Third POV.
Josiah frowned as he felt as if he would have a headache in a few moments to come. He looked at Elana then shifted his gaze to Leila and wondered why they could not want to let him be. He had come to help them with a good heart as a way to repay a favor he owed but he never expected that the two sisters were so hard to crack. Not to mate Marcus who had been staring at him since Goddess knew.
Everyone had stayed silent as they waited to know the answer since they were curious. Even Amanda, Eliud and Mike who had thought that they knew so much had to admit that there was some information they were lacking.
Although they wanted to say that maybe Josiah knew the girls' secret just like how they knew who they were, they knew that was impossible since no one knew the girls' powers apart from a few even the rogues, their leader and their backers were not quite sure which gift Leila held unlike the old man standing in front of them.
"Old man, why aren't you responding to the question asked by my mate?" Marcus asked sarcastically since to him, there was no way Josiah had the answer to that.
Josiah whose eyes had been on Elana shifted his gaze when he heard Marcus's sarcastic question.
"Whether or not I would be able to answer is none of your business," Josiah said coldly as he glared at Marcus.
Hearing Josiah's cold words instead of being humble even at such a time, they all frowned as they found it hard to trust him anymore.
"Why do you need to be arrogant even at this time? Can you be humble if you can't answer the question since you know that you are suspicious or you don't want to answer or better keep quiet?" the old king asked as he wasn't pleased at all.
He knew for a fact that if something happened to Leila because he trusted Josiah blindly, his son would never forgive him. Not only that but he knew that he could keep everyone's life in danger. Looking at what was happening, he wished that he could turn time back to the moment Josiah showed up in the palace.
"Couldn't he just keep his mouth shut instead of opening it and talking just rubbish?" Josiah asked, displeased.
"Don't you dare. The fact that you are not part of the council yet you are here and we are giving you respect is enough. If you can't answer my question then you better get out of here," Elana shouted as she stared at Josiah coldly.
When Josiah heard Elana's cold words he could tell that she was mad and she could explode at any time.
"Is it a must for you to know? Isn't it enough that I am willing to help you guys to save our kind?" he asked as he looked at Elana with curious eyes.
"Don't give us that shit old man Josiah 'cause we both know that we are not of the same kind!" Leila said in a displeased tone.
Nodding his head hastily, Josiah said, "Yes, yes yes. I forgot that you are a god my bad."
"Again," the family of three said in unison, making the others look at them in curiosity.
"Whether or not we are gods doesn't concern you so much since you also refused to tell us who you really are but I kind of think that that isn't fair at all," Leila said as she pouted at the last sentence making Aiden chuckle as he patted her head as if she was a little kid or pet.
"Yeah! How could you know our identities while we don't know yours? But anyway, that would be my next question. Now I think that you don't want to piss me off. Since you know that we are gods then I am sure you know what my gifts are sooo..." Elana said as dragged the last words in a singing tone.
Josiah's face was already sweat as he was thinking of an excuse to say but he couldn't come up with anything to say. He tried to crook up stories to say but the moment he was about to speak, he would realise how it had a lot of loopholes making him know how stupid he would sound. He knew that he had to come up with something before the gods before him got so angry and the fact that he was among the elders of the council and the royal family didn't help at all cause it meant that he would either end up in either of their hands if not of the gods.
"Would you believe me if I say?" he asked after some minutes of silence which was suffocating.
"It depends on how it would sound," Leila said.
"Whether it has loopholes," Elana added.
"Whether it is believable," Marcus chipped in.
After getting the various answers Josiah didn't know whether to be resentful that they were special unlike every creature in the world or be pleased.
"When I was little, I don't know whether my parents abandoned me or they died since I was found on the road. The only thing I had other than the clothes I was clothed with, there was also a book in the basket beside me. The ones who took me in never intended to hide it since they had tried to read it but they couldn't understand it since it was in a foreign language but on the other hand, even though I was a kid, I could read the writings. Even though I couldn't understand what the words meant, as time passed and the last war happened, I started to put puzzles together. The book included your family's background and everyone's gifts. That's how I know everything happened," Josiah explained.
They were all quiet as they wondered whether to believe it or not. Even though they tried their best to find loopholes, they couldn't find anything making them frown.
At the same time, Leila had already closed her after listening to Josiah's explanations. She frowned from time to time as she replayed Josiah’s expression as he said that, and as she tried to analyze his words.
"I believe him."
