When I opened my eyes, I saw the world differently. Everything felt more real. The colors filled the room like a painting made by nature. The sounds felt distant and near at the same time. I feel like my memories were solid like steel, sure that they would never disappear from my mind.
Obsidian, moving under the cover of the bed I had been laid on after being carried to the infirmary, dragged me back to reality.
Having sensed movement, the little dragon popped its head out of the covers like a cat and started whimpering to express his worry. His eyes watered, creating quite a sad and cute image.
" Don't worry, it's okay, I'm fine now," I said while petting the dragon, which seemed to relax when feeling my touch, simply basking in the cuddles while laying on my chest, curled up like a ball.
Taking a look at the message I wasn't able to read after coming out of my focused state, I realized what had happened, and I wondered just for how long I had been reading those books for that big of an upgrade to my skills.
My sense warned me of someone approaching the room I was in, so I stored Ob inside the Mana pool, annoyed that the cuddles stopped but understanding enough to not come out of anger.
Straightening my back, I pushed my back against the wall to take a good look at what was around me, it would have looked like a normal infirmary had it not been for the medical machines that looked straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Removing my covers, I got up from the bed just in time for the person to open the door and stare at me.
"Tell me the truth doc, am I dying?" I told Ororo after she opened the door, making sure I made the best dying soldier I could.
She froze when she saw me standing, the air went down some degrees, my mouth became dry, lightning began appearing on her hair and eyes, my shoulders feeling heavier.
" Adrian Rivera, you will be laying down until I say so, do I make myself clear?"
'I don't think questions should be asked like that.'
Ignoring my mental note, I used everything I had to jump back under the covers of the bed, feeling like a kid who had just seen his first horror movie.
" Good, " she said, returning to her natural self. Then, she proceeded to pinch my ear and pull towards me.
"... You know that would have more effect if I was able to feel pain," I told her while she continued pulling.
'THE FUCK YOU MEAN -5HP? How strong is she?'
Seeing my blank face at her attempt of physical punishment, she let go while sighing, her hand rubbing her eyes while another person came inside the room.
" Hi Rogue," I said while waving my hand at her, having to move forward to look at her, my eyes catching on the small smidge of ruined makeup she had tried to cover up.
If Ororo had been a mother both worried and angry, Rogue looked like the wife who had just seen their husband come back from war, straight up jumping for the hug and pinching me into a bear hug I was quite sure I wouldn't be able to escape.
I look at Ororo, at Rogue, and finally back to Ororo.
" Why are you all treating me like I almost died?"
" Because we weren't sure if you did."
" What?" I am quite sure I look like the Pikachu meme at this moment.
You remained in the library for 13 hours. No one noticed your absence because of coincidences. Kurt fell asleep as soon as he came back to his room. People were watching the movie, and dinner took longer than usual. When we noticed your absence, we found you in the library, books stacked all around you, blood coming out of your nose. We tried calling for you, but you seemed unable to hear us."
" I had to slap you without gloves," Rogue said after wiping a tear from her left eye and letting me finally go.
" Yes, I remember that part, worst bitch slap of my life, I think I was able to taste ideas for a second."
My attempt at comedy failed, their worry still present.
" That is not all, am I right?"
"No, after you fainted we carried you to the infirmary to make sure you were alright, you went without sleep and food for 13 hours, without moving too from what we saw from the cameras, so we tried to check your vitals, it didn't go as we expected."
'If damage doesn't show on my body, then they wouldn't have been able to push any needle inside of me.'
" We tried checking your pulse but we felt nothing, you were breathing but there was no pulse," Rogue said, her hand over mine while she sat on the bed near me.
Seeing her behaviour, I looked her up on the relationship tap, and saw her at 99 Friends, a point away from Best friend, even Kitty and Kurt were only at around 70, most of the other people in the mansion were in the 10s or 20s.
" Well, as you all can see, I am fine now, it's just my powers being my powers, nothing more," I said, then proceeded to get up from my bed, feeling like the ill children in the situation was making me feel sick.
" What did I-" Ororo tried to retort for not following her instructions, but I interrupted her.
"I feel fine, I guess the overprotective mother act works with others but please don't do it with me."
For the first time since they had met me, they saw me annoyed, the annoyed that would lead to rage, not the kind that would be irritated by a bad joke or bad food.
" Adrian, we just want you to feel okay." Rogue tried to calm the situation.
Seeing her attempt I took a big breath, feeling the disgust at their pity for me was away from my system.
" Listen, I am fine. I was just tired; whatever happened won't happen again. Stop looking at me like I am ill or weak."
The last word came out faster than I could register it, but after saying it, I didn't feel like staying any longer with them, so I went outside the room, my thoughts organized by my powers but still feeling like a storm ready to blow on the first person I meet.
'I am starting to hate my decisions.'
