I return to Jasmine and Nathan, aware of Evelyn who is probably smiling at them behind me.
It's almost like my senses begin to come back and I realize what I have done. I just made a stupid deal that could cost me my life and freedom. I can't believe that I can be this gullible.
As I take a sip out of my champagne, I recall the last conversation I had with Evelyn.
"To make things fair, I'll find a way for you all to spend the night here and both of you can have a room to yourself."
I have no idea why she is helping me and I am certainly freaking out a little. I just made a deal with a goddess, a deal that involves giving up my freedom if I lose? It's crazy but I think that she cast a spell on me or something.
"Hey, are you alright. You look pale." Jasmine comes to my side and I smile at her when I see her worried glance.
"I'm just tired of waiting for the cake." I laugh nervously and point to the pink cake on the table far in the corner.
This woman really loves pink and she said she is how old again? Oh, very old.
"That makes two of us."
Jasmine doesn't notice that I am squirming. Seriously, I was doing fine a few minutes ago.
I can't concentrate throughout the party, even after it's over and just like Evelyn said, she found a way to convince Nathan to stay.
And a way to put us in the same room.
I'm starting to regret this.
"If you aren't comfortable, I can always find another room." Nathan says behind me and I come back to reality.
"What? No, that's okay. I'm okay."
"You've been acting strangely since you came out of the restroom." He tilts his head when I look at him.
I don't tell him that I didn't go to the restroom at all.
"Isabella are you sure that you're alright."
I exhale and nod.
"Yeah, I'm just feeling a bit hot that's all."
The feeling of his eyes on me, never wavering, makes me squirm and blush at the same time. It's very intense for me to handle right now.
"Hot?" His voice is husky and low, making me nod meekly as I shuffle my feet. "Then I'll go run a bath for you."
"I'd like a shower instead." Don't look at him, don't look!
"Let me see what I can do." His footsteps fade away until I hear the door of the bathroom open and close.
My shoulder sags in relief when he's gone. Why the hell did I make that deal. What is wrong with me.
Yes, I am feeling hot but that's because I can't think of a way to seduce Nathan. Who knows, maybe he knows what I am thinking or what happened earlier...
No! He told me that he won't read my mind again or am I mixing things up? This is so confusing!
I am not able to gather my wits fast enough. I slowly sit on the bed as he walks out of the bathroom.
His stare is more intense that it was before. I can't take it anymore. I gather the extra clothes Jasmine brought with her and rush into the bathroom. Turns out that Jasmine have a great amount of possibilities in her head since she managed to remember about extra clothes and stuffs.
My shower doesn't take long and when I am out of the bathroom, the room is empty.
This isn't good. Is it possible that Evelyn came in here and persuaded him again to go out? That woman! I knew that she wasn't playing fair from the start.
I'll just have to find him myself. The thought of him laying with in her room with her is heart crushing.
When I open the door, he is standing with his hands like he is about to knock.
"Sorry, I went to get some food. I thought you might be hungry since you didn't eat anything in the party."
I actually don't want to eat till I leave this place. I don't know if the food might be laced with something that can only affect me. I certainly don't trust that woman.
"How long have you known her?" I ask and he hums, tilting his head a little to my direction as he drops the food on the bed.
"A long time now, a really long time." He sighs and I squint at him. Is there something hidden in his words, something that I should know?
Dammit.
I should be concentrating on my task and not silly questions or else I will be a slave to that woman for all eternity.
"Are you okay? You're looking pale, a little more than before." He tells me and I tighten my grip on my towel. It's now that I realize that I forgot to put on my clothes. They are still in the bathroom.
I just came to the realization that I was considering going out like this a few minutes ago.
"Hey." I feel his touch on my face and I blink. He is standing right in front of me.
My face turns red and I shriek and shift back. I feel the towel slipping from my body slowly.
Not again! Not again, dammit!
Before it can unknot, he is closer to me, holding it to my chest for me and my face gains more colour than it has.
"What a-are you d-doing?" I squeal, mortified.
"You're having your heat, Isabella."
My eyes widen. "What?"
"You're in heat." He shifts closer and I take a big step backwards.
"That's impossible. She-wolves hardly get their heat anymore, it's extremely rare. The last p-person who had it was my Aunt Minerva."
He grabs my waist and I push on his chest. This is what I wanted so why am I resisting?
"Nathan, you're not yourself right now. Please let go of me and we'll talk when you're ten feet away."
His eyes darken as he pulls my closer and rubs his nose on my skin. "I smell something sweet on you."
"Cut it out, Nathan!"
