Jane's Pov
My lips dry, my heart completely shattered.
How could I have been so selfish, I felt like a monster, as the hot tears in my eyes rolled down my cheeks, I felt so ashamed of myself.
I didn't know what to tell Marty, all this while I have hated her for clearing up my own sin,it could have been me that day,but here she was carrying my own very sin.
"Am... Am... so...so.. sorry.....I" but before I let out any more words, I felt her arms wrapped around me, I couldn't hold the hot shameful water that came streaming down my face, I let myself cry out and cried even more when I heard Marty cry.
"I.. didn't know, I was so selfish, and...and so stupid,I ... I...am so sorry, I wasn't there when you needed me the most,and I thought you and Armando had something together but all this while my insecurities blindfolded me..." I sobbed at every word I said.
"It's not your fault girlie, am sorry I didn't let you in, you are my best friend and I was supposed to tell you but I didn't know where to start from" she apologized but I didn't agree as I constantly moved my head from right to left.
" It's my fault! It's all my fault" I told her but she held on to me even tighter, telling me it was fine, but it wasn't my fault.
I was the cause of all this and my spirit would hunt me for the rest of my life.
"I should probably go," Marty said as she released me to stand.
"Please don't, st..ay" I said mostly to myself then to her.
"Is there anyone at home?" I was surprised to see her smiling and walking around the house
"No!, Why" I asked .
"Cause...alone time with the girl I have missed would be just fine" she said with a wide smile, she amazed me.
I let out a choking laugh, walking towards her to wrap her in a tight hug, I missed her so much.
"I missed you too," I said as we walked upstairs.
I still didn't forget my midnight extra bites, Marty always complained about it but this time she was quick to grab more from the fridge.
We had a lot to talk about, something that didn't make us cry. I was happy to see her again. I was sad about her condition,but she seems more alive and cheerful.
I didn't even know when I dozed off but the constantly groaning and shifting on my bed made me unable to continue my sleep.
Just when I felt a strong hold on my arms, I woke as I heard a loud groan, my eyes widened.
" Marty!" my eyes wide open.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"My water!" She said pointing on the bed, I could see it wet, did she bed wet or what.
"The baby..." She said faintly.
"The baby?" A little bit confused but from the way she kept hitting me,made me realize she was about to...
"Oh My Baby Jesus!...The baby!" I was now nervous.
I was now extremely nervous. I have never done this before, how to take out the baby from her tommy, what do I do first, I kept moving from one corner of my room to the other.
"Jane!" I heard Marty scream out my name
"Yes... Yes" I sounded like I would faint any given time from now.
"Take me to a hospital," she ordered.
"Oh ..ok, the hos..pital!" Why didn't I think about that?
I didn't care to change my nightwear as I ordered an Uber and thank God he was close by, the minute I was in front of the door , the driver rushed to help me get Marty into the car and we zoomed off to the hospital.
The moment we got to the hospital, the driver was fast to call the nurse.
"Breath Marty, you're gonna be fine" I kept rubbing her back and encouraging her, before the nurses took her in a stretcher and I ran along, beside her, holding her hands to tell her I am not leaving her this time.
The minute the door to the labour room closed,my heart kept pounding, I don't know how many times I closed my eyes to pray but wasn't able to say anything.
I was worried as hell, I couldn't sit, the chairs seemed to be smoking out fire, just then the doctor swung open the door, I rushed to him.
"How's she doctor?, how's Marty?, How's the baby?Is she ok?Talk to me" I said.
"Hahahahaha, which should I answer first?" He asked like he was mocking me
Goddamnit! Just fucking answer any.
"She's doing just fine, much better than I thought, so are her babies" my eyes widened.
"Babies" , oh my God.
"Ahhhhhh!, can I see her now?" I was really excited.
"Yes of course, she's at ward 4, room 1, Congratulations!" He announced and stretched out his hands to collect mine in a firm shake.
"Thanks!" As I turned my back to face him, my legs were too impatient as it carried my body fast.
I was standing in front of ward 4, room 1 and I remembered all she had been through when she was in school and guilt danced around my emotion but I had to shake it off and be happy with Marty.
I pushed open the door to see her laying on the bed, and her babies right next to her.
"Who's the newest mom in town?!!" I ran to her and wrapped her weak body in a hug.
"Me!" She said faintly, she looked a bit worried, her eyes blurry from the tears that found their way to her temples.
"What's wrong Marty?, Did I say something wrong?" I asked
"No! No Jane, you did nothing wrong, I just wanted to say Thank you for everything, especially today, you're my hero" she chuckled.
Really Marty, don't make me cry but the tears in my eyes already made my vision blurry. I immediately wiped them off.
"I should have done that a long time ago, this my way of saying sorry, and this time i'm going nowhere, nowhere Marty '' I leaned to press a quick kiss on her forehead and stood up to see the new cuties.
"Awwn, they are boys,so adorable" I exclaimed
"Yeah, they are and they have the most beautiful Godmother" my eyes wide as I turned to look at her, I totally understood what that meant.
"OMG! It would be an honour" I was pretty excited
"I thought I was their God parent" the male voice behind said, I turned to look at the man. I couldn't help but fall more in love with him.
"They need a Godmother you know" Marty weak voice said jokily
"Yeah yeah! Only if she's pretty and has an Afro hair, then I can't argue" as he leaned in to kiss Marty on her temple
What did he mean by what he just said, was he referring to me? I wanted to say hi but my lips became too heavy to part open.
"I just came to see how my God kids are, it seems they are in safe hands".
"I have an important meeting to attend to, but I'll be back, hope you are ok?" He said to Marty but his eyes burned my skin.
"Yes I am, go on Mr, go do your thing, I will be here with my girlie when you come back to check up on us" I knew what Marty was doing but I didn't look at her.
" Alright then, make sure you take care of yourself and the pretty ones" I wanted to say something but the rapid beating of my heart made my chest hard to compose a word.
I watched him leave and here I was standing like a statue of liberty.
