“Is that a body on the road?” Elena muttered, enough for her husband Dario to hear him, her pupils enlarged too as she peered at the body to make sure that was what she saw.
Dario quickly turned to the direction of where her gaze was as he heard her and saw that she was right, he quickly pulled over and stepped out of the car together with his wife Elena who was almost in tears as she saw that it had been an accident when her gaze went to the car that was crashed ahead of the body.
They both rush over to where the body was lying to see that it was a woman, “Oh no, Dario, is she still alive?” Elena asked her husband, unconsciously lifting her hand to cover her mouth.
Dario quickly bent over to see if she is still alive immediately after his wife asked the question, hoping that she was. “She is alive, Elena.” Dario told his wife, lifting his gaze at her and gesturing for her to come closer since she was a few inches away from them. She moved closer to them and bent down immediately next to Dario.
“Go on dear, you need to help me pull her up,” Dario said, gesturing to his wife for help. She nodded immediately and placed her near trembling hands on the woman’s body, they both lifted her up and carried her to their car.
“Hurry dear, we need to get her to a hospital.” Elena told her husband, shaking her head a little in a frantic manner as soon as she saw Dario turn towards the direction of the accident scene again instead of entering the car.
“No, hold on darling, let me check her car for a possible identity, we are going to need it.” Dario said to Elena, who nodded and sat down in the car while her husband crossed over again to where the car had crashed. She hoped that he found something to identify the woman with and hoped that it did not take too long since they have to bring the woman to a hospital as quickly as possible, she turned her gaze on the woman, who was lying in the back seat of the car and noticed that the accident have not been long since it happened.
“The car was totally bashed from the crash,” Dario thought as he got to it, and felt that it was a miracle for someone to come out of it, still breathing, he quickly searched the bashed car but carefully in order not to get himself injured and found a hand bag under the front sit on the passenger's side. He took it out and ran back to where his car was. He quickly handed the handbag to his wife who looked through it while he drove off.
Elena scrambled through the bag and brought out a passport from it, she flipped the passport open immediately to check for her name. “Her name is Camilla… Camilla Gonzalo.” She said to Dario who looked at her momentarily and peaked at the mirror in front of the car to see the lady Camilla who is still lying unconscious, then turned his eyes back on the road, wondering how she came to be in such an accident, the road was alright and had been used for so long and such accident have been recorded so far.
“It looks like she was on her way to the airport.” Elena said when Dario said nothing to her in response after she told him the lady’s name, glancing back at Camilla at the back seat of the car, “I wonder what must have happened for her to be in such an accident, the weather was clear and so was the road, there was nothing to indicate the reason for her accident too,” she muttered again more to herself but Dario heard her and short her a glance because like her, he wondered the same thing too.
They drove into a nearby hospital where the emergency unit hurriedly carried her into the hospital. Once the couple had carried out some documentation needed, Dario and Elena sat down at the lobby.
That's when Elena brought out Camilla’s cell phone, fortunately for her the cell phone is still intact and was accessible, so she dialed the last person Camilla had called in her dialed list in the cell phone and whom she had seen that had given her some missed calls as well.
“Hello Camilla.” Came the deep male voice that answered, over the phone.
“Hello, this is Elena on the line, are you Miguel?” She asked just to make sure because that was the name that was used to save the number on the phone, then paused and turned at her gaze at her husband, Dario who gestured for her to go on.
“Yes, this is Miguel speaking and why do you have Camilla’s phone with you… where is Camilla?” Miguel asked, sounding very authoritative because he was very worried already especially since Camilla the not take his calls after he had called her a couple of times.
“If I may ask, are you related to Camilla?” Elena asked again still looking at her husband who nodded in approval to her question.
“Yes, I am her husband.” Miguel answered without thinking, all he wanted to know is the whereabouts of Camilla, and so if saying he is her husband would get her to speak so be it, besides he would have long ago been Camilla’s husband if only she had given her consent and agreed to marry him.
“Where is she?” Miguel asked again impatiently this time because he has been expecting her to return his call after she did not take his call before.
“Well sir, your wife had an accident...” Elena was yet to finish her statement when she was interrupted by Miguel’s surprising question.
“What! An accident… where and how?” Miguel asked simultaneously without waiting for Elena to answer any of the questions asked. “Where is she, I mean… how is she… is she alright?” he asked again unable to control his emotions, his heart expanding with fear of what could have happened to Camilla.
He had loved Camilla so much that he wouldn't bear the thought of losing her, he had never been in love with any woman before, although he had numerous women in the past but none of them had made him ever want to get married and settle down like Camilla did.
“Calm down sir, she is still alive, we brought her to a nearby hospital and we are yet to get information about her condition from the doctors attending to her.” Elena said.
“Which hospital is she in?” Miguel asked, sounding more agitated this time, after he heard that she was still alive and that they were waiting for update about her condition.
“Well I will text you the name and address of the hospital immediately.” Elena told Miguel.
“Okay please do, I will catch the next available flight there, please stay with her till I get there.” Miguel pleaded, and then hung up.
Elena heaved a sigh of relief as she was able to contact a relative of Camilla, she looked at her husband “Do you think she will be okay honey?” She asked Dario who nodded and said “I hope so, I believe so darling, let’s just wait for the doctor's.” Immediately after his statement one of the doctors attending to Camilla came out. Dario and Elena stood up almost immediately.
“How is she?” Dario asked the doctor with Elena standing beside her husband, her hands clapped tightly together in front of her, her pupils enlarged too as she peered at the doctor in curiosity to her husband's question.
“Well the good news is that she is alive and we are still observing her vital organs which seemed intact at the moment but she is yet to regain consciousness and we hope she regains consciousness soon, if I may ask, how are you related to the patient?” The doctor asked after his brief explanation.
“Well we are not related to her doctor, we saw her lying on the road where she supposedly had an accident and rushed her here, but we have contacted her husband and he is on his way here.” Dario explained to the doctor. “Can we see the patient?” Dario asked the doctor immediately after his explanation.
“No, I am afraid not, you see she is still under observation, her accident is a fatal one, and she is lucky to have survived.” The doctor explained and excused himself afterwards.
Dario and Elena gazed at each other, hoping that all will be alright with Camilla after the effort the put in bringing her to a hospital. They sat down again at the lobby’s chair, waiting for Miguel’s arrival.
