Brenda looked at him skeptically then said “can we go to your apartment?” she asked in a calm romantic manner, knowing how this affected Michael before, and he never got to resist her when she spoke like this. She suddenly felt the urge to have sex with him and hoped that he would jump at the offer, her gaze fixed on Michael who peered back at her wondering if he heard her correctly just now…
“No, Brenda, I don’t.” Michael said bluntly after peering at her for a while, refusing her invitation because he knew what going to his apartment meant and he could see how startled she was by his reply.
“Why? Are you seeing someone?” Brenda asked angrily as she knew that she was being rejected, she glared at him getting even more furious at his calmness. She has never been turned down by a guy after she was dumped by the man she loved especially not by someone who has tasted her.
“No, am not seeing anyone.” He replied calmly, loving the way she was feeling right now. “Why do you ask?” he asked, aware of the anger building up in her. In the past week’s they have been together, he had known a few things about her and getting angry when you don't do what she wants has been one of them.
“Then why? Don’t you want to have sex with me?” she asked still glaring at him.
“Yes, I want this to stop, you see I have a lot on my plate right now, my final exams are coming up, projects too, and graduation is around the corner, so I just need to focus.” Michael explained ignoring her furious expression.
He did not want to go down that road with her again, as he is not sure now why she suddenly want to have sex with him, besides the way she was holding hands earlier with her guy whom she out rightly denied has raised some questions in his head about her, he also do not know her that well so it is time to end this madness, whatever it is.
“It has been nice spending time with you Brenda, I enjoyed every moment with you so thank you for that and do have a nice life.” With this Michael stood up, gently took her hand in his hand while Brenda watched in surprise, her pupils enlarging as she wondered what he was up to after a speech like that. Michael kissed her hand tenderly, peering into her eye, he let go of her hand again, smiling from the corner of his lips as he left his chair and started walking out of the café.
Outside the cafe, Michael heaved a sigh of relief. He never thought he would be able to do that when he sees her again, actually, when he saw her, he wanted to disappear because he didn't know how to face her especially after seeing her with that guy.
“Wow, it was not a big deal after all, George was right.” He said out loud as smiles spread across his lips. He had imagined this scenario a couple of times wondering what he was going to do if he saw Brenda again and was scared of the outcome even though he tried to be brave in front of George whenever he asked if he was alright now.
He truly enjoyed her company and had hoped that she would come back somehow, he had thought that even if they would part ways, it shouldn't be like this, maybe after graduation then they would decide whether to go their separate ways or remain friends but never the less, all things happen for a reason, so he believes. He recalled her question “can we go to your apartment? Well, don’t you miss me? ” She had asked.
“Ewe, the nerve of Brenda to say those words to me after I saw how she was holding hands with that guy, whatever his name is, anyways, it's finally over.” He thought, feeling good that he had met her like this today, now he is finally going to focus his attention on his studies, at least he has nothing to lose, he said inwardly. He lifted his hand to stop a taxi to take him home especially now that he felt that his head and mind are as clear as a glass.
Brenda sat there speechless, Michael suddenly reminded her of her first love who had hurt her, only, this time it's a little different, she was the one who got tired of him first and the only reason she wanted to be back with him is because he did not cling to her like the other guys she had before.
“Why am l getting all worked up?” she asked inwardly, trying to get a hold of her emotions here especially since she was in a public place, after all she can have as much guys as she wanted, the week’s she hadn't spent with Michael, she have been with Josh, the guy she came to the café with, who had to leave because of an emergency.
She had denied being on a date with Josh when Michael asked because she wanted to see how Michael had been without her and obviously, he was doing fine without her, well whatever… She thought as she got up and went over to the counter to make some take home order, hoping to forget what had happened here today.
“Here is your order miss,” one of the girls working in the café said handing Brenda her order after she had paid for it, drawing her out of her thoughts as what happened replayed in her thoughts.
Brenda stretched forth her hand to take the order but because her thoughts were still on Michael she mistaken let her order go, making it spatter around the place and on her clothes too. She whined immediately, feeling frustrated about her situation as she knew that it was because her thoughts were on Michael that was why she spilled her order. “I will get back at you for this, Michael” Brenda said inwardly, her lips raise in scorn while she mumbled curses now at Michael as she wondered how she was going to go home in her messed up clothes.
