The sunlight entering through the glass windows ruined my sleep. Groaning, I rolled over in my sleep and suddenly, I felt a feminine body beneath me.
Don't be naked. Don't be naked. Please don't be naked.
I cursed when our bare bodies brushed slightly. Scooting away from the person, I hesitantly opened my eyes and when my eyes landed on the face of that woman, all the oxygen got knocked out of my lungs.
I felt my throat dry at her sight, my gaze slowly traveled down her flawless skin, the soft curves of her waist and then her long legs. I saw Evelyn's seductive body lying on my bed in my shirt, a muscle in my heart clenched. That's how I wanted to see her, in my room, wearing my shirt, spending the night in my arms.
"Fuck." I spoke, springing to the sitting position. My voice must have woken her up because the next moment, her eyes opened, and her face flushed because of our bare state.
"I-I…" she tried speaking and rose to a sitting position, clutching the blanket to her chest absent-mindedly as she forgot that she was well covered unlike myself.
An awkward silence fell in the room as both of us analyzed what just happened last night. The pause went on for almost five minutes, during which neither of us looked towards each other.
Looking at her clueless innocent face, my thoughts were replaced by anger, "We can act like nothing happened." I spoke.
Her honey browns widened, "W-What?"
"It was just a meaningless one-night stand." I declared, standing up and wrapping the other sheet around my legs. "Besides, I'm with Savannah now." I lied trying to prove my point to her that it was meaningless, indeed.
Tears gathered in the back of her eyes, "Xavier," she called out my name, "I know I don't have the right to say anything about you and Savannah but-"
"Yes, you don't have any right. Now think again before saying what you are going to say." My tone was hard, so was my facial expressions.
I saw her swallowing before continuing, "We...we are still…." Every part of her sentence was taking more than the usual time as she finally spoke, "We are still legally married."
That shook me to core, I wasn't ready for this situation, yet. Perhaps, my expressions told her that I didn't expect her to bring that up. Masking my emotions, "So you remember?" I chuckled humorlessly as her face flushed at my words and she lowered her gaze to the bed.
"Please Xavier." She said after a pause as her voice broke in the end.
"Don't worry. I'm not planning on stretching this further." I said, turning my face to the other side.
"What do you mean?" Asked Evelyn.
"I said, I'm not planning to stay legally married to you anymore."
I waited for her to say something after I hinted towards our divorce, but she didn't.
I had to say this, I had to burn the only path connecting us. Seeing her in my shirt, in my bed made me realize how much I still long for her, even after everything she did to me. I need to put a full stop on our so-called marriage.
My eyes shifted to her for the umpteenth time. Her face was leaning down and I couldn't see her face because her hair was blocking her view from me.
It looked like she was crying but I might be wrong. After all, why would she cry when she was the only one to ruin everything.
"And yesterday's night was meaningless for me. Please leave my room, I need to get ready."
After that I walked across the room into the bathroom. My hormones and thoughts were in turmoil at that moment, and I needed to calm myself down with a cold shower.
I have to wipe her thoughts out of my mind. She was messing with my mind and if I let her in, she would once again fuck with whatever sanity I have left. She broke me once; she wouldn't hesitate before doing it twice.
You can’t break me Evelyn Williams, never again.
