward", told the priest and I did as I was told. She was also asked to do the same and she does. A tiny part of me was happy it was my wolf part. I thought you were dead mate. I asked my wolf counterpart. I thought so too mate I got my answer back.
Greta put our wound palms together though mine was already healed. But the blood was still there hence the name. She wrapped a white cloth which signifies love. Then she cut her palm as well and placed it above the cloth. Normally this part of the ceremony was generally skipped because it makes the third person almost responsible for the health and happiness of the married couple. Just like a godparent, they have to assume this role of our servitude. I banned it because I didn't believe that a third person must be involved as a servant to a private affair of two people.
If one decided to get married it was one's responsibility to make sure it lasts no one else's. I looked at Greta in a questioning way. " I thought of doing this for you and my granddaughter", she answered with barely a whisper. I almost groaned at her pain which was putting her through. I was done with the ceremony, I had enough already this has yet again, proved the loyalty of my pack but my mate has no understanding of that word at least.
With the whole torture coming to an end everyone started to bow to me correction us. She was now their Luna whatever they had towards her had to change this instance because now they have to be as loyal to her as me. We were no more two but one unified by the holy ceremony. Everything changes now the only people who didn't bow was Mike and Vampire. Mike raised his wine glass at us while the sucker just cast a sinister smile. I acknowledged only Mike and turned to my mate.
She was looking at me like she swallowed something bad. The whole thing must be taking a toll on her. If I was correct her face held please get me out of her expression and I answer with a not so fast sweetheart one. I got a hold of her hands and made a move towards where Mike and sucker were standing. We were greeted by a snicker from the sucker himself. I ignored him. It offended him because he opened his hole.
"What a waste of blood", said the sucker. " What a waste of space", I countered back at him. "Hey calm it boys ", said Mike. He looked like a school teacher. Julio was nothing but a joke. I wasn't scared of him, only concerned about his departure. His face itself was giving me allergies. " Congratulations Aidan", said Mike. I responded with a cool thanks. I wanted to ask when they were going to leave but shut my mouth.
"So what are your plans?", asked Mike. " Nothing for now", I spoke to him but my eyes didn't leave the monster. "You should take her back to her home and friends at least once because they are looking everywhere and it would be better than a runaway or serial killer story ", told Mike. " I want to see Lis ", I told my mate. I gritted my teeth she will fucking ruin it I know.
" You can see her any time you want. I'm surprised you didn't invite her here", told Mike his smile was a little worn. "I didn't think it was safe ", she said, looking a little bit tired. " I didn't see anything bizarre till now. You could have asked her if you are marrying a native person she won't expect less than anything happened here", Mike finished. I want both of them gone. I was tired of their antics by now. This was our safe space. I want to go back now. I will have to talk to my mate again. She was making the whole marriage go to waste. The next thing she will do is hop on their vehicle to go back to her place. I was on my alert.
"If you are worried about your friend you could give me her address I will let her know about you", said Julian his sinister smile was still there. " No thanks, I'm sure she will be fine", my mate answered. "I'm afraid I can't use my telepathy on you anymore. I wonder why?", he told us absently. " I was relieved to hear this but not less tense. "Maybe our ceremony had put an end to your mind tricks", I told him, feeling very relaxed. His eyes were narrowed between us. " Maybe Alpha she is safe from me after all", he answered.
"Luna is powerful enough as an Alpha hope you remember this next time", I told Julio. " Is she? I hardly think so she is a human after all", told Julio. "We humans may lack physical strength but we are far better in terms of the brain", said Mike. I'm not sure but it feels as though Julio isn't liked by Mike as well. No surprise there. He is a prick.
" We have stayed long now is the time for us to get back. Isn't that right Julio?", asked Mike. "It's over already I was expecting a topless tribal dance from a woman", said Julio. I wanted to bite his head off for saying those words. With great self-control, I hold myself. " That's enough Julio we are going now", said Mike understanding the offending words from him.
"Ok mom", he laughed out. " I hope you reach home safe Mike though im not sure about it because of your companion", I told Mike. "Don't worry about me Alpha I can take care of myself", said Mike typing something on his phone. My mate was silent beside me she didn't want to talk to Julio it was understandable considering his whole demeanour. Being a vampire was the least offensive thing about him. They walked away from us and I spotted my beta and the rest of my gang standing close to us. I motioned at the departing duo and they understood suddenly they walked behind them stealthily to make sure they cross the borders and cause no mischief.
I turned towards my mate and greeted her by her new name hoping that she likes it, "Hello Luna". She looked at me as if I was a crazy person. " What has put you in such a good mood. "Marriage, them leaving, tonight I don't know", I told her. " What about tonight?", she asked suspiciously. "Nothing special just our wedding night", I told her. I smiled at her horrified expression.
