Evelyn, Rose’s daughter, blasted me away. To my surprise, the impact wasn’t as destructive as I expected—it just sent me sprawling backward. Evelyn scoffed and turned away, acting like she had already won.
Cocky little thing.

My system chimed in with an explanation.
Curse magic, huh? No wonder she was so confident.
I got to my feet, laughing like a maniac. I couldn’t help it. Whenever I’m about to shatter someone’s pride and drag them down from their high horse, this villainous side of me kicks in. Even if the person is just a cocky demon brat!
All eyes turned to me, but Evelyn’s reaction was the best part—a mix of shock and horror. A memory worth keeping. If I had a phone, I’d have taken a picture.
"H-how are you still alive?" she stammered, her hands trembling with shock.
That just made me laugh even harder. I must’ve looked like a demon among insects.
"Your first mistake was underestimating me, brat!" I said with a smug grin.
I was hella confident.
"Brat? Brat?" Evelyn snapped, releasing a wave of sinister aura. The pressure made it hard to breathe. A violent wind flared around her, whipping her crimson hair into a storm. Then, she rose into the air, levitating above the arena ground.
"By the will of the damned and the whispers of the abyss, I brand thee with despair. Let your bones crumble, your soul wither, and your very existence be erased—Eclipse of the Forsaken!"
She chanted, and a massive black sigil erupted from the ground beside me. It wailed, its enormous fanged maw gaping wide, ready to swallow me whole. What kind of a child is capable of such powerful spells? She’s Rose’s daughter, no kidding! Like mother like daughter. Both freaks!
[System Initializing...]
[Divine Protection Barrier activated.]
A thick, invisible barrier formed in front of me. When the sigil lunged, it failed—the barrier repelled it like an electric fence, shocking it every time it got close.
The spell was clearly draining Evelyn. She panted midair, but the stubborn brat refused to give up—until her body gave out. She fell from up there and collapsed to the ground, blood trickling from her nose.
Rose rushed into the arena, healing her as the sigil vanished back into the earth.
"I won’t accept this... I can’t lose to a human!" Evelyn muttered.
Even in bad shape, she was still as stubborn as ever. What a brat.
"Sorry, kiddo, but curse magic doesn’t work on me." I said casually, trying to sound modest.
I knew exactly how infuriating that would be for her.
And I was right.
She clenched her fists despite lying exhausted on the ground, her crimson eyes filled with murderous intent. "Next time, I’ll beat you with my own fists, human! I won’t lose to you!"
"Fists?" I scoffed. "You mean those little fingers of yours?"
She groaned and tried to stand, probably to tear me apart with her teeth. But Rose scooped her up and carried her off to rest.
By the time Rose returned, the whole arena had turned into chaos. Demons were pushing each other, eager to challenge me—but none of them had the balls to step forward.
So, I won every match by default.
And for my prize? A demon blade, said to conjure fire. Since I wasn’t much of a swordsman, I just shoved it into my pocket dimension.
I spent the rest of the day in the demon village. Surprisingly, I was getting used to the miasma—it didn’t affect me as much anymore.
That evening, every demon in the village gathered around a massive fire.
Rose stood. "Brothers and sisters, we’ve come a long way—we’ve survived long enough. But now, it’s time for us to live, not just survive! The strong rule over the weak in this world! Draegonoth Umbraflame betrayed us, tricking us into believing our clans could coexist in peace, all while plotting his own schemes. But that ends now. We will reclaim our place as rulers of the demon realm. We will rise to power once again!"
The demons roared in approval.
I stole a glance at Rose’s daughter. Despite her tough exterior, she looked adorable curled up near the fire, snoring peacefully.
Later, I learned more about the demons’ divided clans.
There were two ruling bloodlines: the Maledictus Clan—Rose’s people—and the Infernal Bloodline, ruled by the demon lord.
The Maledictus clan specialized in curse magic. The Infernal Bloodline? Hellfire magic and brute strength. Their warriors had flaming horns, molten veins, and bodies so hot that hand-to-hand combat with them was suicide.
These two clans had been at war for centuries and every time, the Maledictus won every battle, thanks to their curse magic.
That’s when Draegonoth proposed a peace treaty—sealed with a marriage. He married Rose, the leader of the Maledictus clan, and from that union, Evelyn was born.
But Rose later discovered the truth—Draegonoth Umbraflame never intended peace. He married Rose so he could study their curse magic and find a way to counter it, and when he was ready, he massacred half of Rose’s people. The few survivors, including Rose and Evelyn, were forced to flee.
Ever since then, the Maledictus clan had lost their advantage, forced into hiding.
No wonder Rose hates the demon lord.
After her speech, the village prepared for war—blades sharpened, weapons readied, every demon gearing up for battle.
I got ready too.
I still had to save the Priestess, and time was running out. In two days, during the Crimson Full Moon, the demon lord planned to sacrifice her to gain enough power to shatter the barrier between the demon realm and the human world.
He wanted to rule over humans too.
