Charles and I had a moment between us when we were only staring at each other. It might have lasted a little longer because we were both drunk and didn’t realize when to stop. But whatever it may have looked like, to me, it was a moment that I would cherish all my life.
Some kind of a different vibe that I had never felt with anyone else before which left me wanting more of him in our friendship and gave me a feeling of inner peace instead of giving me butterflies in my stomach was very confusing. Had he also felt the same way, then we would have taken our bond to a new level.
But I had no idea of how he felt for me. Did he take me as a friend or was he interested in me in the same manner that I was into him was the question constantly running in my mind since the day that I moved in with him. My fantasies can definitely not interfere and disturb my real life, so I kept my distance from him as I understood that he deserved a much better girl.
While he came somewhat closer to me as he moved himself to the corner of the couch, the fragrance that his aura carried automatically closed my eyes as I was breathing it in. It must have been an expensive perfume, is all I could know. The fragrance of the perfume which he used mixed with his body fragrance had always been alluring, but today it got me going for real.
“Olive, how would you describe me?” He asked after a couple of minutes of the awkward silence passed as he rubbed his forehead on top of the eyebrow one side.
“You are Mr. Perfect, Mr. Lozano!” I complimented him with a genuine heart, of course without letting him know how I felt for him.
“Do you like that about me?” He put me on the spot.
“I lo-” I stopped in between because the word that I was going to use could have been considered inappropriate. Immediately replacing it with a simpler one, I answered, “I like that a lot.”
As he bent a little forward to get closer to me, I couldn’t stop my eyes from wandering all around the hall. It looked as if he was testing to see how I would react after getting to know that he loved someone. He made me feel so uncomfortable the way he looked at me, I didn’t know how to react to anything that he was doing or asking.
“You didn’t answer my question,” I stated while looking everywhere else in the room.
“I’m sorry. What was your question?”
“The girl issue,” I reminded him, and then I repeated the question I had asked him.
“Yes, I have started loving someone. But no more questions now. You will know it when the time is right,” he said.
That had broken my heart so badly that it would have been impossible to find all the pieces of it. But, thankfully, I still had time to move out of his place. Now that he had told me about loving someone, I thought of letting him know that I would be moving out of his house soon. I said, “Charles, thank you for sheltering me for such a long time."
And I also mentioned that I would be moving out of his house that week, but I was left thinking if I did it right. That was because after I told him that, his smiling face dropped. Nobody would want to depress someone that they feel very strongly for, but I also couldn’t continue taking advantage of the situation that he had put out for me.
Now that he was in love with someone, I had to give him his space. No female likes her man to be around some other girl, and the scenario with us was much different and much more. We would not only share one roof, but we would also do almost everything together. If only we had gotten physical with each other, we would be living as a married couple.
The best thing was that we never fought. We did whatever we wanted without any sort of interference from one another. It was the best kind of a bond that we shared. Had he also loved me, it would have been considered the best relationship that many of the people out there want to have. They do not want any invasion in their private space, no drama, and no fighting. In fact, disapprovals between us were also handled very differently.
“You are going nowhere,” he stated.
I couldn’t understand why he didn’t want me to move out of his house. That much I was well aware of that he didn’t feel lonely in my company, but now he was in love with another woman. She wouldn’t have liked to see a random chick staying with her boyfriend, and if things went well between them, then maybe her husband, I thought.
It was not only getting difficult for me to move out from Charles’s mansion, it was getting impossible. It looked as if he didn’t want me to leave at all from there. But I was not understanding if he had thought this through. Had I continued to stay with him, wouldn’t it have gotten weird for him to entertain his lover in that very house in front of me?
But I didn’t want to tell him that directly. Instead, I wanted him to realize on his own why it got more important for me to move then. Besides, he was helping me temporarily. So, I asked, “Why don’t you want me to leave?”
I threw a bunch of questions one after the other comprising of all the doubts that I had in mind, so that he could link all of them and understand it by himself.
I asked, “What will your lover think of me?” “Will she like it?” “Won’t she be staying here with you?” “Will she be comfortable with another chick living with you?”
