Mates? It couldn't be.
Could it?
I let go of his shirt, trying to meditate on his unbelievable words. I was a werewolf and he was a demonic lycan. We had nothing in common: he, a cowardly prince and me, a princess turned slave. It couldn't be possible that the Moon Goddess would be that unfair to me. We were on good terms, mostly. Yet my head spun with multiple possibilities, a tiny part of me taking his words as truth, especially the part about losing my soul. My mother and I had made a conversation out of the topic of mates once. Although I had been partially embarrassed and partially impatient to return to a swordfight practice with my brothers, I got a few things from what she had to say. Mates were for life, no matter who it was. On rare occasions, twins could be mates and either had no say about the matter. The Moon Goddess was infallible and it was an abomination to think her able to err.
Lucas did a full body stretch, drawing my attention to his drool-worthy body. With his disguise out of the way, the hairy trail down his chest was a treasure hunt for my eyes. I could smell him, virile and male but I was more than physically aware of him. The hairs on my arms stood in unavoidable awareness of him and suddenly, I couldn't bear the distance between us. I walked back to where he stood, shirtless and his hair damp from the heat of being covered previously by his dirty headgear. The forest must have come in with him because soon, my sinuses were overclouded with the scent of fresh wood and peppermint. His olive skin was hidden by the characteristic hairiness that was likened to lycans but the view was still mouthwatering.
“We....are mates? Is that the best thing you could come up with to save yourself?”
“Save myself?” he parroted, attempting a humourless laugh. “I'm just as surprised as you are. I guessed but I had to be sure.”
I couldn't help trailing after the sweat droplets on his broad chest but he didn't have to know. I was stupidly attracted to a man I was supposed to be loathing with every drop of blood in my veins. He seemed on edge like the walls were caving in on him.
“What was your first clue?” I mocked his intuition. I figured that if I kept him talking, he wouldn't notice how aroused, rather than angry, I really was. I bit down on my lower lip, standing still with my legs tightly jammed. I would touch myself later when he was gone, I reassured my wolf who was going out of her mind in heat.
He cocked a brow at my uneasiness, his hands making fistfuls of his hair. His only clothing was made out of pelt and it hung snugly around his lithe waist. Goddess, whatever was hidden below that pelt might be my death and ironically, my salvation. My skin crawled, the heat wave washed over me and I was suddenly feeling dizzy.
“Miatta? Are you alright? Shit, I shouldn't have come here. You are still in heat and thus, vulnerable to..”
I didn't let him finish his sentence before I lurched myself at him. My collar burned and sizzled into my skin but I didn't care. I wanted him, my wolf wanted him and I would have him because he was my mate after all.
Lucas
I didn't anticipate her attack and so I fell heavily to the ground with her on top of me. Her scent enveloped my senses and every breath I took in was Miatta. The collar should have subdued her and brought her to heel but at that point, the heat wave was in control of her. She choked and spluttered helplessly, fighting the magic of the collar and I could not watch her suffer.
“Miatta,” I called on her and she turned her gaze to my face, snarling in anger. Clouds of desire filled her eyes and her pupils danced with unnatural excitement. Her wolf was almost at the surface, scratching her way back on top. I was flat on my back but I managed to take the key I needed. I had sent the guard away with a hypnotic substance Athena had given to me but it would wear off soon and he would be back. I had to bring her under control soon or she would hurt herself without meaning to. Her hands roamed along my sides and my head swam with naughty thoughts. Miatta wanted me and she wanted me badly, her claws scraping at my pelt as an indication. I wanted her too but not like that. I wanted her sober and aware when I drove into her hot and fast, with every thrust driving her mad with need.
I seized her by the neck and turned the tables on her in haste I didn't know I had in me. My wolf was sad to lose her hands and I was inconspicuously hard under my pelt. “Not now, boy,” I sympathized with my wolf spirit. “Soon, just not right now.”
Mate, it whined, Mine however I was in charge and not him.
Miatta snapped at me, jerking wildly and clutching my ass tightly. Her thighs were spread open for me, inviting me to plunge and conquer, a sweet temptation. I jammed the key into the lock on the collar and it cracked open. I flung the offensive torture device far from us and settled my thighs between her hips. Her hair spilt on the floor like a halo and her lips called me to have a brief taste, then another and another till I was lost in the heat of her embrace.
“Miatta. Miatta!” I yelled this time and she looked up at me with fiery hazel eyes. They were like green balls of fire and I let down my guard in a moment of weakness. I bent my head and captured her soft rosebud lips in a wet, hot kiss. She pulled me in and I took greedily, running my fingers through her long, thick mass of hair. She groaned deep in her throat, arching her breasts in offering. She parted her legs more and raised her butt off the ground, meeting my groin on a dead target. Her nipples poked at me through her filmy dress, hard points that were driving me nuts. I brushed a thumb across them and she sucked in air, digging her nails into my back. The pain brought me back to reality, which meant we were in a cell, grinding against each other on the hard ground.
“I will get you out of here, by the Goddess, I will. I'm sorry, Miatta.” I crawled to where I had disposed of the collar and snapped it back on her neck. The wolf within her mewled out a loud whimper and I almost died of regret.
“I'll be back. I'm sorry, Miatta,” were my last words as I locked her in the cell, a raging erection hurting me underneath my pelt.
