A few weeks have passed and since then I've gone and spent some time with dad. I felt bad that he'd been on his own for 3 years but found comfort knowing Kayne had stepped up for me. And Kayne was right I was proud and grateful to have friend like him and would have done the same thing if he lost one of his parents and wasn't around.
Kayne had helped dad with the business and took on a big role for him while he was grieving. I still don't think dads finished grieving mom, I mean I see the way he'll look off in to the distance and get this look on his face, I know he's thinking of her.
They were soul mates, i couldn't imagine loosing Nicky. Speaking of, she's been spending time with dad as well. She took him out to lunch the other day and said he was in a really good mood, made her laugh till her tummy hurt, sounds like dad.
She said he also told her that if I ever step outa line she's to go to him immediately and he'll deal with me accordingly. I love that man, he's the best father anyone could ask for. And I love that he's looking out for her, even with me.
Nicky said she didn't care if we had a long engagement but I said I couldn't wait too long, I needed a ring on her finger and her last name to match mine.
I got her a beautiful engagement ring that I was nervous about giving her. I spent alot of time coming up with a design that meant alot to both of us.
The white gold band held two diamonds in it. One green and one blue to remind her of the island water and sky. She burst into tears when I got to one knee and opened the box for her.
I decided to do it the proper way, she deserved it plus I would never hear the end of it from dad if he thought i just did the one proposal.
Nicky doesn't want a huge wedding, just something simple and small, elegant and intimate. We have a small guest list of 28 people, mostly my family and friends. Nicky didn't want to invite anyone, she was OK with it. She said she was gaining family and friends from me and that she was so happy to be starting this new life with me.
I teared up a bit, it was so sweet what she said. We've nearly got everything finalised for it, the wedding will be held at dads house. Nicky fell in love with the backyard there, it's huge and open with lots of trees and beautiful gardens. Dad takes alot of pride in his yard.
Kayne managed to find Nicky and I the perfect property, so he said on the phone this morning. So I'm driving out there now to meet him, I want it to be a surprise to Nicky so I told her to go out and have a look at some dresses and get whatever she wanted.
It only took me an hour to convince her to use my card. "Whats mine is yours, babygirl." I said to her. I mean its the truth, or legally will be once we both sign our marriage certificate.
I pull on to this dirt road and drive down the 1km long drive way. It's covered either side with palm trees and bushes and opens up to an amazing one floor house. Its very islandy and instantly reminds me of my time on the island.
Nicky is gunna love this.
I park the car next to Kayne's and get out, walking up to the front door.
"Drew! Come in." Kayne's voice carries out. I walk inside the door and instantly love what im seeing.
All open spaces, no walls blocking each rooms. Huge square windows line the front and back of the house to let all this light in.
Dark hard wood floors lay underneath my boots, white, fresh walls...
"It's great isn't it?" Kayne asks.
"It really is, how did you manage to find this place?" I ask in awe.
"I have my ways, plus im damn good at my job. So, it's got 5 bedrooms plus a office. There is two bathrooms, one being an ensuite that is huge, you won't have to add on much to it for your idea to change it." Kayne says.
"Awesome, I wanna check it out." I say and Kayne leads me to what will be mine and Nicky's bedroom and bathroom.
"I found a guy who does these creative and amazing designs for peoples homes. I've emailed him with what your looking for and wanting and he's gotten back to me with a price and how long it'll take." Kayne says.
"I don't care about price, how long will it take him?" I ask while walking around the room imagining what it will look like.
"He says he can have it done in a week. Says the main issue is the water proofing and waiting for it to dry before being able to do anything else." Kayne says.
"Good. Lock him in, please kayne." I say.
"Consider it done! Now, this house here... what are we thinking? I mean it's perfect right? The back yard is huge! Plenty of room you and Nicky and the kids you'll have. Theres room to have gardens or build tree houses for the kids." Kayne says.
"Think someone's getting excited about becoming an uncle, maybe?" I say with a smirk.
"Is she pregnant?" He asks.
"No, she's not. Well not yet, she's getting her IUD removed this Friday. We wanna try for a family." I say.
"That's awesome news, bud." He says patting me on the back.
I look around the property a bit more and I really can imagine us here. I can imagine kids running around, Nicky and i chasing them.
"How much are the owners wanting?" I ask kayne.
"They'll consider any offer above 1.2M." He says.
"Offer them 2M, if they want more, up it to 2.5M. I want this property, Kayne." I say looking right at him.
"Done." Kayne says.
Once I get back from seeing Kayne and the property I get home and Nicky still isn't home yet, I text her.
Babygirl: Where are you, babygirl?
I few minutes pass before she replies.
Babygirl: 10 minutes away, Daddy.
I smile as I put my phone down and go to the kitchen. I'm starving and decide to whip up something to eat.
I take my dress shirt off and heat the frying pan up. Grabbing all the ingredients to make an omelette, I start cracking the eggs.
I'm taken back to a memory on the island when I found some bird eggs for the first time. I was so excited I did I little dance, one I'd probably be embarrassed about if Nicky was there.
I took them back to camp and with some of the food items I already had was able to make a omelette.
I'm bought back to the now by the sound of Nicky's return.
"Hey daddy. How was your time with kayne?" She asks and gives me a kiss.
I told her I was meeting up with him to just hang out.
"Yeah was good, I love hanging out with him again." I say flipping the omelette.
"Aww, I'm glad. Ok, so guess what?" She says excitedly.
"What?" I say, matching her engery.
"I found the perfect dress, I found the one." She says.
"Oh that's great, babygirl. I can't wait to see it on you." I say.
"I can't wait to see your reaction too." She says.
"Did you happen to buy any sexy lingerie to go under it, perhaps?" I ask, smirking.
"You'll have to wait and see." She says.
I plate us both a little omelette each and we eat and talk about our day and what else we did, except I obviously don't tell her about the house.
I want to have it ready to go by the time we get back from our honey moon.
It's just after dinner now and we're hopping into bed when my cell phone rings.
